Finally watching
The Death Of Superman Lives: What Happened?
Hearing from more of the actual people involved... it seems like even more of a fuck up.
Also that Jon Peters is a compulsive liar, illiterate, and pretty damn delusional.
> I was a street fighter my whole life
Peters claims he wanted Batman to say "I'm Batman, motherfucker."
7edgy13me
and the whole darker "humanized" Superman we saw in Man Of Steel has its foundations in the Cage / Burton film
> these casting ideas
> and for jimmy
> and jimmy if black
Fiercest animal in the insect kingdom.
>>77522609
oh and we pretty much got that in Man Of Steel too
This is why I can't /co/ opinions on the film business seriously.
Let me give you all a hot tip: most producers are as stupid, petty and self-righteous as Jon Peters. Read any book about life inside a major studio and you'll realize they're all run by monkeys and lunatics who are purposefully haired and promoted so when a project inevitably flops no one person can be blamed due to gross incompetence.
Remember when we all had a good laugh at the Sony leaks? That's literally every major studio, they just don't have potato-quality security.
>>77522550
>>77522562
>Jennifer Anniston and Matthew Perry
shame we didnt get this
Crazy how many times they tried getting the 'Vegas suit' going.
>>77522653
with David Schwimmer as Braniac
I still want an animated version of Superman Lives. I need to see more of the insanity.
>>77522650
Yup.
Somehow Smith's description of how stupid Peters is, which I had loved listening to again and again before, just seems like the tip of the iceberg of this one idiot producer.
Of course, with Sony, it's nice to see true gender equality. Amy Pascal has proven to be as blisteringly stupid as her male counterparts at making superhero and sci fi movies.
> this teddy bear that becomes his living suit idea
> gothic art deco Superman
holy fuck
Giger knockoff Superman
what were they even thinking?!
wat
and then it'd be a glowing black suit when fully healed
and the early tests
> long hair Superman
I wonder how the capeshit landscape would have looked if this movie came out. We could very well had the beginnings of a DC cinematic universe with the foundations of a Cage Superman and Keaton Batman.
> red underwear baaaaaaad
> blue undies?
>>77522957
I don't think Keaton would have come back. Would have been a new Batman casting anyway.
>>77522766
>We get Superman. You know why? Because we're from the streets.
>>77522936
It's what he had in the 90s.
More of the costume test.
This is what that Polaroid was from.
For a while I honestly believed someone shooped it from a custom action figure.
>>77523026
In the interviews in this documentary, he keeps talking about being a fighter and being street.
>>77523063
> implying it didn't suck in the comics too
Brainiac in a cape and then revealing an inhuman spidery body is neat
>>77523082
>hating mullet Supes
>>77523107
> liking mullets

>>77522847
>>77522837
>>77522826
>>77522805
>>77522692
These are neat concepts that would be cool for an Elseworlds.
They had a Moebius and Euro comic inspired guy doing a buncha Krypton stuff.
>Jon Peters is a compulsive liar, illiterate, and pretty damn delusional.
That's par for the course as far as Hollywood producers goes
>>77523133
>These are neat concepts that would be cool for an Elseworlds.
Well.. there is this gothic art deco Superman Elseworlds.
I need to buy this and Jodoworsky's Dune.
>>77522861
Looks like a Predator ship to me. Like, if it was shown to me just on the street and not in a Superman thread I'd be all 'oh crazy Predator ship dude'
They should have fucking done Brainaic not Zod for fucking Man Of Steel. Too bad Snyder is a fucking muscle head and somehow wanted to rehash a fucking punchfest with Zod.
based skullships
There were a lot of cool concept art in this.
They kitbashed a model for it.
> Jon Peters bringing his kids to select what designs to use
This is how we fucking get Gungans and Jar Jar Binks.
> I've been in 500 fights
>>77523342
Brainiac's the key to all this. If we get him working... Because he's a funnier character than we've done before.
>>77523342
Yeah because if we got rid of the Gungans and Jar Jar Binks the prequels would be great.
> To bleed, to taste someone else's blood.
> I wanted that in these movies.
Now we know where the brutality of Man Of Steel came from.
>>77523252
Brainiac is the rumored foe for Justice League. Which is really cool and much better than if he'd be in MoS. He's sort of transcended his role as a Superman foe and become much more of a galactic threat in modern times.
>>77523379
Exactly
>>77523379
>STIDF
Who said anything about the quality of the prequals?
Lorenzo di Bonaventura sounds like kinda an ass too.
These screnwriters just get dropped like nothing.
Amazing how awful these producers come across, even with low expectations.
> Jor-El is imbued in the robot "K" and becomes Superman's suit
They were gonna do a even more dorky nerd Clark, "Silicon Valley".
Also in a Mickey Mouse shirt. Heh. Don't think Warners would approve. Probably would switch it to Bugs or Daffy.
>>77523379
I'd be better. 's all I'm saying. There are other issues, but the Gungans are a sign Lucas maybe listened to his kids too much.
Of course we all knew his ex wife helped reign him in on the original films. The prequels? He had nothing but yes-men.
>>77523586
> sci fi con dork Clark
> Superman is a beta who gets so nervous ready to propose to Lois that he shakes his leg under the table and shakes the whole building
uhhhhh
> suddenly NINJAS
> Heh, heh. Those darn ninjas. They're wacky.
mfw I just looked up Lorenzo di Bonaventura and saw he's hired Batman & Robin's Akiva Goldsman for Transformers 5
Doomsday is now more Clayface, bit Parasite looking
He even starts having faces of Lois and people Superman knows.
> Jon Peters asked him to write the current death and funeral of Princess Di into Superman's in the new script
> Development hell happens with known directors.
> That's how you end up with two years of polished a turd and then finally someone just walks away. At great cost.
heh
then came a string of Warner Brothers bombs... including two big Superhero franchises
>>77522374
And yet Peters is the only one still involved in Man of Steel. Do with that what you will.
I forgot this was the same year as Batman & Robin
I was too heartbroken after seeing that shit.
>>77523739
I can't tell if that's in poor taste or just retarded.
>>77523812
Oh yeah. At the start of the doc, he said he bought the rights. Warners didn't actually have the rights to a Superman movie, like the whole Fox and Sony debacles with Marvel. He called up one of the head Warner guys to tell them he had the rights. They didn't believe him, but checked and saw he did.
That is how fucking inept Warners is.
They accidentally forgot to keep the movie right to Superman.
>>77523824
also
Just saw this turd on AMC, American Movie Classics .
>>77522403
yeah and instead he just says
I'm Batman
so OOC
>>77523875
Desertworld
>>77523890

My family spent a weekend with John Peters and his family last year. Nutty guy.
>>77523898
Charlie Sheen gave Superman Lives AIDS
>>77523904
>My family spent a weekend with John Peters and his family last year. Nutty guy.
> Nutty guy.
That's fucking putting it likely.
How nutty? Or did you all have to sign an NDA so you can't say where he touched you?
>>77522650
well fanboys are retarded too
Suits just want to make money
Its about having an even part of both in you which is why feige is so successful
>>77523913
and once Superman Lives died, Jon Peters moved onto Wild Wild West and Warners shifted the remaining funds for Superman lives into that
>>77523945
and it only made $113 mil
you can see the recycled bits of Superman in this
>>77523977
>>77523812
Peters didn't do anything with Man of Steel. He just got executive producer credit (meaningless title) and got paid due to early adopter credit for keeping Superman alive and his work on this film and Superman Returns. Considering MoS met projections, he was paid $10-$15mil for doing nothing and actually being barred from production.

Could Burton and Cage made a decent Superman?
Eh. There are dozens and dozens of Supermen you could bring to film. Maybe it would have been better than Snyder? Maybe less muddled and you could have seen why it was darker and more alien.
I still think there is a way to do a more traditional Superman while still making him modern.
I think focusing on his alieness to 'humanize' him is a contradiction and really dumb.
You want him to be an alien that becomes a human ideal, taught the potential for kindness in humanity and who soars into that.
You shouldn't make him so alien as Edward Scissorhands or so struggling as Spider-man. He's not a typical Nic Cage character.
He's Superman. He's his own character. He's his own hero.
Waners needs to quit trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, stop trying to reinvent the wheel.
>>77523945
>>77523977
>>77523963
Oh god don't remind me.
>>77524121
We all steampunk n shit.
>>77523739
WHAT
>>77524095
Warner is fucking mad, they have a great fucking character that people like, and they try to make him other characters
>>77524164
>Warner is fucking mad, they have a great fucking character that people like, and they try to make him other characters
They wanted to make him Nic Cage in a Tim Burton film.
I know Cage has... some range to him.. but why the fuck would anyone think Superman should be that?
Of course they left out the part about Peters wanting Sean Penn because he had the look of a killer caged animal in his eyes.
Peters knows that look. He's been in over 500 fights tasting the blood of other men. You know. In the streets where he come from, senpai.
You know what?
Screw Krypton.
Screw a Kansas farm.
We need a Superman.. from the streets.
We need a Superman who's a wild animal, a Cage'd killer.
>>77524214
But I don't want to see him fly.
>>77523926
>putting it likely
>likely
>>77522975
It pretty much looks like new52 shit
Is that the one where they talk about giant spiders?
>>77524486
yep
>>77524497
Yeah that was a riot
>>77523260
Who designed these? Dr. Wily?
>>77524617
> Mega Man
> First release
> December 17, 1987
> Brainiac's Skull Ship
> First appearance
> Action Comics #544
> June, 1983
How's it living in a backwards time universe?
>>77525235
You know Dr. Wily's a fictional character and he probably wasn't seriously suggesting that a video game villain was contracted as a concept artist.
>>77523610
That actually sounds kind of funny and sweet. Lois should be able to make Clark feel like a weak human.
>>77522403
>I'm Batman motherfucker
The way he said that made me crack up
The concept ideas are fucking insane, some really cool crazy stuff there.
>>77523703
>He was going to rocket punch superman
I really, really wanna see this. Is it streaming legally on any service in North America, or do I have to torrent it?
>>77524532
>>77524486
>>77524497
I have to believe the robo-thing that Superman smashed in MoS looked vaguely arachnid to finally appease Peters. I HAVE to.
>>77524203
You know, even when I was friggin' 8-10 and I heard that Nicolas Cage was gonna play Superman, I thought that was horrendous miscasting. But, to be fair namefriend, it was mainly Nic Cage's power levels that helped to stop the runaway train of production, butting heads with Burton and Peters whenever they wanted to do something too stupid or deviated from the comics, and that is a big part of why the movie never saw the light of day.Until Man of Steel anyway, which honestly owes a lot more to the J.J. Abrams draft that was equally execrable and obsessed with Krypton.
I love that every interview scene with Peters makes Kevin Smith's story that much funnier.
Like, I thought for sure that he was exaggerating and was being an asshole, but he really is just weird.
>>77527772
>friggin'
You have to be over the age of 18 to post on this website.
I really liked this documentary, it's a great insight into how fucked up Hollywood is.
And to be honest as we were learning more about their vision of Superman Lives I actually was becoming more curious and now not only I want to see what would've happened, but I believe it would've been something interesting. Deffinetly better than Superman Returns.
>>77522550
That one's kind of amazing as wishlists go.
A surprising number of those women are still working and still high-profile, despite being over 30. That's very, very hard to predict.
>>77522562
Compare it to thse fucks. Sure, they weren't the male leads, but have you heard of more than three or four of them? Could you name something each of them has done, or had done then?
>>77522641
There's no point throwing away development work you already paid huge amounts of money for.
>>77522766
>>77522650
That's all businesses everywhere. It's everything everywhere, they're only human. And to be honest, when you major source on how someone behaves is Kevin Smith? Yeah, you're not any better than these people.
>>77523945
normal
a lot of it was probably his own investment in the business and ultimately his own money, assuming a partnership structure for producers
it's supposed to promote fiscal responsibility
>>77524164
They want to make him someone who sells, which stopped in the early 80s and didn't really come back in the way they wanted. Especially since they'll spent 75% more making essentially the same quality of movie as any other studio
>>77524374
you have to admit that's putting it likely
>>77523385
>Now we know where the brutality of Man Of Steel came from.
From Barbara Streisand's hairdresser?
>>77523488
>spider-man 2099 mask
ayy
>>77522577
Wasn't Jason Mewes (Jay from the Clerks movies) in the list too? I remember Kevin talking about it.
