Her second trigger most likely happened inside the locker my dude. The thing at the end wasn't really a trigger. my personal favorite is probably ballistic's its pretty useful or maybe number mans

was anyone else a bit disappointed that bonesaw dropped her overly cheerful mad scientist shtick after she left the nine?

Was there something in the story that any of you thought made no sense? or was just plain stupid?

I love the chapter where he was introduced.

I really disliked when the series went cosmic at the end. Prior to that when it was just cute girl digging herself deeper and deeper into a hole I was much more entertained.

Also, Bitch was moe.

Skitter and Probably Panacea. Though Chevalier takes the cake in terms of cool.

Why were Armsmaster and Dragon so cute together?
>>
>>77654848
because Colin was a broken piece of shit with an Oedipus complex and dragon was a caring mother
>>
>>77654821
It was ok, yeah. There are actually quite a few good fanfics, but they all have the problem where some people are horribly out of character, or Taylor bounces from "I want to be a superhero!" to "Let's kill all the supervillians!" almost immediately. Cenotaph had that problem, too.

Also, everyone and their fucking mother starts with the bullying and locker. It's so obnoxious it's not even funny, people forget that Wildbow actually had plot and some character developement before having it brought up, and Taylor never obsessed over it even while she was being bullied.
>>
>>77654402
I loved it because the entire story escalated at a near perfect rate.

Is there any chance of a sequel? I finished this like a month ago and I've never read a web series with so many good characters.

>>77653718
Panacea and Bonesaw definitely.
>>
>>77655296
I could be wrong, but I think he said he wanted to do a sequel. If he does, it won't be for some time since he's writing Twig right now (which isn't as good as Worm, but is still pretty good).
>>
>>77655296
yeah Wildbow said that when he finishes with his current story Twig, he had plans to come back and work on a sequel to worm. I also heard that the reason the Sleeper escaped was to act as somewhat of a sequel hook.
>>
>>77655296
worm 2 has been planned and will start once wildbow finishes twig which is his latest web serial. wildbow also made pact after worm so you can check those out. Twig is ongoing but is apparently really good.
>>
>>77655367
that sleeper thing seems sketch like wildbow doesn't usually do things like that. and sleeper didn't get away he was just reading and taylor didn't grab him coz he wasn't worth the trouble whatever that means
>>
>>77655432
I remember reading that the reason taylor let him go was that his power made him almost impossible to control. Plus we know absolutely nothing about what his power(s) is/are just that he was considered just as much a threat as Nilbog and the other S-class threats. Plus since we know so little about him, it would make sense if he was the main antagonist, if not a normal antagonist.
>>
>>77655613
Well what we know about sleeper is that he "subsumed" one of the dimensions that was opened, zeta i think?. The choice of using subsume is probably important as well. We also know that when taylor came across him all that was said that he wasn't worth the trouble of using.
>>
>>77654974
I would say that the fanfic A Cloudy Path is pretty good. Sure its a crossover with Supreme Commander but fortunately it doesn't involve her building tanks or anything, mainly infantry level equipment based on tech from the game (mainly the Aeon faction). Plus it's one of the few worm fics that is in-depth and descriptive with lots of divergences from canon that make sense.
>>
I really with this serial had art.
>>
>>77655728
I can't help but think that with a name like the 'The Sleeper' and the fact that he subsumed and earth, that his power is the fact that his power makes him some kind of viral intelligence like Eve from Parasite Eve or something similar.
>>
>>77653638
Worm is the reason we needed a /capeshit/ board. Worm doesn't technically belong anywhere, and it's absolutely worth discussing.

Funny enough, I originally liked Eidolon solely because he was the most broken character in the series.

>Three Powers out of a roulette of nigh-unlimited choices.
>Keep Increasing in Strength
>Instantaneously Switchable.

Then it was revealed/implied that David (Eidolon)'s powers came from:

The entity that crash landed on Earth (Eden). Or rather the Shard Eden received from the Third Entity - Abaddon

Then I read Interlude 27 and I could not be more interested in the early history of the character.

I personally don't know what to feel about Glaistig Uaine though.

It shouldn't take long. However the part you hate is kinda the cornerstone of Worm.

At it's core, Worm is a story about a girl who's been through some shit, and takes measures to slowly overcome her flaws ans weaknesses.

A fair word of warning though - It ALWAYS gets worse.

Noelle - Oh God I'm crying again.

Question to all who would like to answer. Who is your favorite cape in the story and why?
Mine would have to be Narwhal for two reasons. One, She's Canadian (I think). 2, I genuinely believe the reason her costume made up of her own forcefields and nothing else is because she's an exhibitionist and likes to show herself off.

>>
The one thing that sort of spoiled Worm for me was when Coil was trying to murder Taylor, shoots her once and says, "oh, she's bulletproof I guess" and doesn't even try for a doubletap.

The whole thing seemed like it was set up at Coil's expense just to give her a chance.
>>
>>77653925
People say this, but I still don't understand.

If the locker was her second trigger and gave her the ability to control insects, what was her first trigger and what was the power that she got?
>>
>>77656600
I did look it up, but being the Idiot that I am, I put spaces to separate the the spoiler tags from the sentence, thus the spoiler didn't work.
>>
>>77653718
Skitter, but that might just be because we got to so fully explore her powers.

I wish we got to see more of Number Man or Contessa just to see the crazy shit they could pull off.
>>
>>77656629
First and second was inside the locker.
>>
>>77656629
Her first power was probably the ability to either control them or access their senses, then the second trigger which happened straight after was the other one of those.
>>
>>77656208
I think /co/ would definitely accept Worm if it got more exposure. The two problems it has is that it's really long and there's no art involved. Even fan-art is hard to come by.
>>
Is there any good download for the full series yet? I'm not asking for one, I'm just curious because I remember having to build a script to make ebooks form the website.
>>
>>77656655
The first trigger would be controlling the bugs and the second would be the finer control and all the other stuff like sensing through them and stuff.
>>
>>77656314
I honestly, just skimmed those parts.

Wildbow doesn't really linger on it too long, but it's just been done enough times for you get the gist of it if you just skim it.

>>77656607
To be fair, half of the Parahumans Taylor faces should be able to murder her rather easily.

It's jsut that she's "creative" with her powers.

Fun Fact: When the Leviathan fight was occurring, Wildbow actually rolled dice to see who would live and die.

Taylor nearly lost the dice roll.

>>77656629
Again, massive fucking spoilers to new readers.

It was explained IIRC

Her first trigger was something along the lines of multi-sensing insects in the first place. The Second trigger is what actually let her control them.

When Panacea unlocked the Administrator Shard's potency, the result was directed towards the control.

>>77656686
Potentially, but even then, Worm is more suited towards /lit/ but like others stated, they'd think it to be subpar capeshit trash - when in reality it's the most brilliant deconstruction of the capeshit genre I've ever read.
>>
>>77656629

This is sort of explained in an interlude. Some heroes double trigger all at once. The side affects of the first trigger are so bad it causes them to trigger a second time instantly. Crusade describes it as being like a double orgasm. in this case Taylor got her power, but couldn't deal with suddenly feeling the minds of a few hundred bugs in her brain and triggered again to help her deal with the information.
>>
>>77656686
Yeah, but since the majority of fan art is on DeviantArt It's a 50-50 chance that it will be good fan art and not the horribly drawn fetishy bullshit it usually is.

They're either power-wanking fests, or horrible Self-Inserts.

I didn't like how they sort of magically could counter a lot of things that were thrown at them. I don't really see how 'seeing the path to victory' means you can stop getting swarmed by bugs. In certain circumstances, the path would just be "No.", it's not like you're a reality warper.

Same with Number Man. I get that seeing math is a great power, but it just seems like that ought not to be sufficient against a really overwhelming set of odds. You just lack the physical capacity as a standard human.

True, but in most cases you'd think that with a terrible family there'd be some sort of outreach. Or her cousins would have a better relationship with her.

It just seems fairly implausible to me that she never once tried to reason her way out of the mental box she got caught in, espeically after all the shit that started going down. Being given one of the most OP healing powers on earth would certainly force you into thinking about Ethics a certain way, but she gets caught on the 'wah wah muh villain' track.

It's genuinely like reading the mental output of a ten year old. Call that shards interfering with mental processes or whatever, but fuck is it intolerable to read.

I don't think so, actually. Marquis is about as great as you can get for a villain who has access to Amy's power. The whole 'live by a code' thing would be extraordinarily helpful if she had a healthy mental state.

Hell, they probably would have just stopped being villains most of the time and made unlimited bank from Amy's services. Marquis was a lot of things, but outright dumb wasn't one of them.
>>
>>77657267
That would mix well with the theories that I've heard that Abaddon made Eden crash into earth on purpose in the hopes that the people on earth would kill her and the now weaken Zion so that he could steal their shards

In terms of Sheer Raw Destructive Power

Leviathan is technically the heaviest hitter.

Behemoth is a tank that can redirect and destroy virtually anything.

Simurgh is essentially the ultimate Tactical Surprise attack, her TK and TP are insane.

Khonsu is the epitome of BS with his reactive Teleportation. His Time Fields can also make him say "Nope" to most attacks.

Bohu is not exactly direct, but his traps are nasty as hell.

And Tohu.

Tohu is what happens when Wildbow says "Fuck It" that's all.

EoS Tohu with the Right combination can screw everyone over.

>>
Why was Phir Se and Taylor's interaction the best part of Worm, and why was Phir Se the best character in the entire novel?
>>
>>77657302
Tohu could replicate Flechette's powers, which would probably work. Especially paired with something like Kaiser or Siberian. Phir Se wouldn't be able to take on any of the Endbringers, even wielded by Tohu. He did superficial damage only.
>>
>>77657364

I've always liked that theory. I like to think that Abaddon became a cannibal entity, as to where the other two became symbiotic
>>
>>77657364

There's certainly some meat to the theory that Abaddon gave Eden the shard knowing it would kill her. His purposes are a bit unclear, though it is rational to assume he might be a predator of some sort. We don't know enough about the Entities to make too many assumptions.
>>
>>77657389
Behemoths power was energy manipulation right? I remember reading somewhere that it was dynakinesis or something, which doesn't sound right because I know the term for energy manipulation is dynamokinesis.
>>
>>77657389
I actually don't think Tohu could do that because just nesting Eidolons and GU wouldn't make sense if their powers are conferred by shards. Does Tohu just have a shard photocopier?
>>
>>77657441

I think wildbow meant dynamokinesis when he said dynakinesis, but I don't know. I like behemoth because he isn't just a tank in the sense that he can take a punch, which he can, but that even if you hit him hard enough that it would have done damage, he simply redirects into the ground.

Yes it's Dynakinesis meaning that Behemoth can redirect any form of energy.

Try and Blast him to Kingdom Come?
>He takes the Thermal and Electromagnetic Energy, redirects it.

Try punching him really hard like Alexandria or Superman?
>He takes the Kinetic energy and redirect it.

So yeah....... nothing short of Phir Se's little present would've damaged him.

Either that or an Eidolon/Glaistig Uaine Tag Team at full power.

Pic related is essentially Behemoth

I always though that all the entities acted in pairs, with one acting as the muscle (zion) and the other acting as the brain (eden), and that Abaddon was some member of their species that went rouge and consumed its counterpart. And then decided that it like cannibalism so it kept on going.
>>
>>77657556
Yeah. I think the Kyushu and Newfoundland attacks had the highest Endbringer casualties of all the attacks. Maybe Behemoth's New York debut would have matched up.

We have no idea what the Entities as a species do, or if they even are a species. We know that they seem to be giant amalgamations of Shards (that use some sort of mass for the shards to adhere to) with some underlying intelligence that may or may not be an aggregate of the shards they contain.

Their society or anything like it is entirely opaque. We know what these two do, and we only suspect what Abaddon does. It might be reasonable to extrapolate out from the Zion/Eden relationship, but induction isn't really reliable in this case.
>>
>>77657547
>Wildbow can't into Sci-Fi
No shit. I still have a hard time believing the endbringer's cores are as dense as spiral galaxies/neutron stars (whatever), which is bullshit. And that Scion was able to beat them (which makes him even MORE bullshit)
>>
>>77657675

I mean, we're dealing with Ayy Lmaos who have advanced to such a degree that their science is basically magic to us.

We're talking about things that can either fuck with Time Itself, or are able to manipulate atoms in such a way as to make it seem as if time is reversing, along with breaching into other dimensions.

We've entered full 'bullshit scifi' territory by the time we learn what Scion really is.

These are Magic Aliens, bro.
>>

>>
>>77657675

The endbringers' cores are not that dense. They have that much matter to pull from to heal, held in a pocket dimension or something, but the actual cores themselves are only said to be super dense.
>>
>>77657640
I thought the story explained that the reason the entities release powers is that eventually one of the shards will mutate in such a way so as to allow them to access limitless energy so that they can feed off of this limitless energy and not have to worry about the heat death of the universe or something. But that just might be some theory I heard.
>>
>>77657757

I don't think the entities have any specific goal in mind with their research. Just "evolution" In general.
>>
>>77657640
>>77657757
The shards are the abilities that the Entities possess. They give them to humans (and other alien species) to develop the shards and have them evolve and multiply - through trigger events, cape babies and etc. The Endbringers were supposed to be the tools that forced the humans to develop their powers or otherwise face extinction. Then once the shards have been developed enough, the Entities would reabsorb them with new and improved powers, destroying the worlds they visit in the process.
>>
>>77657803

Specifically they convert the matter to energy to fuel their voyage to the next poor planet.
>>
>>77657757

I don't think it's an unreasonable theory, and the whole Avoid The End this is made explicit. But it doesn't really explain what they are or any facets beyond that we know Scion and Eden do some specific things in the course of the story, and that there's one more who may or may not have eaten his partner and as a result gained a cannibalistic urge.

I tend to think of them as scientists who are just running brute-force experimentation to optimize their research in so-and-so ways. If they had their goal, it probably died with Eden. Thus, Scion's complete loss of purpose. It would also support that there is something fundamental to the Entities that isn't merely an amalgamation of shards, elsewise Scion would have just glommed her and continued on going.

Really, there's a lot of room for interpretation. You're not going to get a straight answer unless WB himself decides he wants to lay it all out. That's unlikely, to understate it.

That's partially it.

That's the reason why Tinkers are so dangerous.

The Shards Tinkers use are recycled from the other advanced species Scion and Eden used to observe.

This is why Tinkers an come up with extremely advanced gadgets and weaponry which seem to bypass the laws of physics and thermodynamics.

It's because they're using ideas created by other races before them. And the Entities hoped they'd find them a stable, infinite power source to feed off of for eternity.
>>
>>77657803
>>77657819
Now that I think about it I wonder wildbow simply made the entities expy's of galactus with the whole consuming planets for their energy thing.
>>
>>77657866

Because it's a fairly reasonable villainous end game if you're big and powerful enough compared to the tiny species you're going to devour.
>>
>>77657866
Maybe

>>77657803
Also, the Shard's arent technically that.

They're actually Pieces of the Entities themselves hard-coded with the information gathered from other sapient beings.

With that in mind it's important to realize that the Entities can Naturally manipulate physics and thermodynamics with their "Shards" they just don't have the imagination - which was the entire reason they loaned them out to lesser beings - like humanity.
>>
>>77657866

I think Galactus definitely had some influence there. I think Lovecraft was also a big factor. They are meant to be the impossible, unearthly force, that no human, or group of humans can ever hope to comprehend, let alone defeat. Even in the end the only way the got one to die was to make it kill its self.

Eden had brains, but was just as uncreative as Zion. The only reason she could have come up with her plan for eternal conflict on earth was because of the PtV shard.

Eden was more of a planner herself. She was designed to keep their race alive in immediate circumstances.

Propagation is one of my favorite Worm Fic's because it's about what happens when:

Eden sends out a shit-ton of her shards right before her death, and they attach themselves to Taylor, making her incredibly powerful, but still hindered because of the transfer process.

Because the genre is fairly niche and reading Worm is an enormous time investment. If you really wanted it, I might suggest formulating some method of attracting readers to Worm or webserials in general. (Though, to be honest, only a few are very worth anyone's time.)

On that note, I'd suggest reading SuperPowereds. It's the campy counterpart to Worm that, despite relying overly on cliches, is actually a fabulously refreshing read after or before Worm. I like them both equally, for different reasons.

>>77658207
I had an idea about Taylor's shard basically overwriting her mind when she goes catatonic in the locker. Taylor basically says 'fuck this, I'm out' and the Shard has to assume direct control in order to not die. Because it has the capacity to pilot humans, and doesn't really risk the 'danger' of killing the host (Taylor's dead, after all) it has to adjust and try to pose as her using her rough memories.

This very robotic and inhuman Taylor goes out and tries to do what Taylor would have done, find conflict in being a hero. She meets Uber & Leet on her first night out, and shenanigans ensue as they realize something's obviously wrong. I haven't plotted it in my head beyond that, but if I was ever going to write some fanfiction, that's what it would be.

That would be one long ass fucking comic, mate. I don't even doubt a little bit that it might take off if one of the big publishing companies were to try it, but I wouldn't want to relinquish WB's power in the creative process. I doubt any of the big houses would stand for that.

>>77658379
Mind that the cliches are there, on the whole, pretty intentionally. WB likes to subvert them, but Drew plays with them in a very friendly way.

Uhh, the series actually tends to be more well thought out than it might, at first, appear. Other than that, have fun. It's a fabulous coming-of-age tale for an older crowd. It's pretty much as long as Worm, too.
>>
>>77658292
>>77658317

The idea would be that the shard would be one of higher "rank" Like Taylor's or GU. I don't know what its exact purpose would be, but It would require it to have enough individual thinking power to not just be a near mindless computer. I'm thinking it decides that since Eden is Dead and Zion is Dying, but because it still doesn't have the ability to exist purely on it's own, I sort of just latches on to some guy as the new "Entity".
>>
>>77658573

WB stated that when a Shard gains full control, you get a Tinker 12 or something, it mostly just kills the host because they lack any survival instinct. The hard would have to be something that interfaces with Human Cognition enough for it to realize that it needs to do certain things for survival, and also have some sort of endgame.

It might not actually need that last one, just having a rebellious shard leaving the folks and getting a tattoo might be funny enough.

We'd be limited to Master, Thinker, Stranger, though. Trump has been woefully overdone.

True, but Trump Powers are fun as hell to design and exploit.

What's the fun in power if you can't use it?

Because Trumps tend to fall in the "stupid OP" range of powers. Also, 'having every power' isn't nearly as fun to read as exploring the limits of one power.

The shard wouldn't actually be integrating with the host though. He's basically just tell the guy "Hey, I'm this alien computer thing. I can do so and so and you now my adopted space dad. What do captain?"
>>
>>77658705

Shards can't communicate that way, as we've seen with the Entities. Their cognition is just super alien to us, so it would be a struggle to reach any sort of complex level of understanding. They person would probably write it off as their shard giving them 'the crazies'.

One thing I never understood.
How did Eidolon make the endbringers in the first place?

He unconsciously sacrificed some of his own power to bring them into existence. Or, he unconsciously called up an ability similar to Manton's that let him permanently produce projections.

Or Magic, bitch. Ain't gotta' 'splain shit.

The entities were created by Eden to act as "chaos Engines". They were basically meant to keep the world in a constant state of conflict, like how Simurgh stopped sphere from putting humanity in space and turning him into Mannequin. Eden Died though, so the endbringer cores just sort of sat around unactivated. Eidolon's power is effectively super powered wish fulfillment, so when Eidolon started subconsciously desiring worthy opponents his power grabbed the sleeping endbringer cores and gave him worthy opponents.
