the Kick-Ass movie got me into reading comics
>>
I want to make short stories inspired by west african folklore and everything /co/ I've read and watched in my life.

Except my teachers fell in love with a parody of the bible I made last year, and now they want me to do that. I refused in favor of my favorite project and their argument went like this

>Don't you see? We could have God be an alcoholic asshole who curses and messes up all the time (my version of him had him with anger issues, but the teachers like very vulgar stuff)

>This is more adult. The thing you want to do is for children

>what do you mean teens and adults read books with these themes? (horror, magic, monsters, robots...) Are they retarded?

I settled to their proposition of doing half of both, and now the teacher most invested showed his true color :

>I can write the jokes for you, Anon !
>he writes a very vulgar and graphic strip about Adam running around with an erect penis, trying to fuck Eve as God watches and is mad

I'm starting to feel like I'm arguing with edgy teens who never went beyond sex jokes and consider anything else to be too kiddy and uninteresting.

I can't believe I'm about to try and convince a 50 something narration teacher that his story needs more thought.

My ringtone is a chiptune cover of "giant woman" from Steven Universe.

Korra's forth season was the best.

The Last Airbender is cool but pretty overrated.

The League of Extraordinay Gentlemen movie was enjoyable.

I liked Age of Ultron better than the first avengers.

Landis is my favorite comic writer right now.

I didn't understand "A Serious House on Serious Earth". It went way over my head.

Changing the race of a character dosent make me angry.

When I was in middle school I was obsessed with westaboo Happy Tree Friends and South Park art.
>>
I wish /co/ would stop pretending to care about Wonder Woman and completely stop talking about her. Just straight up, cold turkey, never another mention ever again.

Illustration course.

The course in itself is fine. We've just reached the point where the teachers get really annoying because...well...they're old, and old fashioned. One got mad at the mention of digital books instead of paper.

In my case, they just got so interested in the bible stuff that they overlooked the other one. It became a case of them wanting me to do it because it's consistent with their tastes.

The only teacher who was hype about the short stories with magic and such was the youngest one, new to the team, who has a Star Wars screen saver, and is more up to date with the internet, comics and technology.

He even came up to me saying "I heard you were dropping your short stories? That's too bad." I explained that, no. I wasn't dropping them at all. They're just pushing me into it. I explained what they wanted me to do and he rolled his eyes saying "yeah. They do like vulgar and nasty jokes a lot".

That was before I accepted to compromise, and now I can see how vulgar the teachers can get.

The Falcon/Ant-Man fight in Ant-Man is my favorite big screen superfight since Otto/Spidey in Spider-man 2.

I haven't seen a Pixar film since Finding Nemo.

The Wolverine and The X-Men cartoon was fantastic.

I like Crossed AND Unfunnies. I like Brandon Graham's porno comics. I like Ignacio Noe as much as I like Richard Corben or Moebius. Cerebus is one of my favorite comics ever, and I have more respect for Alan Moore than maybe any other comic book writer. I also have Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and Wicked + Divine on my pull list. The idea of "too edgy" or "too silly" or "too liberal" or "too rapey" or whatever just baffles me in a medium where literally anything is possible and NOTHING EXISTS.

>Bendis good
I know what you mean. Peak Bendis was around Daredevil/Alias to me. Maybe it was just the environment it was being released in, but his Marvel Knights and MAX work from the early 00's is great stuff.

>>77574245
>The League of Extraordinay Gentlemen movie was enjoyable.
I prefer both the Burton movies AND the Schumacher movies to the Nolan Bat-movies. There are some moments with Poison Ivy in Batman and Robin that transcend to legitimately good camp.
>>
Flex Mentallo is my favorite comic book of all time. I read it when I was in a bad state of mind, and it helped me a lot

Geoff Johns and Grant Morrison are the worst things to have happened to Green Lantern and Batman, respectively. Not because of the content of their stories, but the fan reactions toward them, disregarding everything that's come before and after.

>It's good that homosexuality is starting to be addressed upon in children's cartoons. I really hope that it leads to gay children not feeling as isolated and miserable as many are. That doesn't mean I want characters where it's their only defining feature, but I don't want gay children to feel like outcasts. For the same reason that there should be more autistic characters in cartoons, to teach kids about what they or their peers are going through. Would have saved me so much bother in school.

>Cartoons have probably never been as good as now, and even then, since we can access old cartoons any time we like, stuff like "I wish it was still the 90s" is retarded.

>There is literally nothing wrong with CalArts' style

>The Pines twins' relationship in Gravity Falls is the best sibling relationship I've ever read in fiction.

>I never read comics.
>>

>Cartoons have probably never been as good as now, and even then, since we can access old cartoons any time we like, stuff like "I wish it was still the 90s" is retarded.
The people who use this argument are either nostalgiafags who don't actually want to watch it again and break their perfect image, or people genuinely interested in the shows but too dumb and who can't into Internet.
>>
>>77574844
I'm really amazed by the people who can't use the Internet. It's like an evolutionary thing. They just don't have the genes.

South Park's MO for political commentary to split an issue into two extreme groups and then stand in the middle and say, "No, you're BOTH wrong" like that's supposed to cut deep or something.

I am here for just a year, but on this time I have seem /co/ get worse and worse, with obvious bait threads and shitpost....and /tv/ memes, that are frankly terrible.

Seriously, who is the person who thinks that using a random phrase coming from a cartoon is a good way to start a thread?

Also, why people here are such whiny babies that spent more time talking about things that they hate than trying to promote good stuff and good artists?

Pic very much related.

Legend of Korra was a good series.

Hulk and the Agents of SMASH had an interesting concept.

Man, as an artist and the original creator, dont be affraid to say to your teacher to fuck off, if he dont like he can do his own stuff.

Say "I know what I like to writte, and I know that there is a public for it, which you obviously dont because of lack of knowldge regarding what you teach."

Your idea about african folklore seems super originl and interesting, dont do a edgy fest cliche if you dont want to.

Wakfu is the single most overrated show I've ever seen and I really wish /co/ stopped treating it like some holy grail better than the rest of both western and eastern animation industry together. The plot's between formulaic and bad (Nox's story was touching, yeah, but it's the same shit as every sympathetic supervillain ever, nice designs helps I guess) and the further you progress into it, the worse it gets. It keeps praised because oh muh waifus and the die-hard fans are all pretty cringe-worthy, even by /co/ die-hard cartoon fans.
>>
>>77574462
>The Falcon/Ant-Man fight in Ant-Man is my favorite big screen superfight since Otto/Spidey in Spider-man 2

I have no problem with this. The fight felt real and it showcased them both using their powers appropriately. Compare that to the avengers movies wheres they just take turns punching each other with jump cuts making it look like something is happening.
>>
>>77574473
Flex Mentallo and Morrison's version of Robotman helped me in hard times too

Also, I think it's ok to retire b-list and lower characters in superhero stuff after a while. Give their stories a closure after a decade or two, create new ones, rinse and repeat. As long as the industry would be able to enforce standards regarding writing quality, it'd be a pretty fantastic situation, I'd say.

I'm actually happy the Gerard Way Doom Patrol pitch went to nowhere, it'd be up there with Byrne and the luckily also rejected Lobdell one as a contender for the worst one.

Pollack's DP run would've been better if the editorial didn't force Cliff into it, she sucked at writing him
>>
>>77575319
Yes. I now have to explain to him that he's being way too vulgar for me.

The thing is I don't want to come off as condescending or arrogant by telling him that his story of Adam doing a doggystyle is edgy.

We could make a joke about how Adam was the one who first came up to God and said "wasn't me !" when they ate the fruit. That stuff actually is in the bible and could make for some nice gags.
>>
Moonbeam City is great but I don't know why /co/ jerks off its visual aesthetic and " muh love letter to the 80s" so hard

Preggo Spiderwoman was average, not godawfully-hilarious as /co/ thought it would be

While animation has changed I feel like 3/4 of the people who doomsay about this being the second dark age of animation are either shitposters or weebs from manga forums

Speaking of weebs it kind of irks me that RWBY is so popular in Japan that it got a legit dub and manga because of all western things to finally break through to the Japs, it was a Western waifu show rife with clipping done by 1 decent animator (now dead) and 7 amateur ones

I dislike the recent increase in Dave Willis discussion threads (DoA, Shortpacked, Walky) really shouldn't exist on /co/ because I fear that it'll soon become an "ironic" general like QC threads did

Threads where people take comments from tumblr should be banned on sight because it's not comics or cartoon discussion and it becomes nothing more of a thread of gossip about how awful the website is.
>>
Tumblr is trying to ruin comics and many of them don't read comics, this pisses me off so much.

Brian Michael Bendis was good at one point, his Ultimate Spider-Man and Daredevil are still good, but now, he's shit.

Wall-E is my favorite Pixar movie.

My OTP is FitzSimmons (I'm still annoyed at the dumb love triangle).

I love Jack Kirby's work, but I've always found his storytelling to be a little hamfisted and his male faces to be off (his female faces look great though, some remind me of Hedy Lamarr).

Johns' JSA, Morrison's Doom Patrol and Miller's Daredevil are my three favorite comic runs

I used to like the Reeve Superman movies until the pre-release whining about MOS turned me off them.

That the whiners turned out to be right is beside the point; I went back and rewatched the old ones with a hypercritical eye and noticed shit like Jor-El brainwashing Clark to become Superman. Then I couldn't like Returns either because it follows that.

Now I don't like any Superman films.

It's a common opinion that Wakfu is overrated and the threads - like all generals, to be fair - are circlejerks, that was a radical take on it but it's true to some degree.
>>
>>77578006
I really don't care about his opinion about Wakfu. I just want to thank him for the new copypasta.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is the single most overrated show I've ever seen and I really wish /co/ stopped treating it like some holy grail better than the rest of both western and eastern animation industry together. Jimmy Olsen is my favourite comics character.

The four greatest pioneers in the comics medium are Jack Kirby, Will Eisner, Ozamu Tezuka and Moebius (in my opinion).

I've enjoyed everything the MCU has put out so far.

Me and my girlfriend ship FitzSimmons (I don't think it helps that I'm Scottish and she's English).

I've done roleplay sex, I was Batman, she was Talia.

The 80s and 90s were the best eras of comics.

The Amazing World of Gumball is the funniest cartoon on TV at the moment.

We3 is my favourite comic story.
>>
>>77573937
I've been working on a cartoon for months but I've never written a single word or drawn a single picture of it. I just have the entire plot memorized and I'm scared that nothing's going to fucking happen and I'm just going to slowly forget about it.

I would start writing it up right now but I don't want to put anything definitive because I don't want to fuck it up.
>>
Alias is a shit book.
Maybe it was good at the time for pushing boundaries, but it's really terrible to read nowadays.

Under the Red Hood is shit and Judd Winick is post son's death Loeb-tier of a bad writer

Gravity Falls is terrible.

Arrow/Daredevil/Winter Soldier all have mediocre fight choreography and the fact that /co/ jizzes over it is baffling

Aeon Flux, The Maxx and The Head are the best western animated series

Wonder Showzen, while ten times edgier than South Park is also at times ten times more clever.

Pride of Baghdad and We3 are some of the worst and preachiest comics I've read.

Kirkman is an all-around bad writer. Invincible and Walking Dead were never good.

Ennis' Crossed is not as bad as people on this board like to think.
>>
>>77581486
Kirkman actually isn't well-liked around here luckily from what I know

Walking Dead did so much damage to horror comics, really. Zombie apocalypse is a boring premise to begin with and I hate that it's presented as something equally important as actual milestones in indie comics history.

Speaking of indie comics: I disagree with Dave Sim's views but I do appreciate his role in the genre's history. He really should start taking his meds though.

Byrne is a hack and a despicable human being.
>>
>>77581600
Sim was right about everything except dogs and slavery. Slavery ending was not a good thing as crime rates show.
>>
>>77581600
>Zombie apocalypse is a boring premise to begin with
So much this. It was cool in 1968, but now it's just annoying. Zombie apocalypse stuff is a cancer on horror genre unless it's creative like Babylon's Fields failed pilot or pretty much dark comedy like Army of Darkness.
