Started reading Ultimate Marvel. Is this really just the Bad-Things-Happen-To-Jerk-Versions-Of-Characters Universe? Is there anything else outside of this rec image that is worth checking out?

Ultimate Universe Thread, I guess.
>>
It's not worth it. It'll all end in pain.
>>
>>77591359
I loved the ultimate universe. I didn't like ultimatum, but it did give other writers an opportunity to do something new.
>>
>>77591359
>Ultimate Doomsday Trilogy

HORRIBLE SHIT
>>
>>77591399
I've followed New 52 Earth-2 since the beginning. I can take it.
>>
ye hickman's ultimates was also good but gets ruined by another writer eventually
honestly nothing is really worth reading after ultimatum

Really? Will still read it though because of the added incentive of Evil Reed
>>
>>77591426
>added Incentive
The only thing of Evil Reed worth reading is Hickman, because Hickman made him his own character.

The "fall" of Ultimate Reed is one of the stupides and worst written shit this side of Ultimatum
>>
Remember when the ultimate universe was suppose to be the universe that had MCU synergy.

Yeah and the ultimatum happend and everything was over
>>
>>77591359
>>77591408
Yeah, that's really the only thing wrong with that list.
>>
>>77591433
So what titles do I read for Hickman Evil Reed?
>>
>>77591448
Well that and adding Ultimate Fantastic Four Requiem, but again that seems to be for Evil Reed wank.

>>77591452
Anything by Hickman
>>
That about covers it. In fact, as someone who really enjoys Ultimate that image is being a bit generous.

I might add Ultimate Comics Captain America.

To be honest, I'm on a Fantastic Four binge. Finished recommended 616 FF stories (don't remember any Evil Reed in Hickman's run though) and currently working through their Ultimate Universe counterparts.

Suddenly interested in Evil Reed and the universe as a whole.
>>
>>77591476
>You Fag!
And you think you are not?
>>
>>77591492
The read UFF up to #53.
If you want more read Fialkov's 6 issue relaunch from 2 years back.

Don't read any "transition to evil reed" shit. because that's what it is. Complete shit.
Hickman does Evil reed in his Ultimates and Avengers run.
>>

The best of the best, huh?
>>
>>77591506
Neat. Thanks, anon!
>>
>>77591513
Fialkov's relaunch has some terrible art, but the writing is on point and he understands the UFF

>Is this really just the Bad-Things-Happen-To-Jerk-Versions-Of-Characters Universe?
Yes, that is the biggest problem for me.
This series was suposed to introduce new readers to the MU, but any potential new readers would come out with an extremely warped and negative view of them.
It's why I think people that recomend the Ultimates to readers interested by the movies are misguided. They won't wanna see Cannibal Hulk, Evil traitor Black Widow, Jingoistic Captain America, Hippie Thor or Wife-beater Pym.
Same with X-Men.

There's a reason the only things from the Ultimate Universe to influence the movies are aesthetic in nature
>>
>>77591555
An addendum: this doesn't apply to Ultimate Spider-Man. It's the only book I feel reimagines Spider-Man well for new readers without breaking the core of the characters
>>
>>77591359
Ultimate Avengers is the most Millar thing Millar has written for Marvel. It has some of the most of the wall crazy shit going on and while not "good" is certainly enjoyable
>>
>>77591555
>They don't want to see Hippie Thor
What the fuck are you even saying?
>>
>>77591613
Ultimates 2 definitely beats it out
>Star wars references for no reason
>hard to follow moral ambiguity

Ultimates 2 has
>Hippie Thor is literally Jesus
>>
Is Ultimate X-Men worth checking out?
>>
>>77591683
Depends.
Everything up until Kirkman is at least readable on some level.
>>
>>77591535
He hates that kind of capes now.
>>
>>77591700
That's just Millar being an opportunistic shithead
>>
>>77591555
>Jingoistic Captain America, Hippie Thor or Wife-beater Pym.
But the 616 versions were already like that!
>>
>>77591619
People who like the movies aren't gonna be interested in Hippie Thor
>>
>>77591722
It's better than MCU Thor though

Ultimate Comics X-men

on the other hand the x-men villain came off as really likeable guys.
The worst thing the Blob did was pretend to be a girl in internet to troll guys, and pyro was a shy and adorable qtπ
>>
>>77592291
Blob also ate someone alive. That's kind of fucked up, man.
>>

specifically Beast who then gives up X-Men secrets to him
>>
>>77592291
Yeah, it's weird that they made the villains more likeable (except Magneto, who was somehow even worse than Silver Age Magneto) while making the X-Men be unlikeable assholes
>>
>>77593960
To spite Fox, maybe?
>>
>>77594015
Ultimate X-Men was done years before the whole Marvel Studios vs Fox conflict was even a pipe dream.
If you're gonna buy into conspiracies, don't go overboard and claim they existed for longer than it would even be plausible
>>
>>77591441
>Remember when the ultimate universe was suppose to be the universe that had MCU synergy.
That was never specifically the case.
You realize Sam Jackson Fury happened BECAUSE of the Ultimate Universe, not the other way around?
MCU has always been way more 616 than Ultimate, for the most part.
I do wish they'd gone the Ultimate Thor route for the movies. That would have been cool.
Ultimate Thor is best Thor.
>>
>>77591359
Ultimate Captain Marvel has the coolest fucking design. It's the perfect modernization of the Kree solider uniforms and looks rad as fuck.
Whatever ended up happening to Rick James/Nova anyway?
>>
>>77594062
But Fox already had the rights, m'boy.

Yeah, but at that point Marvel had no plans to make their own movies. In fact, in those days they actually went out of their way to imitate the Fox movies
>>

>>
>>77594152
If you ask me, I think Marvel regretted selling the movie rights to Spidey and the X-Men from day one.
>>
>>77594071
I think what he means is that the Ultimate Universe was intended by Bill Jemas and co to be stories that would interest movie studios and be easier to adapt since they're modernized.
They obviously failed miserably in that regard, because aside for some costumes, Hawkeye's family and Black Nick Fury, the Ultimate Universe had pretty much no influence on any movie whatsoever.
>>
>>77591359
You can't understand the ultimate universe without understanding the time period (early Bush presidency) it was made for. Things like the Ultimates being aggressive neocons, the government crackdown on mutants, the military control of the FF, only make sense in that light.

Exactly how bad was Marvel in 1999 that this average run saved the company?
>>
Do they ever explain how Hawkeye stopped being an edgelord and went back to his original costume?
>>
Best things of Ultimate Universe are first Spider-Man, Fantastic Four and X-Men titles (Ultimate X-Men is occasionally going from shit to good and to shit again), some of Ultimate TeamUps, Ultimate Elektra books, all post-Ultimatum X-Nation stuff and Avengers (the one, which had Punisher, Hawkeye and WarMachine in). Vampire arc is also ok (forgot its name. Probably another Avengers/Ultimates title).
Everything else is on different levels of shit.
>>
>>77596321
He just did.
Just like how Loki suddenly stopped being evil just in time for his death.
>>
>>77598641
All stuff with Evil Reed is also good.
>>
>>77598641
And Ultimates 1 and 12
>>
>>77594196
That's because the Ultimate writers failed to consider that there's a difference between "modernizing" characters and making them assholes
