Yes, the height of LPS's popularity was back when it first aired, but it just slowly and surely decreased more and more with each season.
Even then, it was really only the first ~10 episodes of S1 that got 400k-500k viewers, everything after that was between 100k and 300k.
Most people just wrote LPS off as "cheap clone of the horse show", citing things like Zoe and Minka having similar colors to characters in the horse show and the general "talking animal cartoon" thing, and LPS fell into obscurity pretty quickly.
Really sad too because I'm honestly enjoying LPS a lot more than FIM. But, eh...I suppose it's good that we've gotten 4 seasons of consistent writing quality, with no major status quo changes or obnoxious executive meddling.
