Not liking the attempts over the last 10 years to turn WW into a "warrior", it completely flies in the face of what she has been for most of her existence

The images of her brandishing a sword are absolutely disgusting

>on /co/
What's your angle, pal? What are you up to?
>>
>>78002334
Not even a Wonder Woman fan, just don't like that the character has been eradicated and replaced by something more generic

I get why they've done it, he's been pushed hard since nu52 and they wanted a character than was easier to write and understand
>>
>>78002150
Shitt uniform.
>>
>>78002150
So in your opinion, what should she be

I don't see anything wrong with her carrying a sword

I sorta like her deco and uniform as of late.

the only thing i'd do different is have her be barefoot.
>>
>>78002712
Which is what they're doing now.

So OP what should she be? Looking at her without the bondage roots, she just seems like a Superman that can't fly but will kill.
>>

>amazon trained for war
That's a modern thing or at least her embracing it is
>>
>>78002150
>it completely flies in the face of what she has been for most of her existence
A feminst icon?
Batman's or Superman's cocksleeeve depending on who is more popular?
A magical golem?

This is what she is to people who don't read her comics but read other DC comics and watch DC cartoons.

>>78002712
>Less violent
>less uptight
Agreed
>no-kill rule
Disagree. She should not be opposed to killing as a very last resort. You can't reason with some monsters.
>>
Nobody knows about Wonder Woman's villains or character, so let's just wipe the slate clean, go back to basics with Greek mythology and give her a definite character

again
for like the eighth time
>>
>Wonder Woman was supposed to be the story of a stranger in a strange land learning that they aren't so bad
>About her falling in love with both men and the world of men
>About her seeing how men and women co-exist and treat each other well despite their differences and realizing that her society has stopped in time and need to move forward from their preconceptions

In the last 10 years she:
>Imposes her way on a strange land
>Every man is a dick
>Every woman is a dindu nuffin' who needs to be shown that they too can do what men do

Only once was she put on her place.
>>
>>78002823
>go back to basics with Greek mythology
but that's wrong

They did just that in 2011 and it was a good read, but it wasn't exactly Wonder Woman.
>>
>>78002883
That's what all the idiot writers think to do
>>
>>78002887
That's a "special" costume and scenario
>>
>>78002924
Well, yes. She was actually the Goddess of Love in Rucka's run.
>>
>>78002899
At this point in time, while I would prefer a good Wonder Woman story, I'd settle for a good story featuring Wonder Woman. Azz delivered at least that.
>>
>>78002967
He did not
>>
>>78002950
To think that at one point she was the Goddess of Love rather than the Goddess of War.
>>
>>78002967
Yeah, I've got no problem with that, just feel bad for actual WW fans (I'm not one of them, only thing I've read of hers is Azz run and I've been told it's really different from the usual WW stuff)
>>
>>78002867
>Superman-WonderWoman
>>
>>78002150
Wonder Woman has been shit for most of her existence sadly
Her fans overrate her character more than anyone else
If Marston knew how to write well and didn't clutter her origin up with bondage shit she could have been good but for so long after he wrote the character as an inconsistent joke no one really knew what to do with her so now you see the warrior shit happening because while it does fly in the face of the largely inconsistent mess that is wonder woman continuity it is the best way to make her get taken seriously

Which is the most important thing
Being a doctor healer or mediator is not even being a superhero anymore
Her job is to fucking punch people stop injecting nonsense into her character and then maybe she'll be better off
>>
>>78002785
>You can't reason with some monsters.
There's no way she should be significantly less compassionate than Bruce and Clark
>>
>>78002950
No, she was the God of truth
>>
>>78003036
Shouldn't she by definition be the most compassionate?
>>
>>78003006
Well, that's, like, your opinion, man.
>>
>>78003082
Yes but both Bruce and Clark are exceptionally compassionate so that's a big ask
>>
>>78002150
Who is Wonder Woman to you anyway? What comics represent her best in your opinion? I'm genuinely curious.

Best Wonder Woman coming through
>>
>>78003247
Not him but to me WW can be summarized in:
A strong but compassionate warrior who goes away to meet the land of men and find that it's good.

There's several runs who do that well and she isn't even a hard character to do well. The problem is that she's always being hijacked to prove a point or another. I mean, do we really need another "night clube guy is a dick, thus every man is a dick, GIRL POWER!" issue?
>>
>>78003036
>>78003082
>>78003128
>comparing compassion
You can't compare that. She'd differ from them in that she'd show it in her own way.

Her naivete would give her a unique charm that both Clark and Bruce lack cause of their experiences. She'd be more open that those 2 and considering she has no secret identity and her sole reason to come to mans world is to help out, she'd essentially be a social worker/philanthropist 24/7.

They should have their own ways to help out.
>>
>>78002781
Diana has always been a diplomat, not a warrior.
>>
>>78003321
>I mean, do we really need another "night clube guy is a dick, thus every man is a dick, GIRL POWER!" issue?
That has never happened in the nu52 WW run
>>
>>78003128
>Bruce is compassionate

I preferred him when the reason for the no-kill rule was sociopathy.
>>
>>78003036
>>78003082
>>78003128
The no kill rule has less to do with compassion than it does with not being hunted by the same people you are trying to protect.
>>
>>78003082
Sometimes compassion for others is more important than compassion for the individual. I think it makes sense that Clark and Batman would be more deontologist and care tremendously about the "wrong path" they'd go down if they killed someone, but Diana is from a warrior culture, and while I agree with OP taht she herself should be more of a diplomat than a warrior (assuming that's what he's saying), I think her adopting a utilitarian approach and deciding that letting the really horrific, hard-to-contain villains continue to murder people is, in fact, the least compassionate option makes complete sense.
>>
>>78003278
Clark and Diana were both boring as fuck in that show.
>>
>>78003398
That happened in the nu52 WW actually. Under the Finches.
>>
>>78003398

It did, recently.
>>
>>78003466
>>78003555
Not him, and witnessed, but the post anon replied to seemed to imply that it was completely trite at this point and happened all the time,
>>
>>78002756
I would prefer a form of chivalry, honestly. One with professional courtesy for others acknowledged as warriors, but also allowing for a certain level of roughness and practicality that's a little scary.

You could go into "Batman country" and have something like that by seeing off most goons with trips to the ER, although if they were truly scummy or didn't know when to stay down, they would die.

Or you could just have that be a general attitude of one of the more mean spirited Robins, or Nightwing. Along with the acknowledgement that a staff is a potentially deadly weapon and what is short of killing with it, can also break a guys face, along with the BAM PIFF WOW! factor of crippling a dozen guys in a few seconds.

Which is less unrealistic than it sounds because reliable accounts in history have well built, skilled people using staffs to beat the living shit out of pretty large gangs of guys festooned with knives and ugly sticks and whatever nastiness could be found.

I think you could probably get one over on a guy with a gun because you can whip the ends around surprisingly fast, and you would shatter their hand and fingers into about a hundred (PAINFUL) little pieces.

>a mouthpiece for the author.

>>
>>78003600
Several? It's one thing to put a small portion of you beliefs in a character. WW is taken to a whole new level, like Whor.
>>
>>78003600
A lot of them? Or at least they don't lack finesse. She's become less of a character with an actual personality and more of a sidekick that changes with the situation. SM/WW is a prime example.
>>

if she's not a warrior shy is she fighting crime?

I agree that she shouldn't be portrayed as super warrior who always poses with sword and shield, but part of her always has been a skilled fighter.

I do get annoyed when like in Batman v Superman all you see her with is a sword getting ready to kill someone and that movie's popularity will only make that kind of imagery more and more common.

Where did the staff come from? liked what you said, and a staff would be a pretty unique weapon for Wondie to have.
>>

>>
>>78002150

>>
>>78004634
I liked Grant Morrison ideas, would love to see him work on her

Something about sexuality and yes, bondage
>>
WW never had a no-kill rule and should never have one

I don't mind using weapons sometimes, but I also dislike the constant use of the sword as her regular gear

And what pisses me off even more is having her carry a shield all the time
>>
>>78004726
Wonder if it's because fight scenes utilising the lasso are harder to draw
>>
>>78004652
If she's a warrior, she should wear what the best warriors wear - tactical camo with ballistic armor vest. And carry a rifle/grenade launcher with bayonet, not a sword. And pouches for supplies.
>>
>>78002150
Does she still wear this trash bag?

The only thing I've read in the last ten years has been the Azzarello run... she's a warrior but it also seems to deal heavily with the themes of love, mercy, and womanhood. The artwork in the other New 52 books looks so shitty that I don't even bother...
>>
>>78003321
>I mean, do we really need another "night clube guy is a dick, thus every man is a dick, GIRL POWER!" issue?

You haven't seen the movie yet, how do you know she's like that?

>>
>>78002150
I actually agree. She's supposed to be an avatar of peace, yet Nu52 is the exact opposite of that. She's just straight up inconsistent where most other heroes are. You see Superman/Batman, you know what the deal is with them and what he believes in no matter what incarnation barring the first year of their existence. Ww's is highly dependent on what Era she's in.

The grappling wasn't only about sneaking bondage into a kids book though, the ancient Greeks were very fond of wrestling as a sport and WWs original design took that into account, same with her uniform being similar to a hoplite's armour. The swimsuit design isn't that bad either, seeing as the ancient Greeks idealized the nude body and were not modest.

Now she just looks really generic.

Showing a good side of her doesn't work if it's a shit forced moment in a shit story

That crap felt so out of place, and right after there's the fucking "accidentaly dodging something" trope

The Finches have been trying to fix what they did in the first arc, but it just feels forced and stupid now

This fucking run makes my blood boil
>>
>>78002150

I never liked the /co/ncept that her thousands of years of combat training is in itself a superpower. It should give her an edge but too many people treat it as a Superman killer.
>>
>>78002150
I really like that outfit. Marvel did something similar with Carol Danvers but then they went overboard and turned her into a follow blown butch dyke.
>>
>>78007378
Isn't her skin literally bulletproof? She shouldn't need ballistic armor if that's the case.
Doesn't she have weapons that are basically divine, meaning they're better than Mortal weaponry?
