It was alright.
Yes, they had a nice mix of anime and western influences, and also a nice mix of serious episodes and funny ones. Some nice songs and animated sequences. Interesting designs for main characters, secondary characters and backgrounds.
Sometimes it was too much sitcom like, which mixed with the anime made some of the episodes though to watch. Episodes that aimed to hit a "feel" were hit or miss in the best cases. Wish they had more space exploration to explore more their ambients rather than city, random evil lair, and the tower.

Good enough to watch. Not good enough to marathon. Animation, writing, and sound direction hold up, but the anime elements of the animations are going to be offputting to anyone who's grown past the shit's that mixed into the show. I think it had to be cautious about invoking too powerful beings, besides Raven's dad, or it brings into question where other superheroes, especially the Justice League are. At least, I think, been a while so kind of forgot most of it.
Most villain of the week stuff sucked (control freak and the like) but the actual stories with them (MOTHERFUCKING DOOM PATROL) were good. Even the stand alone episodes with just them (Raven's refusal to admit fear fucks shit up) were enjoyable.
Basically it hinged on whether the intro was english or japanese.

A kids cartoon can still be pretty solid and mature in delivery. Teen Titans had that, but all the chibi and low-detail noodle people segments just felt kiddish and disrupted the feel when they popped up.

I liked it growing up. Slade was cool and some episodes were interesting, i never really gave a shit about anime so I never really cared that it appropriated japanese culture (I know that triggers you guys).
Nah but for real you weebs give it too much shit for being faux anime. I'm glad I grew up with it rather than TTGo which out of its million episodes its only good jokes are the youtube video suggestions, the serious episode, and any time they randomly go back to the old style.

I dislike the show because I didn't like any of the characters and thus couldn't get into the (cheap) drama. I never really found the plots interesting, although I wouldn't exactly say they were badly written.

Can I just say how shocked I always am, by how much hate BB always gets, in any TT thread, of any incarnation? Whether it's the comics, this series, or TTG, BB gets nothing but shit, when he's the only good character at all.
Starfire's a hot retard, Raven's emo shit gets old, who fucking cares about Robin and his lust for Slade's cock, and maybe if the series had done more with Cyborg trying to reconcile his human and robot parts (like in the comics), he'd have been better, but he just winds up being a second comic relief character. Actually, a third comic relief character, but actually sometimes funny, unlike Starfire and her eating weird shit and talking like Yoda.

It was amazing back then, but it's utter rubbish now. For three reasons.
1: The obvious one - it's a show specifically designed for teenagers. And not in an "actually for all ages" way.
2: Part of it's appeal was its anime-based expressions. This was a BIG appeal at the time, because this was an age where anime was still hard to come by (this was pre-Naruto, even). Compared to every other, more stiff and subtle Western show, Teen Titans was a whole new world of expressiveness. But now, in a world where anime is far more prevalent.
3: Cartoons got... better. As they always do. Avatar in particular is a VERY similar show but with better animation and more natural writing.

The Slade arcs IMHO were fucking amazing. I think he'd have to be one the greatest animated villains that I've come across.
