Not even the rose tinted lens of nostalgia can make me appreciate this fucking abomination. In fact, I don't think I've ever met a single person with anything positive to say about the show.

However, credit where it's due, Nigel is fucking based, and the fact that Tim Curry and Flea (the bass guitarist for Red Hot Chili Peppers) were main VAs is still incredible to me.

I love how The Tick had an episode where the supervillain is a giant-brained kid who lives in an utterly normal american suburb, with normal-ass parents, and his sister is just another cute girl voiced by debi derryberry who seems to think villainy is just a fun game (it brought the dog back as a robot so whatever, she's down for it). just hearing her voice lent authenticity to the whole setting.
>>
>>77670284
8. and yeah i wonder.. did louie ever pick up on how much she liked him?
louie's little brother was SO greg from over the garden wall too. and he was also kinda taz's little brother... who was ALSO debi derryberry. jesus the 90s.

>>
>>77667489
I always hated this show as a kid. Partially because I always disliked how inept the original Inspector Gadget was, but making a child version of him was so stupid.

Whenever it came on, the only reason I might keep it on in the background was because of Spidra. She got me feeling weird. Sometimes I'd have dreams where she'd catch me. That's all she'd do. She'd grab me with her arms, look at me hatefully, and just hold me there. All while the Aladdin III, King of Thieves soundtrack played in the background

Yes, this and Sym-bionic Titan are two shows that /co/ overrates only because they weren't comedy that tried to be "mature" and were cancelled because of toy sales which means they were obviously great.

Sym-bionic Titan was incredibly dull and plodding, there was nothing at all to pump you up and the robot design is legitimately one of the worst giant robot designs ever conceived. All garbage shit for a super robot series. The long silence and low key nature punctuated by brief, intense action worked well for Samurai Jack because that's how the inspirations for it (Kurosawa and other samurai films) were but for a super robot show it lacked any sense of bombast.

Young Justice was just complete shit. None of the characters were good. The plot sucked. Every episode was just "good guys win but villains steeple their hands because that was all part of the plan" shit; it was like Weisman was trying to parody himself. They took Miss Martian, one of the few bright spots from the last 10 years or so of Teen Titans and completely mangled her, turning into an unlikable cunt.

>>77670431
I didn't know that was a show
>>
>>77681260
yeahhh that's the one thing almost unique to bobby's world.. it had no fucking idea what it was doing
and it was on for like ten fucking years
sometimes it was just goofarounds, sometimes it felt like any run of the mill animated sitcom cept a tad cleaner, sometimes it was the uber squeakycleaniest of educational-ass shows.. and on more than one occasion you wondered what the fuck an episode was even about.
I watched some of them on 'Kabillion' a year or four back, and the thing that struck me as the most odd is the long stretches of absolute SILENCE. no background music, no dialogue.. or total silence in between dialogue.. it was weird
>>

I remember those.
They also tackled some odd subjects. Another one springing to mind was the one where Bobby's dad got laid off, and Bobby imagined that it was a work promotion where he just got to work from home, then he was confused as to why his dad looked so depressed.

Christ I haven't watched Bobby's World in literally twenty years and it's all kind of flooding back.

I'll certainly allow it. I was surprised when generals popped up after stumbling onto an episode. I thought it was such generic trash that /co/ wouldn't give it a second glance.

Evidently I was wrong.
>>
>>77681400
all i know is when i was a kid, i was in it primarily for the offbeat songs (animals don't wear underpants, is it love or is it gas, etc) and secondarily for the wacky shit like socks in a can and trout on a stick. Anything with a slight TheTick-ish flavor to it tickled me in the 90s.
it just occurred to me that whoever else besides mandel was writing for this cartoon, if they got together with dan and swampy, we'd quite possibly have the greatest cartoon ever made. Then again they're old now and who knows if they're any good. like evidently the main writer of The Garfield Show is the same guy that made Garfield and Friends so good, except... clearly it's not any good. He has lost his touch.. which is understandable, but depressing.

I fucking loved these. Blow it out your ass, OP.
>>
The two shows I've watched recently that I loved as a kid and don't think stand up at ALL (other than Bobby's World) are the animated Beetlejuice and Inspector Gadget. They are both just ugly shows with nothing but a constant stream of hackneyed puns and repeated jokes. Plus, I have NO idea why Beetlejuice decided Lydia was now going to be an optimistic little ray of little girl sunshine. It doesn't play well off Beetlejuice at all, especially since they made him a lot less snarky and more of a doof to appeal to kids.

>>77680282

And yeah, Wild Thornberrys. I loved it as a kid but Good Lord, there is so little to like about it as an adult. Nigel is fantastic, Darwin is okay in that cliche neurotic character way, but the adventure feels stale and most characters are just fucking terrible assholes, especially Eliza. Looking back, Debbie is honestly 10 times the human Eliza is, because at least she is just an apathetic teenager, not a selfish, manipulative, ignorant little twat.

>>
>>77690818

Not OP but "loved" and "love" are very different things with childhood cartoons. There are quite a few shows I loved as a kid that simply do NOT stand up as an adult. I'm >>77691003 so as I said Bobby's World, Wild Thornberrys, Beetlejuice, and Inspector Gadget are some of those (to me). It says nothing about what we LOVED and THOUGHT but what we DON'T enjoy now as an adult.

For some it might just be cynicism of adulthood, but I dunno. I still love early Rugrats, Rocko's Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, Hey Arnold, Doug, Animaniacs, Ed Edd and Eddy, Dexter's Lab, Courage the Cowardly Dog, etc. Hell, some I like even more as an adult (Hey Arnold being a big one). Nostalgia goggles are awesome but sometimes even they can't keep the mediocrity of life at bay, man.
>>
>>77690778
that's not wondy? huh, now that you mention it..
looks small for barda though
>>
>>77691003
the real question is why bother making it 'child friendly' (soccermom friendly) when it wont work anyway. we were all forbidden to watch it
>>
>>77663783
anybody else really really hated Bobby's world growing up? It was on all the time, and the toys kept showing up at burger king. All I wanted to do was strangle the lil shit, only later did I discover it was his voice actor who made me rage so hard.
>>
>>77691148
Nah, the outfit is a dead giveaway. But I agree, Barda isn't looking very BIG in that page.
>>
>>77691167

I'm guessing you're talking about Beetlejuice? Yeah, watching it as an adult I really don't understand why they even bothered. I had very little restriction with TV and movies as a kid because my Dad and I had the whole "fiction talk" when I was really young, because damned if he wasn't going to watch R rated movies just because I was around. So I watched the movie a lot as a kid, loved it, and I guess being young and desperate for more Beetlejuice watched it a lot. Now it is just a really confusing and milquetoast project.
>>
>>77691394
when i was a kid i was kind of a wet blanket. i lumped a lot of that shit together as just 'edgy for the sake of edgy' and looked down on kids who bragged about watching gory movies
as if we hadnt all seen robocop and terminator and total recall and such, and been fine. it was nothing special, it was just whenever mom had a blind spot in her nagging, which was often.
but yeah i snubbed DOOM and such thinking it was just edgelordery, and found beetlejuice boring.. but i don't think i saw the actual movie til years later
>>
>>77691563

I just always thought it was normal to be able to watch things with violence and swearing and gross-out humor, so I never bragged. I just watched and enjoyed whatever and then once in a while a teenager or adult would be like "Wait, you let him watch that?" when I would mention something in passing.
