That art itself isn't terrible it's just bland and generic. Its flaw is ugly character design, not ugly art. Squirrel Girl's art has consistently terrifying faces and anatomy.

More recently, Marvel also did a "What The Duck" variant month to parody DC's "WTF Month" of fold-out covers that had happened a good two years prior. They also announced "Secret Wars Too" only a month or two after "Multiversity Too" was announced. Both are significantly less of dick moves, but they're still petty.

Are comics even returnable anymore? Because judging by the longboxes at my local LCS, they either aren't returnable or nobody bothers to return them.
Also, I found the second time that Marvel tried it. It was for unsold "Flashpoint" tie-in comics, and it was for a variant cover of "Fear Itself" #6 by Ed McGuinness.
Pic related; it's the "Siege" #3 Deadpool variant for which retailers could trade in "Blackest Night" issues. It went on to sell for ~$400; looking on eBay right now shows the cover selling for ~$1000 now. Someone did the math and it would have cost a retailer ~$500 for the variant itself, seeing as you had to trade in 50 copies of "Blackest Night" books.
I dunno what the details were for the "Fear Itself" cover.

Diamond distributed comics, with very few exceptions, are non-returnable.
The only exception that comes to mind is Jupiter's Legacy #1, which Millar said would be returnable, to larger orders from retailers

What books are returnable are up to the whims of the publishers, but there's a few every month.
They're kinda getting into the habit of making #1's returnable to drive sales up.
