Why is it such a common trope to have the stepmom be an evil cunt that easily manipulates the dad and antagonizes the daughter at every turn? Even in modern cartoons/comicks, with modern settings, it's still very prevalent

What are some exceptions where the girl and her stepmom have a healthy and trusting relationship?
>>
In the original folk versions of the story she was actually the biological mother but the brothers Grimm changed it because they were christians and the actual PC police.

Because when many of these stories were first created it was advantageous for a woman to put hurdles before her stepchildren, as she generally wants HER children to inherit her husband's shit when he kicks it.

This doesn't apply so much in the west anymore, but it's become a staple of fiction at this point.

Can you note some modern examples that aren't "Disney 50 years ago adapting stories from centuries ago"
>>
>>77647724
People are wired to put their own offspring ahead of other children; it's the same reason parents always insist some incident at school must be the fault of someone else's son or daughter, not theirs.

Someone else had their second wife try to murder their first wife's children in CKII, I see.

Yeah, evil parents were such a big thing in folktales it even made the Grimm bros uncomfortable. Evil dads in folktales starring girls tended to rape their daughters though, like in Donkey Skins or whatever.

It seems easy for a man to abuse his family physically and emotionally through his strength and role as bread winner
A woman manipulating the family to serve her own ends was more novel.

I hear you, I'd love more positive stepmothers in media being a stepmom myself

Yup, blame the brothers Grimm.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say English isn't your native tongue.
>>
>>77648869
Wow, that's so wrong and completely out there for anyone who lives in the real world that it almost seems like trolling.

It's English, just Old English, as in "Verily I shall meet thee at the comicks shoppe so that we may peruse and make purchase of the newest parchment of 'The Man-Bat: Being the Adventures of a Rogue Knight Who Fights Uncouch Blackguards and Protects the Innocent from Undue Harm: Issue the One-Hundred and Forty-Seventh' "

Erm... Ripley?
Don't know many stories about women adopting children, actually. Step parents are mostly something children reject in fiction.
Although... Matilda! Not a second wife, but close as it gets, I think.
Most stories about good relationships with step parents are in porn, I fear.

Oh I actually wrote an essay a long time ago about this very subject. Let's see if if I recall the gist.

One influence would for example back in Germany, back in when it was Germany and was just a right mess of nations, the family model and the current social economic and political was unstable, and death was rampant. Those were common themes that affected the many folk telling these folktales which modern tropes derive from.

The step mother usually represents the outsider in a family unit, so she will always ostracize the original family member after an agent representing chaos or death tears the either idyllic or fragile stable environment. We follow the protagonists journey to either establish a new and hopefully better norm and usually overthrow and punish the usurper. I.e In certain renditions of Snow White, the Queen/Stepmother is punished with dancing in burning red hot shoes.

And even then like >>77647783 said even biological parents can't be trusted, then there are some other issues and themes in play.

Actually, it's just adding a k after a c to make your words sound and seem needlessly, and falsely, more archaic. Like Alistair Crowley's "magick."
>>
>>77651758
Um no. No it still is.
>>
>>77655798
This trope still persists because that's what it is a trope, a common story telling device that long has its origins muddled and just becomes a common idea/situation.

We also at least in the States have the common notion of family model of two parents and two kids which has never really been common outside of media. In order to disrupt that idea, you add in an outsider, the Stepmother to screw with the equilibrium and gets the story going.

You also have this daughter vs step mother fight because its a good parallel. "Who gets the right to be Daddy's main girl" and All females are bitchy so have them fight over a man. Or Lets take over the family and add imposters to overthrow the rightful heir/heiress.

Ironically enough, 99% of all good step parents/parental figures are about men taking care of children.

Like yotuba, and alvin and the chipmunks, and snow white, and fully half of all anime out there. Like holy shit nigga.
You'd thnk the opposite would be true...but it's not. It's wierd.
I can only honestly think of two..like...the chipettes and ..shit...like...uh..matilda.
That's like it.
>>
>>77655878
I thought it was adding a "th" to words you sayth.
>>
>>77655964
/b/ and /pol/, maybe, and even they mellowed a bit.
>>
>>77647724
Suffice to say, if you want something different than the ole' evil stepmom cunt you are going to have to start accepting shit like Steven Universe because that's the only way that the media is going to pick up shit that gets popularize and make more variations/copies of. Oh and other substantial creative byproducts of tumblr.
>>
>>77656003
That too. Archaisms are rarely employed well and correctly.
>>
The figure of the dad as an idiot is acceptable, can be replaced by a new better dad. The mom represents everything good in the world, she can't be replaced, anyone who would dare is considered an enemy.

Does this even happen in the real world?
>>
>>77662613
No idea but it happens in shows wherr the dad gets a new hot chick and the daughter dislike her because she is usually a gold digger.
>>
Did this slut scare the shit out of anyone else when they first watched Snow White?

This movie is rad as fuck, still gives me goosebumps to this day

There was a live-action fairytale movie some years ago about a princess that gets transported to the real world by her evil stepmother. While in there she falls in love with a guy with a daughter, eventually defeats her stepmom, and in the end she decides to stay in the realworld with the guy and the little girl, vowing to be a good stepmom.

The movie was dumb, but it was had that neat little ending.
