I wouldn't call these the best but for the past few days I've been watching this series and I just finished the third one a couple hours ago so right now for me would be the first one out of the series with the second one a few feet behind, the third was meh but I liked the mom origin story. I like other animated films but I guess right now I'm filled with childhood nostalgia because I keep playing the songs in my head causing me to like it more plus Ariel is kind of hot in the first film even if she is "16" to me she looks like early 20s. For anyone who hasn't seen The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, it comes to mind as the only 10/10 fucking masterpiece in recent years. There is a lot of terrible anime out there but when they get it right, they get it so fucking right.

Not defending the Beowulf film, because it was terrible, but the story of Beowulf which WAS reasonably translated to the film, is a mature one. It is a story of conquering and succession and the rights of a king and how the downfall of man stems from his own actions and hubris. These aren't really family themes.
