It's cliche and tries way too hard to be anime. The pacing moves like molasses. The characters seem interesting at first but quickly become one-dimensional once they fall into the same traps and character traits. Character development is non-existent. The show relies on too much crying and FEELS like a bad shonen (I'm reminded of every arc of One Piece ever) and has a worse stuck on Namek Saga right now than, well Namek. It has absolutely no direction. The gem concept has potential but they do absolutely nothing with it. It's not well thought out nor well paced, and overall lacks any real style or substance.

If we're complaining about the actual animation/art itself, again, I don't think there's anything to worry about. Compare it to 70s/80s stuff even 90s/00s and there's a lot of difference in the detail of backgrounds/art/attention to detail.

Classical animators, and even animators for "B-level movies" (What the fuck does that even mean?) have to draw everything frame by frame. The quality is inherently better by way of careful detail and attentiveness. Every bit of hair and shadow is in motion, it's undeniably superior to what you have in modern cartoons today, which is just two characters standing still while their lips move for minutes at a time.
Today's cartoons have picked up bad habits from the animes.

I would argue that we are in a better state than we were in the late 90s/early 00s. There was a strange trend of cgi cartoons back in the day, But Ugly Martians, Jimmy Neutron, etc. Most of these shows sucked major Black cock. Nick started to become the Spongebob channel. CN started drying up of new content with fresh ideas, Toonami was axed. CN's foray into live action. 2006 to 2010 was a preety dark age man. No more cgi toons, we seem to have abandoned that fad, makes me hopeful for 2D animation in the future.

While all of the shows in your picture share the common thread of being "coming of age with magical shit" they each offer something different from the other. Steven Universe is more slice of life with a mix of action, Gravity Falls is a monster of the week show with an overarching plot similar to X-Files and StarVs is a much more traditional wacky comedy parodying tropes common in fantasy and the magical girl genres.
Theatrically, although they have moved away from 2-D, animation has been ridiculously strong.

OtGW's the first western animated miniseries that I can think of, and kids liked it.
Gravity Falls and SU are odd, they're definitely not action, but when they want to tell serious stories they can do it effectively. GF does it better than SU does.
Star is basically a psuedo-action, mostly comedy show for the female demographic. It's harmless really.
Keep in mind, these shows aren't perfect. Nor are they all individual, but I'd have to say this trend started with Adventure Time, and I'm not even sure how it had such a huge impact on animation, at least children's animation. I'm just talking seriously here, guys.
