So in the episode "jack the monks and the ancient master's son" Jack goes back to save the two monks instead of entering the time portal.

But if he went back in time and beat Aku, wouldn't that change the future so that the monks were never in danger anyway?

Someone please rationalize this, because it pissed me off and made no sense.

everyone makes bad decisions

So the explanation is he just fucked up? And even if the monks did die, how many millions would Jack have saved by using the portal?
>>
>>77948035
again everyone makes a bad decision sometimes is really just it
He wouldnt allow the monks to die but didn't think about the long term
he made a quick decision and failed at it

Can't have the plot advance. The whole show was just blueballs because there's literally nothing to it but scenery porn and the occasionally interesting concept. Jack is just a mishmash of cliches so there's no chance for any sort of plot that involves character development.

Well, I know its just a cartoon, and don't mean to sound autistic, but It made so little sense that I wanted to yell at my TV screen.

fairly certain everyone hated it but still you just gotta deal with it
>>
A wizard did it
>>
He didn't go back in time because hes a samurai from ancient times. Muh honor is why he stayed

Have we had a thread about this? I'm surprised we aren't talking about it more. It's coming back!

Jack's sense of honor forbade him from leaving someone to die.

On a meta level, yeah-gotta-keep-the-show-going, but it makes sense from a character viewpoint.

yes but in episode AG 4...

We had a sticky about it.

It was just stupid writing to make things go back to the status quo.

Multi-time line theory
>>
>>77947829
He doesn't know if he'd beat Aku or if the bad timeline would be overwritten. It might just create a split timeline where their scenario still exists.

>>77948099
The plot of actually going back in time to stop Aku isn't what the show is about. It's just a setup for 22-minute short films that resolve their own plots within them.

Multiverse theory, bro.

>how many millions would Jack have saved by using the portal?

Y'know, when he actually does go back in time that's not actually going to make a difference. It's not like people in the past can die while he's trapped in the future.
>>
>>77947829
Because he realizes that if he just ditches the "future that is Aku" for the past, he's failing everyone in that period as well. Noble, but also fooooolish.

It's also why the Guardian spares him. Jack must fix the future and then save the past.
>>
>>77947829
by the end of the comics he says something along the lines of it being impossible to really go "back in time".

it makes a lot more sense, since going back in time is really impossible.
>>
>>77947829
It works for the same reason Jack wasn't allowed in the portal under watch by that giant blue bodyguard . . . Jack's fate was never that he would go back in time. Ever. It's his fate to defeat the Aku of the future.

>multiple stickies
>have we had a thread lol
>>
>>77947829
No, he would have just created an alternate timeline where it never happened. The monks would still be in danger in their own
>>
I kind of want there to be no multiple timeline shit, so it introduces a moral conflict where he has to choose one option or the other. He'll have the option to go back to the past, defeat and defeat Aku there, but in turn it would change history and wipes out everyone who exists in the present. But on the other hand, he could defeat Aku in the present time, come to terms with the fact that what happened in the past happened and everyone he met and influenced during his journey helps to rebuild the world.

Or maybe that would be too much bullshit and I'm overthinking this.
>>
>>77947829
Jack puts honour above all else. He trusted himself enough to find another way back that he wouldn't turn his back on someone in need, even if that someone would be saved if the portal succeeded and time really did change permanently.

This.

It's lretty mich confirmed on the comics that he doesn't know of going back to the last created a new timeline or not.

That's why he decide to kill Aku on the future first, and just them going back to the past, to kill him again.
>>
>>77947829
It's the question of Jack's ethics. He only takes the immediate option to helping people, because that's what he does. Never at the expense of another. I thought this would be obvious. Sure, it seems to be a flawed morality in some greater scheme of things but that is purposeful disconnection from Jack's surroundings and the present. How could he allow others to be endangered?

The whole point of his quest is to get back to his time, defeating Aku is only a part of that. He could do it without going back in time first, but Aku is too slippery for that and has the whole world to run away and hide in, unlike in the past.
