Name someone referenced more in animation than Peter Lorre.

You can't.
>>
Literally who? Should I ask my grandpa?
>>

>Peter Lorre
In the Simpsons, Lost Souls boat.

What other references?
>>

How come modern animation doesn't reference Steve Buscemi like they did peter lorre.
>>
Groucho Marx perhaps?
>>
>>77743382
They're both good actors with those bugged out eyes, but Buscemi doesn't have the kind of voice that Lorre does, just an accent.

Fun trivia: Nazis wanted Lorre due to him being a famous Jew, but he hid in a Paris hotel. It was 1933, so they couldn't invade the hotel to get him.
An American director friend of his snuck him out, and Alfred Hitchcock paid for him to escape to America.

It faded a long time ago. The book came out in 1937 and was pretty popular (and IIRC the movie version of Lon Chaney was made really soon after the book) so audiences at the time would be fairly familiar with it.

These days most people can probably tell you they've heard of Of Mice and Men but wouldn't be able to tell you what it's about.

IIRC the cast or producers also said that Cad Bane was inspired by Lorre, but I can't remember who said it or what, so take with a grain of salt.

It is difficult to hear, and I think that ultimately Bane comes off more as a cowboy than Lorre. It comes through only a few times.

I didn't knew who he was, but it was very obvious that Looney Tunes was referencing real life actors whenever a character looked like a grotesque caricature instead of a potato headed human like Elmer. Or a straight up accurate rendition.

I did recognize Humphrey Bogart, but not much anyone else.
>>
>>77744900
The Lorre impression is by Lucas's request. It's not something that happened accidentally, Lucas actually said "I want this character to sound like Peter Lorre."

He did the same thing with Ziro the Hutt/Truman Capote.

>>77745002
I think most of us didn't, at least as kids. We wouldn't have had any real exposure to him since he died before we were born and not a lot of his movies got frequent air time on cable.

Speaking of Star Wars and The Good The Bad and the Ugly, upon seeing these images I always thought it was supposed to be imperial stormtrooper pastiche of Blondie / Eastwood.

Have you ever seen Hollywood Steps Out, which is literally 50 of those in a row?
>>
>>77744380
Don Knotts was a background character in Mystery Inc.
>>
>>77745916
I don't think I did, plus even if I did, I didn't knew many Hollywood actors at age 6 when Cartoon Network launched.

I don't even know how I managed to recognize Bogart - but I think it was because they specifically named him in that episode (unlike in others where he just asked for a spare dollar for an American who is down on his luck).

And that episode I posted the screencap of was shown quite a lot. I don't remember Hollywood Steps Out being shown that often, if ever. Probably because it was 50 years out of date at the time.

You kids. Lorre is in Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon, plus a zillion crappy B movies that pop up every October. We will never be rid of him, even though his best monster is in German (the pedo murderer in Fritz Lang's M).

There's only one challenger to Lorre and he's finally fading out. I'll bet you never heard if Jimmy Durante. I'll bet you can't sing any of his songs. I'll bet you don't know any of his fifty illusion catchphrases. I'll bet you don't know he is the basis for Big Spike in Tom & Jerry and the proboscis monkey in the Powerpuff movie.
