Every time someone in a cartoon movie stubs their toe, some soccer mom complains and some slow news day article comes out about it. Why are we acting surprised?
>>
>and a boy who is treated like a dog

This triggers me. My brother was once treated like a dog.
>>
>/co/ complaing about soccer moms

How hypocritical. Just yesterday there was somebody on /co/ who started a thread because he had been triggered by the human character biting the head off a bug.
>>
I took my daughter to see this and she cried but it doesn't surprise me she cries for everything
I wasn't aware that people getting emotional from movies was news though
But what's funny is when she came home and told people about the movie all she said was I cried!

Basically these parents are upset because they find crying children obnoxious. They take them to movies to get them to shut up for a couple of hours.

Not because they're interested in art, drama, or appeals to emotion.

I work in the child center at a gym, I run classes so the kids have something to do while the parents exercise.
there is this one kid who is there literally every time I go in, hes there in the morning, hes there on the weekends, hes there after school.

when hes in my classes he doesn't listen at all, in fact hes disruptive. He's isn't mean or bad but hes acting out like while I am instructing he will go over to the toy box and start pulling toys out and throwing one of the balls, or I made an obstacle course and he kicks everything over as he runs through it. I actually kicked him out of the class for that one because when I have 23 kids to work with I can't take the time to chase 1 down and clean up his messes.

I talked to his mother about it, she says he probably just has low blood sugar and they are "trying a new diet" to get him to listen, because apparently he doesnt engage properly at home either.

I was very tempted to say "how about instead of a new diet you stop dropping him off here for hours every day and spend some time teaching him how to listen and socialize properly"
because for some of these parents its like a kennel for their children, they just drop them in there and fuck off for a few hours every day.

My kid's developed an interested in science. She wanted to go to the local science museum for her birthday to, you know, learn some science and have fun.

The whole thing has basically been turned one giant day care. Literally half of one floor has had the exhibits ripped out and replaced with playground/ball pit equipment with no educational value whatsoever. The rest is little puzzle games which might have something to do with IQ but has nothing to do with actual science.

There was this one station she wanted to do, a water rocket launcher. It had simple instructions. Lock bottle in place, turn one valve to fill it half with water, the other valve to fill half with pressurized air, unlock to launch rocket. She ends up getting stuck behind some brat who cuts in line, and does nothing for five minutes but bang on the launch button for no results, while the mom is standing way at the back of the room texting on her phone.

>>77828217
This. I'm fine on the film getting bad reviews and poor sales for looking like a sappy cheap cash grab, but when a movie does poorly and the audience response is it was "too violent" or "too emotional," it doesn't matter if it was a bad movie- that sucks. Because now the studio has the idea they should tone down their future movies and make them less violent and less emotional and take less risks, and that just sets us down a bad path towards a trend of "safe" and boring movies, with no positive artistic development.

Action cartoons are being dumbed down again because everyone says they were too complex for kids...

All that progress that started in the late 80s and 90s is now just shattered and left to shit... It's never going to stop hurting. Close to 30 years worth of effectively proving kids could handle better written action shows is just dead in the water.

>>77829280
>I still see some parents bringing their kids to see R rated movies with them...

It's strange. I see parents that will allow their kids to be exposed to all kinds of risky material in other media aimed at adults in television, the internet, books, and film. Sex, rape, violence, murder, etc. But then if they see something "for kids" that's animated that seems to even inch towards those topics just a little bit, they get really upset over it and all "you can't put THAT in a children's film." It's like they're upset at the principle of the matter: cartoons are for kids and therefore must be safe, even if kids themselves can handle adult content.
>>
>>77829429
But, anon, teachers aren't supposed to teach us. They're supposed to show us how to apply common core instead of basic arithmethics because No Child Left Behindâ„¢. Kids don't go to school to learn; they go to make the school get more juicier grants!

People aren't machines, at least not simple ones. Even when they're tiny and empty-headed they need more than just "input" they need interaction.
Folks just expect children to turn into functional adults as they age without thinking about the process of maturing itself.

Ah well I guess "old" is the wrong the wrong term. I'm still in my early twenties so I was thinking more mid thirties. It still seems a long way from here. It'll probably feel like a flash by the time I'm there but I might manage to get some shit done in that time. Hopefully by that point I'm secure enough to have a kid or, if I'm not, I can stay as far away from parenthood as I can manage.
Probably won't turn out that way but it is something.

Pixar doesn't set it's own ratings. No studio does. Blame the MPAA if you think they gave a film an inappropriate rating. Though, I seriously doubt The Good Dinosaur needed to be rated the next rating up, PG13.

/co/ it is your sworn duty to film, animation and story telling to get into the entertainment business and bring in quality works.

You must shove high-quality, emotional content into the throats of the pacified, coddled, dim-witted modern audience of nowadays.

If you love storytelling, you must. Lest every movie turns into Inside Out and Terminator Genishit.

To be completely fair, when I watched this in theaters there were multiple times when children started crying. Not all the children, but enough to make me regret watching an afternoon showing and not an evening.
>>
>>77840913
This is exactly why I never watch /co/ stuff in theaters. There's a mom reading subtitles to her stupid kid on the right (because she obviously can't be fucked to take him to a dubbed showing). There's a dumb kid asking stupid question that he would know the answers to if he actually watched the movie instead of suffering from ADD on the left. There's some kid crying for whatever reason in front. And there's a little faggot kicking your chair behind you. And of course there's always some kid near you commenting on the movie and explaining stuff to his mom like she's literally retarded. And let's not forget the hour-in mark when literally every kid in the theater needs to go and pee because their parents bought them a huge fucking cup of soda and they, having no self control, guzzled it down in the first half hour.
>>
>>77828391
I'm actually pissed from reading this.

Fucking forever childfree. I don't want kids but if I did, I wouldn't want them to live by the standards these shitty parents force upon them. Why did these idiots even decide to make one if they don't give a fuck about raising it?

And now we have disinterested parents who think "quality time" once a week matters, and a society treating kids like they're mentally handicapped to keep 'em comfy until that happens.

The teenagers I know that were raised like this are spastic idiots with the attention span of a goldfish. The future generation, ladies and gentlemen.

Though it would honestly be better to go with the lion king. It was pretty much this but better.

Despicable Me was a mediocre kids flick but the Minions themselves were always tailor made for the purpose they serve today. They're the comedic equivalent of Poochie. Some team of suits sat around a table and designed characters that strictly appealed to the lowest common denominator. Those "characters" are about as creatively bankrupt as you can get.

My favorite indication of this is the fact that they felt the need to fix the Minions slightly fucked up teeth in the sequels. The one little creative touch the design team put into these characters was promptly squashed so they could sell more Minions plushies.

No. The difference between /pol/ and tumblr is that the media, and by extention culture, is taking tumblr seriously and in some cases even basing its decisions on its userbase.

/pol/ consists of a vocal minority that's been around much longer than the Internet, and it's not gonna get any bigger any time soon.
