>everyone in comics is deathly afraid of making armor characters and thus "ripping off" Iron Man
Is there any hope for more power armor characters in comics, or are we stuck with this douchebag forever?

>Pepper and Rhodey
The both of them are just Stark's cocksleeves, so they can fuck off too.

Ask /m/. They should have a more complete answer, but you should look to manga stuff if you want power armor or mecha.

Batman is totally a power armor character. The current storyline has Jim Gordon as a replacement "Powers corporation/GCPD Batman" in Bruce's absence. His main "gimmick" is a ten foot tall bat-powersuit he's nicnamed "Rookie" :)

Also Bruce has many power suits designed for many different scenarios. Within the last year they debuted the "Hellbat" a stygian black semi-magical god like armor designed for combat on Apokolips as well as the "Justice Buster" which is something like all of Bruce's contingency plans for countering the League rolled into one machine.
>>
>>77621321
>maybe five or so examples without resorting to indieshit
How is that at all common? That's fucking nothing compared to how dirt common other types of characters are.

>>call people fucking shills for pointing out examples
/co/ IS a bunch of shills though. You people are so obsessed with recs that you automatically assume that's what everyone wants.

Batman (DKR)
Batman (Terry McGinnis)
Batman (Jim Gordon)
Steel
Hardware
The Engineer
Rocket Red
Jaime Reyes
Darkstars
All from DC.
Power armor characters besides Iron Man and Batman variants don't sell. They've been tried plenty of times.

Maybe you should make a list with characters who are actually worth a shit. The Engineer was the only one worth noting because she doesn't even use power armor.
>>
>>77621697
Making people care about new characters is one of the hardest things for the Big 2 to begin with. DC was pushing Jaime pretty hard for a little while, but his New 52 title sucked, and they basically killed what interest they had built in the character. Doing what they had going and then not shooting yourself in the foot would be a start.
>>
>>77622056

That exactly the opposite of what recs do. Recs make people feel obligated to read the title in question, and the reader will further feel obligated to give a positive review of the work in order to avoid hurting the other person's feelings. It's utterly ridiculous, but that's human nature for you.

Iron Man was a rip off of Doctor Doom. Even then, comics isn't the medium that initially popularized the concept. Starship Troopers is credited with popularizing the modern view of powered armor as we know it today.
