It's less that and more that for the longest time, if you were a female comics fan, there weren't many female protagonists, and by virtue of being cheesecake comics, all of Zenoscope had female protags. Plus they were all "dark and gritty fairy tale reimaginings" which is a beloved genre for a lot of women.
The end result was that while they were cheesecake comics, they starred strong female protagonists with plot and settings that appealed to the female nerd demographic. Plus the cheesecake was mostly just the covers while the interiors had much worse art, and therefore less cheesecake-y art.
Zenoscope is basically for 13 year old boys and middle aged women.
