To be fair, Bill never said he would give Dipper the password when they made the deal. Assuming the exact wording matters, it's worth noting how he promised Dipper absolutely nothing in return for the puppet. The closest he got was:

Compare that to his wording with Mabel, in which he did promise an action:

What are the chances that the series final will be amazing? What are the chances it will win back everyone who was disappointed with the last episode, and make them take back everything they said?
What would you guys think if Ford died? What would be the most likely way for it to happen?
Personally I just don't think it'd feel right especially since Gideon might survive all of this and even a monster like that Spider-Woman got to live.
And even if Ford does do it out of sacrifice for his family it would still feel odd.
The writing in this show has bothered me a lot, it's just really hard to tell what direction they'll take the finale.

I've been thinking about that myself. The problem with the last two cards is they'll both be filled with a lot of dark lines necessary to complete the larger images. One will have the Grunks' chins more or less touching, and the other will be filled by Stan's eyes, fez, and glasses. I doubt both symbols will make it on there for that reason.

Yeah, the importance of family is a pretty central theme in Gravity Falls. Dipper, Mabel, and Stan are all the main characters and in the end almost always choose to do right by their family. Their worst moments are generally ones where they're not being good to each other.
Ford is the odd one out, as he doesn't prioritize family or relationships. It's not that he can't care about his brother or niece & nephew, but he's definitely more detached and is content to just do his own thing. This isn't portrayed in a very positive light, which kind of annoys me but it's a kid's show so what can you expect.

On the other hand, though, I think he is desperate for validation in general. That's why Bill was able to seduce him so easily with flattery. I think he does want to be recognized for his greatness. But he wants that admiration to come from highly qualified individuals rather than the general populace.
It probably leads back to him being rejected all his childhood by his peers, and then again when his motion machine failed. He's rejected the traditional trapping of success imposed on him by society, but he still wants to be appreciated nonetheless.
