Fire can do anything.jpg

Over the years, especially the Silver Age, writers have randomly given heroes and villains new powers to suit the plot. Often these powers are never used again even in situations where they would help because they were too weird and writers would rather forget them.

Case in point, did you know the Human Torch can create 3D "flame images"? He can also create lassos made of fire that can grab things without burning them.

Then he showed up in Superior Spider-Man and he went back to dressing up in Halloween costumes, no adaptoid powers at all

Magneto didn't just used to have telepathy, he brainwashed the entire UN into giving him the inhabited island of Genosha (population: several million humans and mutants) to do as he pleased with.

None of the human inhabitants were ever mentioned again, even as refugees. If we're generous, we assume they died when everybody else did.

>Nightcrawler could turn invisible when in shadows

No idea if it still gets used, but Spider-Girl can do that too.

>>77826301
He used to be able to form wormholes through magnetism, which is simultaneously the most retarded thing he's ever done power-levels wise and actually kind of clever.
>>
>>77827369
He didn't brainwash the UN, he blackmailed them by threatening to kill millions of people with WMDs.
They gave him Genosha because it was a hellhole nobody could handle, and they were convinced not even Magneto could and it would keep him occupied or even lead to his death. Boy were they wrong.
>>
>>77824416
I don't know how forgotten this is. It was pretty prevalent throughout Claremont's run, and it's probably made more recent appearances. I haven't read Claremont's new Nightcrawler solo, but I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up there.

In recent years there have been several situations where he could have used that power to get out situations (like all those times he was imprisoned), but he never did.

He used it to escape hell and kill the Thing in Waid's run.

A few times in minor ways

His healing factor is decent, but not too special in a way. As long as he's not dealt a surely deadly wound, he can heal from it, over the course of a few months.

It mainly just makes him harder to kill than a normal person.
>>
>>77829139
Even weirder, he once defeated Hydro-Man by "absorbing all his heat" and thus freezing him.
He never did that again.

>>77829209
That's because back in the early days the X-Men being mutants was just an excuse for Stan Lee not having to come up with origins for them. They still fought plenty of Silver Age generic villains.
If Juggernaut had been created later, he'd be Charles Xavier's actual brother (or half-brother) and actually be a mutant.
>>
>>77826191

>>77826755
He tried it once when asked if he could make his brain larger to do so and said it wasn't a decent increase at all.
I recall him within the last few years making his forehead bigger to think about something given to him once. For the most part that idea is just considered too stupid for the 616 to work.
I figured Ultimate Reed did actual body/brain modification until later he shows up with a perfectly normal head.
>>
>>77830542
I think she can still do that, but there's been so much bull about Limbo and demons and magic with her everyone kinda forgot. It's like Wanda's probability alteration mutant power that was kinda dropped when she got actual magic.

>>77827369
It makes sense given how OP magnetism powers can get and with the fact that he did actually research physics to properly understand how to abuse his powers for years. He can also still form them. It's just that he's not 100% immune to his powers so if he goes overboard with his powers all the time it eventually affects his brain which is the explanation for silver age psychotic Magneto.

>How does vamparism even translate to freezing things on touch or firing eye blood lasers?
vampirism in Jojo bestows absolute body control. He could lower the temperature in his arms to below freezing levels just by shunting the heat out by vaporizing his blood. The 'lasers' were just extremely high pressure blood squirted from his eyes, with as much force behind them as those hoses that can cut through rock.

He lost most of those powers when he stole Jonathan's body, which had a shitload of residual hamon energy that meant it took Dio a whole lot of blood sucking to overpower. In theory if Jotaro didn't kill him when he did he would have gotten those other vampire powers back

Immortus tricked Thor into giving that power up because he didn't want the Avengers to have easy access to time travel.

Lex Luthor also escaped prison in incredibly bizarre ways.
One of the weirdest ones was when he used pieces from broken radios to create a device that allowed him to contact the Legion of Super-Villains in the futur (whom he had never met, he just asssumed they must exist because there's a Legion of Superheroes), who them used a time machine to rescue him.

Special mention to the Top, who actually gave himself ultrapowerful psychic powers by spinning so hard he turned his brain inside out.
It also killed him, but still, for about a month he was near reality warping level.

>>77841135
DC actually has that as the entire basis of one of their characters. Johnny Quick (not the Earth-3 evil Flash, a much older guy), who gained flight and super speed whenever he said 3x2(9yz)4a .
>>
>>77841881
Yep, but in the Top's case the entire story was built around it and his powers were seen again afterwards, so he didn't have one-off mysterious psi powers that were never seen again. So I don't consider his powers to be pointlessly silly like the rest of the Rogues' for that reason.

He was never exposed to the Mists, but he unlocked his latent powers through training anyway.
He's not alone, Quake unlocked her powers without Terrigen, and Toro gained fire powers without Terrigen and then became more powerful once exposed to Terrigen.

I think so, yeah. Silver Chariot really didn't have anything going for it besides its speed, which was kind of useless when up against The World and he nearly got his ass beat by Vanilla Ice and Cream. If Dio hadn't turned Vanilla Ice into a vampire, Polnareff probably would have died.

Wrong. If Dio hadn't turned Vanilla into a vampire, Polnareff would have won earlier when he stabbed Vanilla in the brain, and Iggy would have lived.
Vailla would have won if Dio had actually explained to Vanilla that he was a vampire now.

this is even a thing in Marvel Heroes. He's super durable, but when his life dips too low he gets a full "no-damage taken" 2 second invulnerability shield that looks like a red force field. Also, any character equipped with an uncommon Ruby of Cyttorak gets the shield, but Juggernaut doesn't need to equip one, freeing up that slot.

it skips forward by erasing a period of time.
like if I launch a ball at such a speed that it will hit a wall after 5 seconds if there was nothing on its paty.
But at the same moment you launch a ball diagonally at such a speed that it will hit a tree after 5 seconds if there was nothing on its path.
3 seconds after being launched the balls hit each other and fall to the ground.
King Crimson deletes seconds 2 through 4, so whatever would have happened in that period never does and thus the balls hit the wall and the tree.
>>
>>77851726
except that doesn't make any goddamn sense because it means that King Crimson can also tell how events would occur without its usage

To understand that the ball will hit the wall is one thing, but the idea that the ball would still retain the direction it was going in after deleting the scene in which it hits a wall would imply that the only thing that's changed is that the wall would not have been hit

The ball would still have the same amount of force and the wall would still have had the effect of being hit, only those moments didn't happen

If somebody shot you and you used King Crimson to take away the second where the bullet penetrated your body, that doesn't mean the bullet just skipped over you in time. That means that everything within that single instance did not happen spare the bullet's launch

well most of the population (half the mutants of the world at the time) got kill by sentinels, and he was "dead" for like six months, which is like six times more than expected for a character like him at the time.

of course is not like the UN planed cassandra nova
>>
>>77852092
no, the cause of the ball hitting the wall starts at moment 1. The hitting of the wall happens at moment 3. KC erases moment 2. So anything that would have happened in moment 2 is erased and its effect(like the ball being intercepted) non-existant.
>That means that everything within that single instance did not happen spare the bullet's launch
exactly, which means that you would have the bullet in front of you flying toward you and then a second later the bullet is behind you flying away, because the moment it hit you is erased.
>because it means that King Crimson can also tell how events would occur without its usage
yeah, that's part of his powers.
