Despite that, Kara is quite nice, which disappointed some fans who have met her.

Nothing wrong with RWBY Dynasty Warriors, but I strangely enjoyed the struggle of getting to Wave 10 with random potion drops, powers that you couldn't even get until Wave 5, and those awful controls.

I feel the same way. I think what makes Jaune's weapon stand out is that it doesn't transform, which calls attention to his semblance and need to adapt himself to the situation instead of his weapon.
I felt the same way about Weiss and Myrtenaster, which is why I'm a little conflicted about all the additional powers she seems to be getting this season.

Weiss doesn't need her weapon to transform, she has an unlimited supply of dust and dust is basically magic. All she has to do is move the chamber and she gets another effect.
This is also a flaw because we haven't seen her combine any of these effects yet, probably can't so she's only effective aslong as she constantly changes the type of dust she has in the chamber.

I think versus modes are always cool, especially if they're planning on adding couch co-op at some point. The difficulty would be pulling it off, though, as this style of controls doesn't always lend well to versus play. That is unless their willing to entirely rework the controls, which would be very ambitious.

Exactly what I felt made Myrtenaster cool. It always maintains a single form but can adapt to fit the situation, which made it different from the half-gun everything else.
I would have liked to see her combining dust effects or using them in tandem more so than the summoning or ice magic stuff volume 3 is introducing.

I hear you, all you gotta remember though is that by using a revolver chamber to store her dust in she limits how many aplications she can use at any one time.
It's like she didn't think of combining the applications of dust to get more destrucitve power from them. If she used her runes as traps she could pull this off. She might even be able to alter the make-up of her summonings to become made of fire or some shit.
Weiss strikes me as a person that put alot of thought into her weapon and it's use in a fight but not is how it can be used to control dust outside of one at a time.
Apparently though everybody has a trump card that they haven't used in the series yet.

You can see for yourself, it was pretty clunky. It was pretty much just mashing attacks until the other guy stopped blocking.
Like GE, Dynasty Warriors' only multiplayer is usual just co-op now. Competing for control over turf turf/territory wouldn't be a bad idea, though.

Given that aura is the light of the soul and that semblances seem to be mostly shaped by the individual, it might have to do with personality and personal history. I could imagine Jaune for example having an incredibly straight up and honest combat focused semblance, because that is who he is and who he wants to be.

Right exactly. Jaune wants to be a defender of other people so it'd make sense that his semblance is a massive barrier that heals. Pyrrah is a champion that wanted people to get close to her (magnetic personality). Ren who knows. Nora his loud and bombastic, like lightning.
Blake's seems to be the opposite however, even states that he hates it because it feels like she's always running away so a semblance doesn't have to be based off positive personality traits or ambitions.
I'd just like to believe that it's a giant roulette weel though.

That reminds me of the kind of badass moment I'd like to see out of Jaune if he must have one. If for some stupid reason they decide to send Jaune to the doubles round, he gets separated from his partner and his foe just starts relentlessly wailing on him. Just a complete and total beating that Jaune can't keep up with, it goes on for long enough to get the message across, RWBY and NPR are looking scared and concerned for him; and then his foe pauses for a moment to glance over at the big score screen and we all see that even after all that it only chipped away at 10% of Jaune's AuraJaune may not be a great fighter, nor does he have amazing powers; but damn can he take a beating.
Of course, this wouldn't be consistent with Jaune getting his ass beat by Cardin that one time. but inconsistency is hardly a problem for RWBY
