The Rugrats were never going to grow up to be some ultra attractive supermodel 20 somethings who donned the latest fashions and shit. You certainly have every right to draw a bunch of hot 20 somethings and claim they're the Rugrat cast and there's nothing wrong with imaging them that way.

its not a hipster thing, fan art misinterpretation is old as fuck.The problem is that since most artists don't use a similar/loyal artstyle to the source material, and would rather use their own artstyle instead, it makes the characters look odd, combine this with the "what if" scenario that will surely change their appearances since now they are older, and this creates something that barely looks like the source material, its like polishing a turd, them painting it with golden paint, you can barely notice its a turd now
