Has there ever been a better superhero reboot than John Byrne's Superman?
>>

Moore's Miracleman
>>
Yes, since it wasn't good. Trying to Marvelize Superman shaking my head, family.
>>
>>77570685
Moore's Swamp Thing.
>>
>>77570725
Was that really a reboot though?

This

Johns/Donner/Busiek Superman is still the best canon version to date.
>>
All the Post-COIE reboots were GOAT. Even Hawkman which only got chucked up because editorial didn't set it in the past. They had some of the all time best creators and worked as the definitive versions of the characters for decades. The Nu52 versions suck and have shit creators.

These.

But yeah, it was better

is that the same byrne who fucked up doom patrol
>>
>>77571027
Yeah, he was much better in the 80s and early 90s.
>>
Morrison's Doom Patrol and Animal Man
Moore's Swamp Thing

Was he still a pedo

Dysart's Harbinger is really good too.
>>
>>77571666
Sandman the superhero and Gaiman's Sandman have nothing in common except the name.
>>
>>77571792
Yes?
>>
>>77571825
So it's not really a reboot.

Eeyup.

every writer essentially reboots a character when they write him/her, because they bring their own interpretation and their own stories to the title. To that end, every new author is essentially a soft reboot.

Not true.

Giffen and Fleming's Ragman. Took a relatively mundane street level character from the 70's and made him incredible
>>
>>77571838
I'd say it's more a retcon continuation. Like Robinson's Starman. Sandman Mystery Theater, now THAT is a reboot.
>>
>>77570685
Miller's Batman: Year One is sort of a reboot even though it was only four issues and didn't completely change the present-day continuity, and that's more respected now. Byrne's Superman is very controversial to this day.

I grew up with Byrne's version of Superman, especially because it was the basis for Lois & Clark and the Superman animated series, and I like some aspects of it but other aspects of it I find weak, like making Lex Luthor into a guy who's always pretending to be a good guy. Mad Scientist Luthor is more fun and eventually he developed into a combination of classic Luthor and post-reboot Luthor.

>because a 12 year old girl developing feelings for an 18 year old is pedophilia
>writing this means he must fuck little children on the daily
i love this anti-Byrne meme
>>
>>77573733
Maybe if that were the only example, but that's just the surface of Byrne's madness.
>>
>>77573733

>Not realizing this is just the tip of the iceberg

Poor naive anon...
>>
>>77570735
Pretty much. Large parts of Clark's youth were retconned out of existence and he was brought down to a powerlevel last seen in something like 1940s, when lifting a car was something extraordinary for superman. Not much more and it would have been a re-imaging.

>>77576986
I really don't get it. I mean, sure there's a lot of cringeworthy aspects of Byrne's writing, but I also cringe at a lot about the stuff Garth Ennis writes (I think Byrne is lame and tame compared to Ennis), yet Ennis is almost never reduced to these parts of his writing.

Why?!
>>
>>77577744

Because Ennis is talented and Byrne is a pedo.

Ultimate Spider-Man by Brian Michael Bendis
>>

>he was brought down to a powerlevel last seen in something like 1940s, when lifting a car was something extraordinary for superman

Nah, he was still possibly the strongest mortal in the DCU Earth. He just had better defined limitations, to make him actually struggle, and sometimes even fail, or suffer wounds that needed healing. Which was great because it allowed for much better stories.

Ma & Pa Kent were great too, and Kingpin Luthor was fucking brilliant.
>>
>>77570725
Not a reboot, you fucking faggot.
>>
>>77578302
Yeah, copying early issues of Spider-Man and updating the setting to contemporary times sure is great.
>>
>>77578454

Might as well hve been, considering it ignored Swamp Thing becoming Alec Holland again.
