I think the whole reason the comic is the way it is, is because Dan i somehow ashamed of mentioning that anything that happens in the comic is remotely modeled after his sexual interests. Even when he does something just slightly risque, he feels the need to use the commentary box to explain why it's logical for the characters and why it absolutely needed to be part of the plot.
