You're webcomic is what you make it. Seriousness and all. Gunnerkrigg Court is a prime example of drama working without comedy. No only is it extremely popular, but it's extremely popular on /co/ of all fucking places.

to be fair though what he was saying wasn't 'never take things seriously' but 'never demand seriousness of others if they would rather be silly' because silly is creative, and creativity solves problems.
He cheekily advised "if you're a supervisor and you want a workplace devoid of any fresh new ideas: do the following" and basically instructed them on how to crush all humor and independent thought with a climate of solemn seriousness.

in particular he doesnt see the value in treating death as a deathly serious thing. better to joke around about it and you might think up a way to improve your own life or avoid the same problems that led to that death. or at least enjoy the life they used to have, taking full advantage of it

The real problem with West Tree is that its' very obvious that Dewd is having ideas for like 2 future chapters for every page he draws.
It feels like things never get proper focus or attention because he's thinking so much faster than he's writing and always trying to move ahead to his newest thing.

I know that feel. Still, there's something very charming about a literally who getting their own thread and discussion. I have seen dewd's comic in the webcomic creation threads and they're not bad. I mean yeah they're mediocre but they're different too. Couple that with the lewdness of it and you have a fanbase. Albeit small.
With that said, 4chan is probably the most toxic place to advertise your comic on. Not even for the constructive criticism thing but for the general cynicism this website has so don't feel bad if you don't get a thread.

Not so much exposition dumps, since the exposition dump pages you already have are full of things that have never come up before or since which makes them especially jarring (and uninteresting).
Just like, give time to let plotpoints breathe and slow down. You have to think about how things really appear to an outsider who doesn't know what's in your head. Thinking of things in 20 chapter paces means that the audience sees an idea for all of one or two pages before the comic moves on. Such as Pony/Angel's rapidly changing appearance

I've recently been wondering if my story might have been a bit unsatisfying, because I basically did Back to the Future except saving the mom's life, and i didnt show it happening when it had been accomplished because it was far off, and it had already been shown in flashback when they met her

Ah well Dewd was having a lot of trouble keeping appearances consistent because he kept getting new idears, kept on fixing mistakes, getting better at drawing, plus he kept modifying people so they wouldn't look like ripoffs. It's a wonder you can tell who anyone is, but he's trying. It's kinda like when you binge Red Dwarf and YEARS go on in between seasons and people look quite different or the rules of the setting vary like mad

I would actually like to drag El Goonish Shive into the picture for a minute, that one had crappy art for like, two years, and the characters appearences changed alot, and it switches color to black and white to this day.
Not to mention the plot does change around alot. But It's still considered by most (Including me) a very fun story.
Anyways, I feel like if I slow down my story will start to drag on, It's already 300+ pages and chapter 13 was a little over 50. And were hardly a sixth of the way through the story.
But yeah, the Pony/Angel change was something that needed to happen FAST so people could forget about it, It's kinda like what happened to Rick and Morty.

I think it's more akin to Dexter's Laboratory where the show style was dramatically changed half way through the shows run. That was, of course, due to the swapping of lead animators. However, in your comic, you chose to change the designs because of artistic liberties, i.e. whatever your reason may be. Which is fine, yeah, I mean I wasn't complaining beforehand but I have seen others complain about it and.. to be completely honest? Yeah I think they kind of have a point. It's really jarring to the audience because of how sudden the change was. Other people may get confused about which character is which and others may be even more confused because a couple of characters were changed but not others. It's fine if you want to change the artstyle but it's a weird feeling for the audience. It's a sudden shift in perspective because the audience who loved how the old Dexter's Lab looked now has to like this new look of Dexter's Lab. You can't expect people to keep liking it but yeah most people do and do give in because they just wanted some more Dexter. I feel really silly comparing something as bug as Dexter to West Tree but I hope you get what i'm trying to say.
Now reboots on the other hand I have no qualms with. Since.. it's a reboot. No shit it's gonna look different. Kind of like Ben 10.

Dewd is unrestrained, creative energy, for better or worse. While many artists sturggle with perfectionism or their inability to match what's in their head, Dewd just forges ahead at a constant, quantity over quality pace.
The comic goes on straight from imagination to page, however nonsensical, tonally inappropriate, or derivative it may be (no offense). It has a very loose, work-in-progress, "retcon-it-later" approach to story crafting.
Dewd's work is flawed, sure, but it's flawed because he has TOO MUCH of an unfiltered quality that most artists here find themselves in short supply of.
And that's why West Tree is appealing to me, at least.
That said , don't interpret what I said as an excuse not to fix anything. Listen to this guy >>77839870 and take some more time with your composition.
