Why animation films seems to be becoming more and more silly and childish over the time?

Remember when Disney wanted make impressive films, not just quick lil' summer blockbusters?
>>
>Most senior Disney animators left production on Lion King in favour of Pocahontas because they figured the former would be shit

Even they luck out.

We are presenting the return of the hysterical moralism and "politically correctness" so it is hard to make a movie that won't gather lots of people complaining over absurd shit like how they didn't like how a character was portrayed or how certain themes are too adult for a "movie for kids"

Yes, but then they shoved shitty comic reliefs all over the goddamn place that ruined the tone and flow of the movie. Treasure Planet also suffered from this.

The only movie that got the balance of seriousness and comedy right (At the time) was Atlantis. Even Beauty and the Beast was a mess with its slapstick moments with the villagers and Lefou during the finale.

Frozen is a lot deeper than the pseudo-environmentalist message of Poke-a-hot-ass.

Disney always tried to make movies that make money. The artistry was only so people can say "look how good Disney animation is", and dismiss other animated movies for not being animated as expertly as Disney. Now that anyone with a computer can knock out a CG piece of shit and nobody knows the difference between Food Fight and Frozen, you actually do have to invest in the humor and wit and themes of the movie.

To recap, Frozen has much deeper themes than Pocahontas, and it's executed a lot better too.

It doesn't help if your source material is an anticlimactic piece of shit that's been done to death a thousand times over and banks on an 18th century reality nobody really cares about anymore.
Yes, the beginning is cool but everything on that island is shit and it just kind of peters out in an unsatisfying way because we can't have a long and complex relationship play out in a 90min movie.

Also Disney needs to make a version of their movies without the annoying sidekicks.

Was it that hard to make one movie without an evil magician/animal sidekicks?

Pocahontas is not the best example

hunchback or maybe treasure planet

But it's for the KIDS.
>>
>>77943893
>>77944155
Yeah, because throwing sci-fi cgi and fart jokes on an old book is totally serious.
>>
>>77944121
But then how would kids relate?
>>
>>77943770

Isnt it weird how the current generation of young adults, people with small kids, is in general very progressive and center left, but never before little girls have wanted to be princesses so much?
It is as if leftits were very conservative puritants when raising their kids.

BTW, I am not American, I am from South America, my sister is a leftist doctor who supports all leftist goverments of the region (like Chavez), but she entertains her daughter with movies about princesses.
>>
>>77944276
Well, the princess role just changed.
They are no longer an inert hub or accessory to a hero, but acting protagonists and even rulers.
Just look at the role of Jasmine as opposed to Mulan. Cinderella compared to Merida or Elsa.
Disney princesses are no longer decoration and are far stronger than theyuused to be.

Just look at the Star Wars short about Leia (yes, she is officially a Disney princess now) collecting all the remnants of Alderaan's population.
That is what the term now encapsulates. Diplomats, rulers, warriors, rebels. Not porcelain puppets.
Adventure Time made princess the default ruler title. And with Flame Princess, Princess Bubblegum, Marceline etc they have a wide range of roles for them.

So what is happening is not a surge of conservatism but a subversion of the popular princess term by loading it with new meaning.
If the trend holds we might yet see Victoria Luise, princess of the German Empire as a villain. That would be great with her in the Prussian hussars' uniform, skull cap and all.

Who fucking cares if people complain?
SJWs seek out reasons to be offended, but anti-SJWs seek out SJW shit for the same reason. I have no idea why people are addicted to getting angry on the internet.

Gee, it's almost as if these movies are made for children and not for 20 something year old neckbeards.

The popularity of Shrek became something people wanted to emulate.
Like they did with Ice Age 2.

1. There have always been both 'serious' and 'silly' animated films.
2. You are making assumptions about Disney that you cannot prove. Because you do not find somthing impressive does not mean that it was not intended to be impressive.
3. What do you even mean by impressive? Are you talking about technology or narrative or art or any of the thousands of other ways somthing can be impressive?
4. In the last decade Dreamworks has moved away from exclusively making Shrek imitators to attempting less 'silly' films like HTTYD and Kung Fu Panda.
5. These films are still fundamentally intended to appeal to family audiences and to do that they must appeal to children, which limits the direction that they can be taken in. This is not a new development and there is nothing inherently wrong about making films intended for children.
6. Often bold innovative concepts/stories/settings/visuals sell poorly.

Every day. Every single day. I fucking hate this place.

Why is Jasmine grouped under 'old Disney' with Cinderella? She was part of the Disney Renaissance and is hardly a static point in Aladdin's story. So much so, that her willfulness not to be forced into a marriage she doesn't want actually brings about political reform by the end of the movie.

>It doesn't help if your source material is an anticlimactic piece of shit that's been done to death a thousand times over and banks on an 18th century reality nobody really cares about anymore.

This. It's a very uninteresting era. Rarely do old era films become successful in modern times, look at Mask of Zorro. That one was a random success. Then they ruined it with the shitty sequel where they added that unfunny annoying kid character.
>>
Form follows function

In 2D slowing down the pace and just showing the setting or whatever limited movement cuts costs while CGI lets you be a complete spastic mongoloid so that's how the films end up.

Just kidding you can't leave

There just is a very big cut between her and Mulan. Jasmine is reacting, mostly. She is not passive, but not yet breaking out of the princess mold. Her act of rebellion is asking to choose her spouse, which is not much compared to infiltrating the army and stopping an invasion, then telling the Emperor to suck it.
