The 'sleek' flash the show used came off to me as soulless and derivative.
The lo-fi, squiggly, hand-drawn animation that show was born from had a charm to it. It reflected the 'unrealness' of the character's deranged perspectives. Like you were watching a hazy memory unfold or an embellished vignette. The line between real and imaginary was fuzzy, like the animation itself.
In the original videos most of the 'action' happened inside the character's heads. The world around them was normal (as normal as our crazy fucked up world is), but the character's warped perspectives imbued it with a sense of wonder and mystery. You had Babycakes and overgrown manchild who wrestled with making sense of reality as seen through his childlike naivety, and the Prof. Brothers who lived in an academic bubble where they were insulated from 'normalizing' pressures of regular society, so their bizarre theories and predilections were left to grow unchecked.
In the show, the characters are mostly regular ass people with regular wants and needs and a few distinguishing neurosis and it's the world around them that's fucked to hell with super science, deities, and all other kinds of crazy off the wall bullshit that was used as a plot device.
The whole show felt lazy. It was rank with the pungency of board room decisions. In trying to make Neely's universe into a commercialized product that would hit with the 18-35 demographic they succeeded in sucking out all the heart and the passion and leaving it a dried up husk.

The professor brothers mostly, they're assholes in this. Baby cakes is mostly the same but less of an autistic sage and more of a moron and I think pony was a DnD nerd in the shorts.
I really loved frank in the shorts while in this they made in him a loser, such a shame.
I still liked the show, though it died when it needed too.

I'm really sad that Unsupervised didn't get a second season. It wasn't an amazing season but you could see they were really finding their legs there towards the end. I think the first few episodes just turned too many people off it.

I miss China IL, but I feel pretty strongly about their second and third seasons being substantially weaker. I think at the cost of more elaborate plots, the fast placed surreal nature of the 11 minute episodes was a lot more effective.
