Both Jedi and Sith were basically the opposite far extremes of the same Force. Sith were too busy being backstabbing lolevil fucks while Jedi were too busy with being uptight stoic prudes sworn to lifetime celibacy, and those who were in the middle were shunned by both sides.
I wonder if Episode 7 will address this issue with Luke's new Jedi Order or we'll just get more "Jedi good, Sith evil" bullshit.

Obi-Wan's rage only got him as far as partially disabling Maul's weapon, and then almost got him killed when he got dunked in that pit. It was only when he cleared his mind and started thinking clever did he pull himself out of the pit and win.

Well in that case thank God that Lucas no longer calls the shots and there may be room for experimentation.
