Which is why I would say I feel bad for zero year. I enjoyed it for the most part, but it will never end up replacing year one as the official origin in the long run. Bruce in an already wacky Gotham just doesn't resonate as well as Bruce initially driving the mob out of Gotham.

I liked zero year better because it felt more in place with the dc universe. Year One is good, but it felt more like a crime drama to me, grounded, with more of a focus on Jim Gordon's story as well.

From someone who's currently reading the Bat epic and just read the first 4 issues of RoBW tonight I have to say I have no idea what you're on about.

Not the same anon, but what anon meant is that RoBW is the story of how Bruce escapes the Darkseid time death sentence. In it, you can see the full extent of the "death that is life" (cf Final Crisis term) which turns your entire life into something that will bring an early death to you (for instance, the Bat-shapes death sentence creates Simon Hurt in the 18th century so that Simon can pull the RIP events and try and kill Batman).
In RoBW, it is shown tht the bat which crashes into the window of wayne manor and gave Bruce the idea of becoming Batman was in fact the embodiment of the tracking Death that is Life trap, and thus Batman was created by Darkseid in order to kill Bruce. You'll have a glimpse of that on issue 6 if I remember correctly (havent read the bat epic in a long time)

Ultimately Year One is the definitive Batman origin but Zero Year works as a cool over the top high tech modern take as well.
