The problem /co/ has gotten itself into is that by shitting constantly on legitimately terrible artists like Liefeld with overly simplistic arguments like "anatomy, lol" people then either try to troll or genuinely apply those same simplistic arguments they've heard to other artists as well.
The major problem with that is that you can quite easily apply "anatomy lol" to a lot of very well regarded comics artists, but it isn't particularly relevant because they aren't TRYING to draw photo-realistically. Nobody says "anatomy, lol" about Asterix and Obelix, for instance. Miller's art is heavily stylized, and always has been. It's fine to not like something but matters of taste aren't objective fact, but I guess we're destined to argue as though they are forever.

I was thinking about this. Initially, I was horrified at the art. Then saddened at the fall of a comics great.
Then I realized Miller's not interested in detail or anatomy. He's trying to convey the essence, the guts of the character.
What was that drawing ages ago that had the representations of nerves in the hands and face, done as if a person was as big as the concentration of nerves felt? Homunculus?
Miller's trying to do something like that, but trying to show intent instead of anatomy. The intent of Batman crouched to spring, the intent of the dangerous fists, ready to mete out bludgeoning justice, the intent of the focused will behind it asll. The intent of the frail old man Batman has become, who won't give up, no matter what.
Did Miller get it right? I don't know. But he's always been more of an experimental artist than lifelike, always been more expressionist than realist.
I think he's still trying new things, even now, even when he, himself, has become a sick old man. He's still trying to push himself, the way he has his entire career, his intent to try new things, to keep moving forward, crouched to spring, ready to express himself in new ways, despite his body not letting him.

I will say this is my least favorite of the three drawings he released recently. The problem is it's drawn from a full side view, which makes it look off. If you look at the placement he's should be shifting his torso towards us to make it work with the legs.
Also I don't like that he's still drawing batman in the style he used for Holy Terror, I don't think it really works for Batman, especially the short cape.
