I agree. And then the reason she gave for the breakup became hypocritical as hell (Hal spends too much time jumping back and forth in space and Earth, only for her to go off and travel the universe with Kyle and the Templar Guardians).
What really grinds my gears about the whole thing is that there could have been a buildup to it. It could have made sense if Justin Jordan decided to work on it. But nope. Buddy cop adventures and then Carol "falls in love" with Kyle when he gets Source Walled. And the worst part of it is IC Carol acknowledges she's using Kyle's falling for anyone who gives him the time of day so that she can keep the ring.
