Daredevil leaned more on its overall story arc, while JJ leans almost exclusively on the personal interactions of the characters. It's less about seeing what's going to happen next, and more about seeing how the characters grow and interact with each other. Which I'm not saying is better or worse, but I think it's a deliberate stylistic choice that unfortunately let the overall story suffer.
It also doesn't help that the characters in JJ are less likable. Again, entirely by design I think, but in DD everyone to some degree, even Fisk, was someone you were rooting for while in JJ everyone's kind of a shithead and they're all trying to take advantage of each other (JJ has a huge blanket theme of abuse and control)

The former is made explicitly clear, because of the whole Reva subplot. And since that resulted in Kilgrave getting his hands on a USB stick with a bunch of other experiments on it (in the show's chronology, long before Jessica ever runs into Simpson) it's not a huge stretch to presume that the latter is also true. Sure, Kilgrave doesn't mention it, but he'd have no reason to (and had every reason to assume Simpson jumped off the roof.) Simpson doesn't mention it, but he might not know the connection, and he's certainly not very honest with everyone else. So there's no reason to rule out the possibility that it's a plot point they'll revisit next season.
Or, as I said in my first post, it could be completely coincidental. I'm not saying that it isn't. Just that there's room to explain the coincidence if they decide to do that.
