I AM that anon, and in addition to >>77712453, I really have liked some of the characters/ideas. Specifically Will, Brand and Stalk, so maybe you can see why I've lost patience with the book. It feels like "Narrative Contrivance: The Series" but since it has wacky/cute designs people are eating it up.
They spent half this issue rewinding to BEFORE the last page of the previous arc and the other half establishing a new status quo JUST TO DESTROY IT with a "shocking death," as if death hasn't become meaningless and ordinary in Saga.
I'm surprised the teacher didn't say something about being "a few weeks from retirement" or something else obnoxious and cliche.

But you do bring up a fair point: transwomen are always the flavor of choice, they're usually pre-op, they're usually shat upon, etc. Or they're perfect redheads with quirky personalities, a la QC. But that's fair, given we're still arguing as a society over whether transwomen are even women at all, transwomen who aren't Jenner get shat on in real life, transwomen using womens' bathrooms is a real life argument, etc. I'd say it fits right in with Saga's overall history of people who break outside the mold getting fucked over by the universe.

What that means is going to mean to different things for different people.
For me, the short version is would character who is X still be an interesting character as not X to anyone who isn't only interested in them because they're X.
To use Claire from Questionable Content, I'd say she WAS this before she started dating Marten. Her character was "Nerd who did bad puns" now she's become "Perfect girlfriend who ads literally nothing unless it's one of the comics talking about being trans and we can't have her be bullied like everyone else in the cast because now it'd be transphobic even though we were doing it right up until she was revealed to be trans".
If I had to pick a good trans character off the top of my head that has been revealed to be trans in their material, my first thought is Braga from Rat Queens. She's a brutal as fuck orc warrior who fled from her royal heritage because, while she is brutal as fuck, she wanted that to not be her people's only thing. Also, she's trans because she just is because that happens. Maybe they'll talk about more later, but for now it's just a minor detail.

Actually I think the point of this scene was that the wings do treat her nicely or at least as a woman in contrast to the moonies that treat her as a pariah, it's to illustrate that even though the moonies in this situation are the oppressed party the wings are not necessarily evil because the war is not black and white and neither side is all good or all bad.
