Apparently the only way he could see to make Zelda seem like a strong female character was to not only make her Link, but to make link a foppish pussy who doesn't do anything but be a damsel.
So let's recap:
Diaz's problem with the Zelda games is that he thinks Zelda is just a Damsel in Distress, and he fixes that by
1) Stripping her of any character she originally had and making her the spitting image of the male Hero
2) Taking the male hero and making him completely incompetent and unlikable
So, not only has he failed to remove the problem, as he's only shifted it from a a woman to a man, he's created new ones.

This is for mobile gaming but is also representative of other game markets, women play more casual games, men play more hardcore games.
This is the best I could do, I had seen some charts that broke down Halo, CoD and other major titles that would be considered for the hardcore demo, which is the major money maker in gaming, which showed corroborating results.
The titles that tend to have more male leads are the ones that more males play, seems fairly reasonable to me and makes perfect selling sense and many hardcore games let you make your own character so there's that.
It seems to me that the people are getting more or less what they want, I frankly see no issue with it.
I'm certain if many female gamers showed interest in these titles companies would be gladly accommodate them because it would mean so many potential sales, which they have tried to make games that target guys and girls in the past but it never seems to work out that way.
The genders seem to gravitate to different genres just like they do in film and literature.
