Except he's only been raised by the Gems for a short time, maybe two years tops. I think the problem with giving Steven a different personality is logically you'd need everyone else to have different personalities and at that point you're pretty much writing OCs with show character's names slapped on them.
It's one of the main peeves I have with Reverse Pines stuff, most of it has in-name-only characters.
