I've put it off for a long time, but I finally just started reading New X-Men. Why does it trump the last decade+ of X-titles that I've read (Yes, it's better than Uncanny X-Force which is imo shit after the Archangel arc)? What do you think makes it not incredibly shit a la Bendis etc?

Morrison's run was pretty edgy, even leaving aside the two genocides that took place, that scene where Cassandra Nova tortures Beast is genuinely pretty cruel and terrifying.
It was okay stuff from Morrison.
X-Statix came out at the same time and was better.

It was good because it was a mature and fun and dark. All the hall marks of Morrison. Add the storytelling of Quietly and the fill in artists and you have a good read.
Marvel can't ever top what Morrison did. In the books that came after Morrison's run writers just tried to up the weird and did it irresponsibly. Bendis is a huge culprit as well as the Xbooks editorial team.
It's why Morrison's All Star Superman was amazing and why his epic run on Batman was the best thing to happen to Batman since the 1989 movie.
M not a fan of Jim Lee, I may have been when I was a kid, but with growth comes the desire to expand the mind and taste in art. Unfortunately some people are arrested in development and will have shit taste until the day they die.
This is the only good X-Men comic i've ever read, i never understood the hype surrounding Spider-Man and X-Men comics but would alays give them a shot but they'd always be subpar at best, this was the only one that wasn't.
