And some pages from New X-men #122. There is a little bit of wiggle room for Magneto to have "switched" places with Xorn I guess inbetween the annual and this sequence.
Honestly, my position was always that "Xorn is Magneto" was a crap reveal even within Morrison's run. It felt like an asspull at the time, and still does to me.
AND I thought the retcon stuff started in these last Uncanny issues but it's in Austen's X-Men.

It's like Austen gets his entire idea of the South from Blazing Saddles.
I was afraid that the final arc would be just plain mediocre instead of outright bad, but once we got to cartoon hillbillies in mech suits and a Romeo/Juliet romance where the man literally can't stop talking the most painful "romantic" prose I've ever seen outside of Myspace blogs I knew we were fine.

I hate to invoke this kind of language...but that's exactly the kind of thing that makes people see "anti-conservative bias" or a "liberal agenda" in comics. Then again, "BIGOTS ARE COMING TO KILL YOU" is kind of exactly what X-men is about, so I don't even know.

I'm a dirty agnostic liberal faggot and I thought everything he did with religion and the South was embarrassing. Every part of the story involving bigotry felt like a bad 80's anti-bullying PSA, there was never any modulation in the storytelling so it was always at this ridiculous melodramatic octave. His depiction of The South was two steps away from Yosemite Sam.
The best part of the Evil Pope storyline was Austen's random Bible quotes every page, it's like you could see his smug expression coming off the page going "Uh yeah I'm so fuckin' deep man lemme throw another hot quote here it's like poetry." It was so insanely disrespectful and fucking stupid.

There is this tendency in comics and other pulp media to use biblical language and imagery as a way to kind of co-opt the "gothic, mythic" sensibilities of it all. The cover of one of those issues with Nightcrawler on the cross in the rain. I'm thinking of Leifelds Prophet run, the way Spawn and the Crow play with the imagery. Crimson. God, what else from the mid 90's onwards..
Anyway, yeah. Austen's use of angels and demons as pulp romance and soap characters (NO...I am your FATHER!), the way he handles scriptures, it's bad.

The entire Draco storyline was maybe the closest I've ever come to feeling like I'm reading genuine fanfiction. Like Lucky Chuck, FF.net writers also love cramming random biblical imagery and secret fathers with an OCDonusteel collection of siblings into the mix.

Trial of Juggernaut would have been a better end to this run. Just felt like a better end cap.
She Lies With Angels didn't really resolve stuff with Paige. None of it was really interesting or original either. I liked Paige as a character, but giving Emma diamond skin kind of made Paige irrelevant anyway.
Of Darkest Nights picks up from what was probably the worst part of Morrison's run (though I was never much of a fan of RIOT!). Wolverine taking the high road never really works well, and Marvel insistence on making SW and QS not Magneto's kids once again takes some of the impact out of their older stories.
Also, wasn't Havok and Polaris together again toward the end of X-Factor?
