The event sounds extremely generic to be honest. Sounds like the typical cape story where shit happens and something is destroyed and at the end a big fight occurs and they defeat the bad guy and everyone happy. The thing I can't predict is the status quo big change. Evan dying isn't big so it won't be that. Let's see what happened in the X-events of this decade:
2010 - Second Coming: Cable died/A few new mutants born
2011 - Schism: The X-Men separated
2012 - AvX: Cyclops became a fugitive/Uncanny Avengers creation/A lot of new mutants born
2013 - Battle of the Atom: Kitty left the school

Secretly everyone is a Bendis fan. Sure people here like to feel they have superior taste by calling him shit, hack or whatever they want. They feel better knowing their current indy darling is way better than the top dog at Marvel because it somehow validates the comics they are reading and that's fine.
And yeah the things people complain about Bendis are true as well. He likes to write for trades with slow pacing arcs and his characteristic dialogue. Not to mention putting the stories over any kind of continuity fans want to be acknowledged.
But it's also true that what he does is exactly what Marvel needs. He actually puts some effort in trying to change and advance these characters. You people always criticize his changes because you don't want your characters to advance that fast. Maybe if a change is teased and slowly build then in ten years you will accept it but Bendis doesn't have ten years. He wants to move forward himself not wait until his grandsons do the job for him. You hate him for that but it's what Marvel need. His stories also appeal to the readers. He writes what they want to read. Compare Guardians of the Galaxy against Inhumans. Both had the same number of variants but Bendis still won because he writes the team of Guardians people are interested in reading, accuse him of waifuing or whatever but people accpeted Kitty as Star-Lord because Bendis sold her to them in the first issue. He also put the Avengers on the map and some might say he did it by using gimmicks and events but he was the one who dared to pull these gimmicks and events, and they worked. People liked it. Bendis does know what people want. /co/ of course has other ideas, and most likely those ideas would send Marvel into bankruptcy again.
Bendis works, and /co/ loves him. All the hate messages are just the way they have to show their love.

I did not take the nanosentinel infection to mean that it was always him screwing with them, I took it to mean that at the moment when he attacked the school, he was fucking with their powers. Emma got her telepathy back eventually, and everybody was surprised, which wouldn't have been the case if it was just the nanosentinels doing it, because Beast figured out a solution to it in minutes.
Colossus was never with them between losing his Phoenix powers and them finding McCoy, and he had his powers screwed up. Also, Forge should have found it.

The story exists as a "fuck you" to anybody bitching about the O5. The central "debate" (should we send them home or should it be their choice) makes no sense when the start of the story shows everything will collapse if one of the O5 is killed in the present.
The Future Brotherhood led by Xavier Jr. is one of the worst villain groups ever created and the Future X-Men are pretty much just wallpaper, including Storm/Black Panther's daughter who's left in the past to hunt the future Brotherhood and promptly forgotten even when the Brotherhood shows up again.
The entire debate of the story is rendered moot when the O5 can't go back because ________ (there's literally no other reason than "the device won't allow them to"). Wolverine acts like a smug cunt to Cyclops for no reason and states it doesn't matter that he's killed a lot of people because Cyclops (drunk on Phoenix Force) killed Xavier by accident. The problem with battle of the Atom is that it makes sense as a single story arc that should have been resolved at the end of the arc. Instead what we get is one of the most cancerous changes in X-men status quo. You can tell there was absolutely no synergy between Aaron and Bendis during the event. If I remember correctly it was originally supposed to be an Aaron event, and Bendis just hitched a ride on it. The O5 fiasco should have been resolved at the end, but instead we get a whole book dedicated to them.
People saw the title All-new X-men and were legitimately hyped because they thought it was going to be a teen book filled with new mutants, while Uncanny was about the old generation. Instead what we got was a book dedicated to the OLD X-MEN BUT YOUNGER. All it did was crossover after crossover. Battle of the Atom, Trial of Jean Grey 2.0, Ultimate Crossover, Black Vortex. It can't be read on it's own, it's such trash that in order to get the full reading you have to get other books.
The worst part about this? There is no going back, because doing so would mean Marvel was wrong. This is a company so far up it's own ass that they go out of their way to make fans, and what better than the X-men fans since they come back for more every time, like battered housewives. The O5 is here to stay because it's the new Bendis Status quo, and noone has the balls to undo it because they don't want to step out of line.
Three years later and All-new X-men is once again about the cancerous O5, and Teen Jean is one of the leads of Extraordinary. And just as another fuck you, they added in Old Man Logan, because god forbid they let him stay dead for less than a year. Gotta milk the Logan/Jean shippers for all their money after all.

Both of those things are true. Why do you think Mark Paniccia is in charge of the X-Men editing now? He's the editor who gets all the stuff the more powerful editors don't want. (When Marvel decided to kill the Fantastic Four, Tom Brevoort let Paniccia edit the last year of the book.)
That doesn't mean Marvel is going to stop making X-Men comics. The market demands X-Men comics. It doesn't even mean the books will be terrible; Paniccia's books are sometimes quite good (Incredible Hercules, X-Men First Class, Marvel Adventures). It just means X-Men comics no longer get the top-tier marketing and promotion.

All-New X-Men was generally more popular than Uncanny, I recall - sold better, got better reviews. I think it played to Bendis's strengths more (writing wisecracking teenagers) and it was sort of a new idea for a franchise that doesn't have a lot of new ideas.
Now it's an old idea that's past its sell-by date, but Big Two companies never give up on anything if it worked 3 years ago.

I can see Aaron, Gillen, Remender, and Hickman undoing the whole mess, but half of them are gone. Secret Wars was the perfect way to get rid of the O5.
