This happens in a bunch of films that take place in non-English speaking countries. Either everyone has a British accent or only one or a few characters sound like they're actually from there. Phantom of the Opera is the same way, only Madame Giry has a French accent.

Since technically, they would be speaking French and not English, which is why giving them American/British accents doesn't feel out of place. If you wanted to be accurate, everyone would be speaking French with subtitles.
