Yeah, I do it the same way. I think I may have picked up the habit (ha!) from my brother, who in turn picked it up from my mother. Both of them crack their knuckles in the same way. I've been asked to stop by my friends/classmates numerous times now because I just sort of subconsciously slide my thumb over each of my fingers in sequential order. I don't know why I have such an urge to do it - hell, I don't even want to say that I really "do it" myself, because it seems to be almost entirely my subconscious doing it. I put no thought whatsoever into the action, it just happens.
Use to flick my fingers on to my palm to make a cracking like sound to psych people out. Wish I remember how I did that now.

I live in Minneapolis and know people exactly like this. They're some weird bridge between hipsters and punks, usually from upper middle class or upper class families. They play at being poor or down and out, drink Hamm's or Black Label, and fucking suck to be around. They're literally all talk.
