The country wlould've been poorer without English taxes paying for their stuff, the North Sea oilfields are owned by English companies and English taxes subsidise Scottish farming, education and healthcare. As well as a lot of Scottish companies having bases in London to make international trade easier would have to move/pay far more tax as forgein companies in England. Plus the promise of giving Scotland's MPs even more voting powers in English parliament (but not vice versa) if they stayed.
