I don't know any desu. Might be that some make some pocket money with it, but making decent sums with your webcomic is kinda... I wouldn't say "impossible", but you're better off not expecting it. If you're an artist and want some cash, do commissions on tumblr.
>>
>>77577953
Pocket money is still money anon.
>>
>>77577953
It is possible to make a living off a webcomic, it's just so statistically unlikely it's safe to say you never will. A few examples of people that do exist, though the only one that comes to mind at the moment is Andrew Hussie. And that's after spending YEARS not making much money at all.
>>
>>77578694
Tons of dudes make their living off of webcomics, way more than ever before. All you have to do, depending on where you live, is clear $1000-$1500 profit every month which when taking ads, Patreon/donation revenue and merch revenue into account (especially if you do cons), is not that hard for anybody who runs a fairly popular webcomic for a few years.
>>
>>77579109
just remember that's 850 after taxes
after writing the government a 450 dollar check every 3 months you might rethink the profitability of making 1000 a month

still i'd love that. i wish i was popular..
>>
>>77579198
I was talking discretionary income, not disposable income senpai.
>>
>>77579225
what?
>>
>>77579225
>>77579244
wait wait
A) discretionary income is the same as disposable income
B) you were talking about making 1000 AFTER paying your bills? jesus, good luck with that. I've never had more than 1000 a -year- in leftover income after bills.
>>
>>77579275
>discretionary income is the same as disposable income
False. Disposable income is income after taxes only, discretionary income is after all necessary costs of living have been paid.

I got my terms mixed up in my previous post and I meant that I was talking about disposable income and not pure income.
>>
>>77579109
>>77578694

1500*12 = 18k

In the U.S the poverty line is 35K. That's 17k/yr less than poverty. You're talking roomate + beans and rice money for just patreon income. You could certainly cut back to a part time job.

I don't know anything about ad and con income.

You need to be making 3k-4k to "make your living."

It's still a pretty small income considering the time invested, and the fact that there's no benefits and no job security.

Something like Starbucks or a big chain grocers, which give good benefits, would be a great complement to a solidly popular webcomic.

Bullshit. If you make 35K a year, and you're living in poverty, you're doing something horribly wrong.

The only way that could be true is if we're talking about like a family or something.
>>
I wonder where is Dustin?

I was about comment about his comic.
>>
>>77579319
disposable income is income after all bills are paid, that's why it's called that. it may have been a misnomer at some point but now 100 percent of people use it that way
in any case though we now know what you meant and holy shit if you can make that much.. jesus tapdancing christ. you could put yourself through college on 1000 extra a month
>>
>>77579472
poverty line is defined a bit differently in different places, but it's typically 13k - 17k a year dude
but he was talking about making 12k a year in pure gravy after bills are paid. that's nuts.
>>
>>77579614
i fuckin love me some dancing girls. you have some talent there good chum. what's the comic about?
>>
>>77579756

12k/yr in disposable income would be great for anybody. Just imagine 250 dollars a week to fuck around with. You could probably eat out for every meal.

And yeah, you're right that it is defined differently in different places, but 18k is not a lot of money anywhere.
>>
>>77575025
ha yeah that was a great video. when i was a kid, my dad stockpiled a bunch of these old "international combat arms" magazines thatvwere essentially huge fear-mongering catalogs of cold war tech. that really fostered my interest of weapons in that era, and inevitably ended up as a theme id like to touch upon in the comic. (post war border tensions with plenty of clandestine OPER8ING)

one of the central characters, joe, is based off 80s-90s delta operators. a lot of his appearance and gear (rail-less sig 220s, car15s with fixed carry handles etc.) are designed to reflect that.
>>
>>77579773
http://vigormortis.co.uk/

This bit (the next page) is actually a flashback.
>>
>>77579873
seriously. i dont know anyone who has that much extra a month.. because if you make that much more, you start living more expensively. so I guess maybe 'bills' can include luxuries and thus have different definitions of disposable or discretionary, but.. yeah.
i can live quite comfortably on 18k though as long as i dont owe any additional money.. but i do. goddamn student loans, punitive tax rate for self-employed, and rather minor but still extant medical bills. and that was in a place with super high rent, if i got down to 500 a month in rent i could live on 15k easily.
>>
>>77579885
oh it's you, neato.
>>
>>77579756

I have 35k take home after bills, but I rarely have time to mess with my comic, at times... wish I could make comics full time...
>>
>>77580108
that is the other problem. if you work full time and have any kind of commute you will never have free time, not to spend with family (or finding dates to eventually start a family) let alone any hobbies. not unless you're one of those lucky bastards who can get by on a lot less sleep. but artists often need even more than usual, i know i do
>>
>>77580135

I drive semis, I can usually work on my stuff 2 to 3 hrs a day, and then I try to get about 10 to 20 hra. Done on the weekends when I am back home, but, see, if i decide to not come back home on weekends, my pay can go from 53k to 65k usually, plus benefits, BUT! It kills me daily, that I cant work on my art, although. .., story wise, I can get some mileage down for that as I voice record all my sweet ideas when im on the road, but its the art part that I want to do too. Doing trucking btw to save to get into SCAD so I can get a job in art... so I can better pursue my dreams and hobbies
>>
>>77580271

Namely web-comics...
>>
>>77580271
oof. not to mention what constant sitting does to your body.
that's pretty good muns though guy. if i could drive i might do half as many hours as you and make half the money and count myself lucky
>>
>>77580335

Yeah, it can really suck to have to sit around driving for about 8 to 10 hrs daily, but its stupidly easy and relatively stress free, as long as you are laid back about any problems, but its hard to maintain your weight sitting all day, I try to workout everyday to every other day, squats, pushups, crunches, etc. and eating healthy can get rough too, but I drink V8s and eat bananas for breakfast and snack on jerky and bananas and water for the rest of the day, I try my hardest to calorie count too. But back on track, I can make about 60 on commissions, and I could pop out 2 to 3 daily which could potentially make me 180 daily, which isnt too bad.
>>
>>77580488
yeah if you can find 3 people a day willing to do those big commissions.. actually if you can do a 60 dollar commission in a few hours that's damn impressive

Stats time!

What a reversal! The Deviants comic is still going fairly strong (highest view count is 1,195 in a day) but only surges when the artist announces an update on her FB page. Meanwhile Super Sexy is getting up there, especially today, despite the artist not announcing the updates. Looks like the /ss/ comic might reign supreme soon enough.

>>77576020

Considering I pay to get my art done, I can't say I'm anywhere near to making money but this is an investment that is slowly getting there.

I got an affiliate program with Hub Traffic and post up hentai videos weekly. It's only been two weeks and I got 5 cents so far which is promising when I get better and more content to post.

Project Wonderful is helping out in two ways in which I am advertising and getting a nice chunk of people, 131 clicks over the past 15 hours. And I have three ads on my website and have made 1 cent these past 15 hours. But this is just the beginning, I can't wait to see how things will be in a month. And this website has only been active for a month and a half now.

Background art for first panel of a comic I'm working on. Comfy or not comfy? I want this to be a silly, comfy comic that's not too challenging in the art department. Basically something to do to build experience.
>>
>>77581202

Looks good and simple. It's surprising how much backgrounds don't matter when the emphasis isn't on it.

For example Scandi's comic needs great background because the whole thing is visually impressive, other comics don't need to.

>>

>comfy or not comfy
it looks roughly halfway between warm-and-comfy and grim-and-foreboding. mainly the light levels and color tones, this is very dull. if you want it to be comfier, you could warm it up a bit. richer orangey browns and brighter yellowier greens.. maybe some light shining through..
also it's pretty sterile, rocks, no shrubs, no extraneous branches..
i'll say this though, it's very CLEAN and neat, and that's hard for backgrounds. this is very appropriate for a comic.
>>
>>77581312
there's an image nobody needs
funerals are always so damn grim and bummery and awful in fiction.. i've only been to one, and it was basically just a little brief meeting at a church, a eulogy, a hymn or two, and then down to the basement for lots and lots of eating. appropriate since my relationship with the deceased was 'step-grandson who fucking loved her food' and i inherited an apple pie from her

Are we posting stats now? Here's mine, showing that the trend of growth is continuing. On the left, the chart on the top is bandwidth usage per month. My comic launched in September. Underneath that on the left is the data for this month so far per day. I tend to only look at bandwidth used to indicate how many people are viewing my comic. The statistic for today isn't complete and I expect it to be slightly lower than yesterday's in bandwidth usage, as is typical of the Wednesday/Thursday slump you can see from the previous weeks of this month. On the right is a big list of all the countries that I've received visitors from. A rule of thumb is if the bandwidth usage is under 2mb it's likely that no real people from that country have visited my site. There are several slightly below 2mb with a small number of hits, indicating it could be one single person in that country who went to the homepage and then left.

Hopefully I can maintain this upward trend by both providing a comic that people like and not missing any updates. I did a bit of advertising through PW and overall I'm happy with the number of clicks I got to my site through that, I'll probably do a 4chan banner eventually. Anyone here had any success with advertising on 4chan?
>>
>>77581513
Well the wake is next week's update.
And Scott was the victim of a shape-shifting disemboweling Satanist. You never really walk away from it pretty.

Of course that's just Orea's sight. Everyone else thinks it was an okay service, and they'd complain about the spring sunlight getting blocked out by clouds; but frankly getting a corpse out of the morgue so soon after the grisly murder was cause enough to be happy it got buried at all.

Funeral's generally are bummey and awful in fiction. But we're just here for the one scene, so we figured to make it count.
>>
>>77581417
It's extremely flat, both from the absence of shading and the lack of overlapping. Color choice is poor and makes the scene look drab. The random patches of grass look downright childish.
>>
>>77581202

The structure and composition are there, the execution just feels a bit rushed.

Like it's totally fine you want this to be an art-lite project, but then the challenge comes out in the layouts. Getting the most amount of story with the least amount of art.

Because, needless to say, the sudden grey behind all those trees is sorta off-putting. Like, if that's a stone wall, add some cobblestones, try and give everything a light bit of mark-making to add depth. You've got it on the ground, which is nice, but not following through throughout the piece really highlights the fact it's not there.

So with these sorts of depth-of-field shots, the farther you go in the distance, try adding a curve to it. Like a gradual change in the forest path, or some buildings on the horizon. Ideally, we don't see the vanishing point, but we can make a vague approximation of where it oughta be.

And color-wise, you're working a lot in the same value. Like, if you were to greyscale this image, it'd probably be hard to read as all the tones would be almost identical. So try and just have 1-2 midtone colors, a light, and a dark per scene. Especially if it's art-lite, using a limited palette will cut down time like nobody's business.

And sidenote, it looks like you're shading with black, which, sorta flattens everything out a bit. Old-school-wisdom says to always shade with the opposite color of the lightsource. Sun's yellow, shade with purple. Stuff like that. Really adds a real cohesion to it all.
>>
>>77581513
> i've only been to one, and it was basically just a little brief meeting at a church, a eulogy, a hymn or two, and then down to the basement for lots and lots of eating.

That's not how most funerals go. At least not the ones I went to.

>>

>>77581737
This is some good feedback, thanks guys.

Would it be a better option to color in that gray with green or sky blue? I was trying to convey a sense of the depth of the forest without having to draw every tree. I see what you mean about the color pallet though, definitely will brighten it up.

I can't believe I forgot about the shading in color thing though! I've learned that before, I just seem to forget it every time.

The childishness is sort of on purpose. Tis a silly comic.

How polarizing is lesbianism as a prevalent motif for the average person? By "average person" I don't mean you average 4channer or your average Tumblr user, I mean the average person. My potential comic wouldn't steer to romance/drama/yuri too hard but I fear it might be a bad move toward how viewership grows and what people expect from me moving forward.

What do you mean by "prevalent motif?" If you're defining a character by their sexuality then in my opinion you're doing a pretty shit job with them.

I second the endless scrolling comment.

>>77583135
This looks great. I have such a terrible handles of limited palettes, I'm really digging this.

>>77583679
It all boils down on how that lesbianism plays in the story. If the story is not about the love between two women, you're barely going to bring it up, and I don't think its perception is going to be too different between regular Joes and people who looks for that stuff.

It would help you greatly to be open about it in its summary. My own comic is about a guy who has trouble figuring out his sexual orientation, but I made very clear when I began that it wasn't going to be yaoi, even though I may sail those waters, it's not what the story is about.

Here's the update for next Monday, I'm gonna use my weekend to try and make a little bit of buffer, I can't afford more delays for this chapter.
As always, I welcome any feedback on stuff I may be missing.

Okay, round two. Still refining it a lot and putting shading into some areas, but nearly done. I replaced the gray with a sky blue gradient, decided against making it late in the day.

Definitely an improvement. The only concern that really jumps out at me is that you wanted it to be sorta easy-to-draw. And while all the pretty gradients and shading makes a better end product, dedicating all your work time to backgrounds might drain you.

Next time, try something like this. Limited palette, no rendering, desaturates as it goes back, simple, and reads easy.

BATTLE CITY!

A superhero comic(I know, I know) where almost all of the adult heroes and villains mysteriously disappeared two years prior. Since then the city has been overrun by countless gangs of teenage superthugs. And riding herd over them all? The ruthless MWT("Mean White Trash"), former sidekick to Lady Nightfall(think Robin).

As if that wasn't bad enough, the mafia has carved out their own piece of territory. Worst of all, some of the most rotten and vile of the old villains are still around. The police are doing all they can and the Federal government has practically abandoned the city entirely.

Before he turned evil, MWT was leader of "The Keen Teen Team"(all of these names are subject to change. The series is fairly tongue in cheek but I don't want to go overboard), most of whom are still around. Stunning Alien princess Nike has become a pop star and supermodel. Robot Lad has become a cold, emotionless tech mogul, his trillion dollar companies keeping the city on the bleeding edge of tech even as the morale of its beleaguered citizenry grows weaker and weaker. Shadow Lass has written a tell-all book about her time as Nightfall Lady's other protege and is working the talk show circuit. And no one's seen Kid Mighty for over a year.

But that's just the background. The real story begins when an eager young boy hops off the train...

He calls himself 'Luminous'(though he'll come to be known as 'Glowbug', much to his chagrin), and he has the amazing ability to... glow in the dark. He escaped from his orphanage with a backpack full of worn action figures and hopped a train to the city of heroes. His plan is simple: To prove to everyone that the age of the superhero is far from over, that goodness and decency and justice still have a fighting chance in the brutalized streets of Battle City.

It's not long at all before the enthusiastic and optimistic little naif finds himself getting into all kinds of trouble. Luckily, he's not alone...

Rattlesnake Sarah blows into town like a tornado. She's not Battle City's first magic cowgirl, but she's definitely the most dangerous. Months prior, she had a vision. A vision that she would be called upon to find and protect a young boy who would become a beacon of hope to a dying city.

But she's not Glowbug's only defender...

The numerous teen supergangs treat the city like their own playground. They indulge themselves in vandalism, protection rackets, rioting and outright crime in broad daylight. But all have on thing in common: They know to steer clear of JUNIOR.

A lifelong resident, little is known of this gentle giant, other than to stay out of his way and not to piss him off. And like Sarah, he soon finds himself keeping watch over our little glowing protagonist.

But they do. Where I live, funerals are usually conducted 4-7 days after death, after most people have cried their eyes out already. There will be a sob or two when the coffin is brought into the grave, but nothing drastic. And after that there indeed is lots of eating, and while it doesn't exactly look like a party, it's nowhere near grim and depressing.

And here we have the last sketch. I'd love any feedback, especially on the more cartoony depictions of the characters. I'm torn between trying to emulate that old school classic Jack Kirby feel or just going full blown cartoon style.
>>
>>77586118
oh so you haven't decided on a style yet? that explains a lot. my main comment was 'holy crap this style is all OVER the place'
i definitely like the more realistic styles better. stuff like >>77585970 and >>77586044 shows so much skill and imagination and variation, i mean look at >>77585899 .. those teeth! fantastic. , while stuff like the top-right of >>77585854 or to a lesser extent >>77586005 seems a lot more prefab... like.. you know those dumb collectible dolls like nendoroids and minimates and whatnot, where they just paint the likeness of a character over a standard shape body? they're so boring and rigid.. or like flash cartoons that use move around the basic sprites and never redraw them
then in the styles like >>77585751 it's not so much bad as it is.. eyes too close together.
>>
>>77586206

That's some awesome feedback, thank you so much, and for the compliments! The ones you liked are the newer pieces so I seem to be leaning more towards that more realistic style, but I'm also kind of mad obsessed with trying pull off something more cartoony ('Long Gone Gulch' being a good example), but desu even though it's not super grimdark that might be too light for 'Battle City'.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment!
>>
>>77585400

He is turning full tails tonight!
>>
>>77582810
I was preparing a longer comment for you, but your first chapter sucks. The same way you don't care about drawing quality, the same way any potential readers won't care about your comic after looking at your first chapter, likely not even all of it. Recompose and redraw all of it. Note that I don't mention rewriting because I couldn't stomach actually reading the whole thing so I wouldn't know how it fares in this regard.
>>
>>77586370
I'm not saying you can't alter the tone, by all means. you can even alter the detail
but don't let yourself use simpler designs and then start drawing them boringly, if you have it in you to do otherwise. after all, this is a comic. you're not recycling the art, and since you have to redraw the characters every single panel, why not have a little more FUN with it? it doesn't take any longer to draw a complex and unique face shape than it does to draw a square face, right? not once you have the hang of it.. and it doesn't take any longer to do these wonderful eyes that have genuine depth to them when seen at 3/4ths angles than it does to draw little glue-on googly eyes. for YOU anyway. For lesser people they have no choice. But yeah, you can do those things at whatever tone you wish
>>
>>77586460
Can you give me a longer critique?
>>
>>77586460

Wow, you're a total cock. If all you can do is shit on someone's efforts then don't fucking post anything at all, dickbag.

>>77582810

I think this is very creative and has a decent amount of potential, but yeah, you need to tighten up that art. The good news is it seems like you have the skill to illustrate your story, you're just being laaaaaazy! So stop being lazy and put in the effort!

Also there are more than a few typos. Come on, you've had access to spellcheck your entire life most likely. Don't be afraid to use it.
>>
>>77586628
Oh, I did, but I don't see anything. I just want a more specific critique so I can know what to work on. I really don't have an editor or anything so...
>>
>>77586688

Okay specifically. First off you're pretty good at drawing actual people. Keep practicing and keep studying but the fundamentals are definitely there. Your're not making back choices in your shots either, such as in the early scene where the couple is getting busy in bed. The closeups of her lips and the eye works to convey intimacy, though it would have been nice to have had some kind of establishing shot of the bedroom beforehand instead of that jarring transition.

The bedroom is where it all falls apart, as it did in the previous shot of the hallway. Your rendering on backgrounds and objects is very, very sloppy. There's no other word. The perspective is off as well. It looks very bad to be brutally honest, lots of scribbling which is unacceptable.

Also, look up '180 degree rule' and see how you broke it in the scene where she flying kicks the guard. This stuff is important, so study film language.

So you've got some strengths and you've got some weakness. Your strengths are solid but your weaknesses are absolutely sinking your work. But you've got ability and skill and it would be a shame if you didn't follow up. So study hard and keep at it!
>>
>>77586688
in fairness, sometimes when there's more wrong than right, it's hard to convince yourself to put in the effort to give detailed feedback
but what you can't really do is expect someone to listen to that kind of critique. best to select something you consider to be basic and intrinsic to the process and make THAT your suggestion. In the end if they need to start over, that will still be clear by your suggestion, but it'll be more palatable
>>
>>77586589

You're making me blush, and you've pretty much convinced me to lean more towards the less cartoony side of things, or at least not too overboard. Thanks again for the feedback.
>>
>>77586868

>>77586883
well, I don't mind the bad critiques, because they help me to improve on my comic. This is my first comic, so I would like for there to be a person I could talk to who could lead me in the direct way on my comic, because I really want it to be successful. I'm in the discordia chat if anyone is willing to help me understand and figure out what I'm doing wrong, so I can improve my weaknesses. That's why I'm posting it to 4chan to begin with, because I know anonymously, you guys will be very honest and though it hurts, it's something necessary for me to improve.
>>
>>77586960
funny thing is, those bits i liked, in my book they ARE pretty cartoony. but cartoony done right (which cartoons typically don't, because budget). it's still not my favorite kinda art at all, but you do it well. I feel like the bits that make it good could be applied to any style and probably improve it a bit.
also it's pretty clear you did some studying, so you've earned a bit of positivity. i'm only just learning those bits.
>>
>>77586971
i would say that you seem to be more of a painter than a comic-er at the moment. i'd like to see you kinda start over at sketches and plan and plot things out, and show us how you do that. since obviously you have no trouble with the finishing touches
>>
>>77587062
Yeah, I will, but I would just like for one person to explain everything I did wrong. EVERYTHING. I'm frustrated too. I understand the art sucks, but I'm just staring at the comic from a one man perspective and basically I'm a retard. People telling me "it sucks" isn't enough, because I'm an idiot. If anyone would be willing to chat with me about it, I'd appreciate that a lot, if not, then oh well
>>
>>77587198
i think the problem is that while it clearly sucks, it also rocks pretty hard. I mean LOOK at it.. those could be portraits of real people, albeit tweaked slightly from reality (nosebridges not following the middle of a face, top of head and ears perhaps at a different plane than the rest of the face, etc). in the face of that it's hard to make suggestions. i recall going through similar problems with carrion girls guy

OK, let's start with taking a look at http://webcarrot.org/webcomic/curveball/ch1/page4.jpg - tell me, do you not see anything bad about it? What do you even need the colors for? Later pages, even if not good themselves, still look better just because you stopped coloring them.

The lineart is ugly, stretching the definition of bare minimum. Colors and later shades go way off their boundaries like it's a problem to spend more than 1 minute on them. If the best looking stuff in your comic are pre-defined effects from Manga Studio, you know things aren't going very well.

The composition leaves a lot of unused, wasted space. See page 8 or page 17 for examples. What's the point of using fancy action lines or whatever that manga stuff is called if you have square miles of white background untainted by any content all around your movement sequences? All of the dynamic that wasn't already lost by horrible lineart quality* is gone with this.

"Oh but I can't draw very well so the outcome can't be much better". No. Go read later chapters of One Punch Man, the original, not Murata's version. The art is at around your level, but the composition is miles ahead of yours. If you feel insulted by comparison and think you are better, it's about time to start spending more than 5 minutes drawing each page.

Can't say much about writing, the first chapter is the super generic "MC does her undercover mission" stuff. It's been done to death but it still works as an introduction; don't expect people to be particularly hooked on it though.

So what's left? Good points? I don't see many. I guess an assassin using baseball pitches is a novelty, though the lengthy windup along with shouting the name of technique doesn't work very well with the stealthy nature of the trade. Oh, and the scrolling layout is neat, it saves time when reading, though opinions on this vary.

In the end I find >>77583007 comment strangely fitting. Learn from this failure and do better in the future.
>>
>>77587342
I'm not insulted at all. I'm actually really grateful for your criticism. Can we exchange contact information, so I can figure out and learn how to improve from my mistake? It would actually mean the world to me

Seconding this: what the hell do you mean by "lesbianism as a prevalent motif." Do you mean your comic is about lesbians?

You really shouldn't be cynically tailoring your comic and future career to an imaginary potential readership to begin with. You're lucky to get much attention at all doing something earnest, that interests you, at your full effort. Do you really think a comic with major stuff cut out of it because it might offend people will appeal? You're probably not a good enough writer + artist to create stuff to demand like that. I might be wrong. Are you an experienced screenwriter or something? Shit, you're lucky to even finish a full webcomic. Really feels like you're getting ahead of yourself.

Just go make your lesbians comic. If you're worried about it, do it under a psuedonym. But really if it's good enough, you should be proud to put your name on it and you should trust the right people to care about your work moving forward from it.
>>
>>77587962
> You really shouldn't be cynically tailoring your comic and future career to an imaginary potential readership to begin with. You're lucky to get much attention at all doing something earnest, that interests you, at your full effort.
To be honest the insincere, tailored, targeted stuff makes a lot more money than earnest, authentic work about 100% of the time.
>>
>>77588023

Can you demonstrate your point with concrete examples?

Most of the stuff I see that is supposedly "tailored and targeted" is actually lovingly and well crafted genre work - like how It's Always Sunny and Friends are lovingly and painstakingly made sitcomcs - or it is earnest work made by people who are dumb in just the right way, at the right place, at the right time.

The only straight up pandery stuff I see working is porn.
>>
>>77588065
>Can you demonstrate your point with concrete examples?
Are you really asking this question?

Questionable Content, there you go. Now try explaining how it's lovingly and well crafted work and not just a throwaway for 10K+ per month. Go ahead.
>>
>>77588178

QC wasn't pandering for the first five years at least, and those were the golden years for starting a webcomic. It's done cynically now, or just reflexively, but it falls into the second category of dumb at the right time.

What this analysis is missing is that most webcomickers also have ads on their site and sell some form of merch, which all represent additional revenue streams. I know the creator of Sam & Fuzzy makes a living off of his comic even though he makes far less than $1k/month from his Patreon. He was making a living off of it before Patreon, the Patreon to him is just an additional revenue stream (a strategy I think all people who seek to make a living off of comics should mirror).

I just had a tipping point and we definitely crossed it. I don't care if we've been worse. It's that we've been a certain level of bad rather consistently for a long time.

>>
>>77595564

Your hands are still too big. You need to shrink them in order to give the character some balance. They're also really lacking in structure and feel too flat compared to the rest of the character.

>>
>>77595564

Shoulder seem too pointy, as do a lot of other featurea, simply smooth them out, hands, simply draw from life, put your left hand in a certain position, sketch with your right, change left hand position with different perspective and position, wash, rinse, repeat, similar with legs, the perspectives and proportions are off, draw from life, use a mirror and a stool, try to position your legs in different ways, sketch, change, repeat, or, lookour up sports magazines online and draw athletes in motion, usually swimmers, gymnasts, runners, etc., or look up nude models, but that can get distracting.
>>
>>77596302

Then apply what you learned from life drawing and apply it too your toons, it makes the work worth it in the long run, but your faces are improving nicely, tey to draw them from other perspectives than jusr 3/4 turn to challenge yourself, try from behind, side, top, looking up from bottom, these will also improve your reference sheets in the future

Honestly, I think there are far too few really good fantasy webcomics that just tell a good story, cliché or not. Everyone always worries about being completely original and trying to deconstruct the genre they want to write in, but there seem to be very few people that actually embrace generic, but very well executed fantasy.

Guns are really really nice objects, despite the whole 'murder' thing.
Killing people has kinda ruined guns' reputation for slinging bits of lead very quickly

It's really interesting looking at this, especially the bottom middle picture, because it shows off your style, when really not too long ago you didn't have a proper style, your art was just really crappy drawings. It's pretty remarkable how much you've improved.

I haven't gone into the /aco/ thread, I thought it was silly, but then again, I don't have much Rule 34 of my comic. Of course, my other comics (not Will Draw for Food) have fappable characters, but they're young, so anything I make would technically file under pedophelia, and thats not something I want on my plate.

Anyways, /aco/ is still young, whether you post in it or not will ultimately decide its fate on /aco/.

Alright no bullshit I'm thinking about making a comic about

> A boy that falls in love with a girl then through some deus ex machina

My though was since I just want to improve on the mechanical parts of making a comic, getting dialog that doesn't suck ass, paneling and all that the concept can be unimportant. And the premise is pretty standard for a romantic comic.

what do you guys think?

Sorry, if I shared or saw anything lucrative in catering to your fetish, I'd do it.

Now, /ss/, that's something I can get behind.

>>77605073

It's surprisingly lax in terms of what artists have drawn. In most cases I doubt anybody would ever bother to dredge up anything like that. Or otherwise a lot of artists would be out of work.
>>
>>77605180
Well I mean you have a comic called "Super Sexy" it's not too much of a stretch that you could work that in, maybe not as a major point but at least as a little thing.
>>
>>77605180
That's fair enough. I'll have to think it over. Maybe if someone requests something.
>>
>>77605228

Well it started off as being a Teen Titans knock off where five teens with powers just literally fuck around in their tower. With the /ss/ angle being so popular, I see this as an opportunity to focus on that. I don't see much competition for it. Now it's going to be more like Fantastic Four where Cameron, the shota, is the Reed Richards and every other member is a female that takes turns on him.

>>77605244

Go the anime route and make some kind of distinction. "They're actually 1,000 years old" or "they just look young but are actually legal age." I'm using that last one myself.

Genzoman works for Udon and he's drawn loli and Fuu getting fucked by a squirrel. And Zone is a member of a video game company (that isn't doing fanservice or porn to promote their game, literally the dumbest thing ever and now I'm mad).

Thanks, chief. Your stuff is looking aces as usual. Dig the character illustrations you've got up on your blog. You could probably put together a nice sketchbook pdf to sell at some point. I sort of like the necropunk hellscape thing you're doing, and you've got a good balance of mythologies that you seem to be handling in a way that makes me curious.

>>77605755
You could always find another job that doesn't destroy your brain. It will probably not pay as well, but it might require less effort and strain which could increase your quality of content by reduction of stress, increasing your chance of "making it big."

>>77605111
>No bullshit.
If you are being serious, which given the copypasta usually associated with this, and the things you want to improve on being so generic---I guess, it depends on why you want to make a romance. What you're pitching, that boiled down, is literally every single romantic comedy ever made. Boy falls for girl due to writer's hand and the three act structure.

Find a love story that interests you. Something unique. A man falls back in love with a woman after a home invasion ends in tragedy. A woman falls in lust with a man after hearing his ramblings after being drugged in the dentist's chair. A boy falls in love with a girl and both cope with how young hormonal desires might prevent this from being something that'll ever last; and look at the divorce rates in America, and our home lives, and we're so young do we really even want to be a couple when masturbation and drugs can get us the chemical thrill of it all without any chafing?

But sort of assuming copypaste meme bullshit. If for some reason that's not the case, I do hope you wow me. I'm a junkie for a romantic comedy, but they all fall apart in that third act.
>>
>>77606003
the actual story of said phonepasta is a good story. which is why it's a fanfic.
>>
>>77604612
dude, your art is less than mediocre. It's clear in your comic, and it's clear in those scratchy ass sketches. Are you serious though? You think you're a good enough artist that you can post those half assed sketches and expect me to go "Oh wow yeah, we have an experienced artist here."

You're delusional. Go practice and have some self awareness.

What do you mean by this? Writing the script? Composing the pages? Or actually putting down lines after you've planned it all out?
>>
>>77609123
Composing the page I suppose I have the most trouble with. I'll do it then re-do it again and again because I always think it's not good enough yet.
>>
>>77609139
That's fine. I recommend you thoroughly plot it out to the end before you start drawing, otherwise your pacing will suffer. Also be extra very careful with your first couple pages, since that's what either makes or breaks a potential reader. Feel free to do thumbnails for, say, the middle of your comic and revisit the start occasionally if you don't want to stress about it so much all at once.

The comment was about your comic, and it's actually a harsh but true criticism.

This is a three panel joke comic - one of the most common and tested webcomic formats - with literally no backgrounds or shading. Do you really think this comic is entertaining and moreso inspired? Maybe lightly entertaining. Some of your jokes are good but everything could be so much better if your actually put effort into the comic.

umm.. okay so you're having trouble actually assembling a comic.. wellll.. here's an idea: adapt a page or three's worth of scenery from an episode of a tv show you like. maybe some old 90s goodness, batman or summat. in the process of adapting the animation you'll get a better handle on how to plot out a page.

Thanks man. That's really nice to hear. I posted a pretty much finished page 1 ages ago back here and my style has shifted a lot since then.
>>
>>77609780
I'm assuming this is the new art. Her pose looks unnatural. Try emulating it, right shoulder up, away from table, left arm up and left hand bent 90 degrees just to fondle hair-- it feels bad and looks bad. Her left eye is also looking bad, I don't know how you missed that. The rest is good. I think you should reconsider the jar with the heart in it. Those wide corks look silly, but the way it overlaps the other jar and her chair makes it look oddly opaque when it's clearly not. Perspective looks okay. The two scrolls on the bottom shelf look very flat and stick out like sore thumbs.
>>
>>77609947
Yeah that's the old art. I'm probably going to redo the whole thing. I agree her pose is really off. I was struggling with a lot in this panel and I think it shows. Hopefully the second attempt at it will come off more natural. I think the whole thing just looks very stiff.
>>
>>77609780
ohhhh yeahhh it's ringing bells now. as i recall, i thought it was fantastic but a few people pointed out some perspective errors in the background.
>>77609947
man i know i have trouble with side-ish poses and shoulders a lot too. . but i think the issue with the eye is that the downstage eye's lower lid is raised while the upstage eye's lower lid isn't, but both have upper lids lowered.. and from that angle that looks weird, but i don't think it's actually wrong.
there really are jars with big-ass corks like that, i've seen em.
