EVERYONE GET IN HERE!

I'm the guy that suggested Superman and Icon have an ongoing monthly team-up fighting Intergang in Metropolis.

Superman and Icon play basketball with the inner-city youth, and they help kids in trouble of falling through the cracks regain their bright and promising futures.

So.. Anyway..
I was thinking how interesting it is that in the 90s and early 2000s there was a huge push for black heroes, then it just dropped off the face of the Earth.

So, I present to you.
The Electric Company.

Founding/Reoccurring Roster:
Steel
Mr. Terrific
Cyborg (Yes I know he's a full-time Leaguer, but bear with me.)

Steel: John Henry Irons, aeronautics engineer with NASA, until budget cuts sent him home to Metropolis, and to work as a common construction worker. Superman's arrival (MoS) inspires Irons to build a super suit and help out. "One man can't do it alone."

Victor Stone: College football quarterback headed for the Big Leagues until a cosmic accident robs young Vic of his promising future. In an attempt to save his son's life, Doctor Stone merges Victor's DNA with an experimental Kryptonian living metal. With help from Superman, Cyborg was born. "Half man, Half machine.. All hero!"

Mr. Terrific: Michael Holt is the world's second smartest man, a title barely anyone remembers him for. Consumed by jealousy Michael dons the alias of Mr. Terrific and starts a gang called "The T's". What follows is a cyber crime wave unlike anything Metropolis has ever seen. When Superman stops the Ts from blowing up Metropolis' central fiberoptic lines, Mr. Terrific nearly kills him with an electric shock measuring in the gigawat range. Overcome by guilt, Mr. Terrific abandons the fight, but is later freed from prison by Superman, who plead for Michael's freedom sighting that his genius could be used for great advancements in technology and the human condition. Superman acts as Mr. Terrific's parole officer.

>No Dakota-verse
This is OP.
I don't like the Dakota-verse because it feels like "you keep your black characters here, and we'll keep out white characters here." The Dakota-verse is almost entirely dedicated to black themes, and black issues. I don't like the idea of segregation in comics.
With intense issues like Rape, Genocide, and Abortion being tackled in the regular DC universe, there's no reason to take this black heroes and buckle them into a 'black only' sub-universe. I think it defeats the purpose of having a regular and consistent community of heroes, regardless of their race.
>>
>>77505101
I like the team idea, it could be pretty great - and also Steel is very underutilised nowadays, he's hardly even a c-lister but has solid b-list potential imo.

Not a huge fan of the Cyborg pic in the op, though, but that's not really related.
>>
>>77505244
steel's problem is that he's not cool if one specific story doesn't happen

he saw superman die and said "well i guess i better go to the basement and build a suit of armor because all this crime isn't going to fight itself" and thats badass

new 52 steel is just generic armor guy, who cares
>>
>>77505101
I chose the name "The Electric Company" because of the word play, and the themes that the television show took on. I want this to be a mostly black roster, but not because they're black, but because they get down played. Even as a League member Cyborg still takes a backseat to some of the other Leaguers.
I chose to pair him up with other technologically advanced black heroes who don't get much action in the regular DCU because I see Cyborg as the bridge between black heroes and white heroes.
I also chose Superman to form this team because of his ever growing responsibilities in the DCU.
I chose Metropolis over Dakota City for the reasons above, and also because Metropolis doesn't have a lot of 'home town heroes' like Gotham does.
Metropolis has always been that technologically advanced shining city on the hill. Clean. Progressive. Naive. All that jazz that comes with being the opposite of Gotham.
I felt it was the best place to set up a team of technology based heroes, as well as tech based adversaries.
>>
How about a black character who is a trickster and is haunted by the spirit of Br'er Rabbit?
The two often argue because the character is ashamed of hi "bumpkin" roots and br'er criticizes him for being Bourgeois or "Boojee"

What we get is a character that needs to use his brains to get by and struggles with how to help his people.
>>
>>77505101
What about Black Lightning, Static, and the Thunderbolt?
>>
>>77505397
This is OP.
I wanted to add them later, once a new foe greater than Intergang and the Ts showed up.
I wanted to keep this to a short list for a while, then expand on the team once the comic itself found it's niche.
>>
>>77505288
I'd put more emphasis on the "champion of the working class" aspect

He could be the resident socialist of DC now that Green Arrow is just a green Batman again. It can be interesting to follow the adventures of a hero with very specific political views. Though that would require a really solid author...
>>
>>77505332
OP again.
We have plenty of great black heroes already, I'm not sure we need to go creating more, that feels a bit, off. BatWing is a prime example of not using what already exists, and that new character pissing everyone off because it's shoe-horned in where it doesn't belong.
>>
>>77505484
yeah steel should be a guy that goes to the worst part of town and tries to use his technology to make things better

and that means more than just putting on a robot suit and jobbing to supervillians
>>
>>77505484
OP here.
I think Mister Terrific fits the societal change mold a bit better. His advanced intellect can lend itself to being "Red Pilled" as /pol/ calls it.

I always felt that Steel was more of the everyman, that he had the talent, and drive to become a man-made Superman. I see him rescuing kittens from trees, and performing more community outreach than being a champion of social justice.

Cyborg always felt like the guy caught between adulthood and childhood. Grappling with the responsibilities of being a hero, while also trying to grow into being a man, as opposed to a kid.
>>
>>77505101
I hate stupid gimmicky shit like this. It's like, think of presenting the line, you're like "here's the street level book, here's the comedy book, here's the space opera book and here's the black corner". Such a racist fucking idea.
>>
>>77505484
>now that Green Arrow is just a green Batman again
Are you reading Green Arrow right now, you fucking retard? because I don't think you are.
>>
>>77505616
Okay, given that Steel and Mister Terrific are next to unknown in the DCU outside of the a few episodes in the cartoons, what would you propose?

This is kind of reader that I don't like. You can't do anything with characters of color because the mere observation of color makes you a racist. There's no winning with readers who look for something to bitch about, as opposed to contributing something constructive to the story.

Cyborg being on the Justice League is a gimmick by that measure, he's the 'token' black guy then, and that's the height of racist representation.

By that logic Static and the Dakota verse are racist.

The fact that Steel is based off of Superman is racist.

The fact that there are comics at all is racist.

Theres just no winning with haters.
>>
>>77505648
did it change over the course of last 10 or so issues? I've dropped the title a while ago
>>
>>77505706
Yes, new creative team. Idiot.
>>
>>77505845
Pardon me for having a life and not tracking creative teams on every book I ever read, especially ones that were shitty for a long while
>>
>>77505686
Mr. T was perfectly fine on JSA(and while we're at it, so was Jakeem Thunder), if you just make a minority league team then then that's stupid. Making an all black team is fucking racist, no matter how you spin it, it's like "here's the superhero team for the darkies and here's the other super hero teams for the regular folk" Fuck you, just have them in regular teams. Steel was once on the Justice League, he can be again. Mr. T can fit in with it too. Or the Earth 2 title. Static can join the TT etc

You don't get it Anon, if white people segregate blacks or put them in special spaces for them, is racist, if black people do it, is innovative! and progressive! and a bunch of buzzwords of the sort.
>>
>>77505906
And what happens every time you put one black dude on a team of white dudes? He vanishes into the backdrop because white writers are afraid of haters like you. So they ignore the character to save face, as oppose to risking pissing you off by giving them a purpose on the team.

So, fuck you. Read up on why black heroes are ignored in comics. Marvel is so hard up to try and do something with their black heroes that they're SJW'ing the Avengers into incompetency.

It wouldn't matter if these heroes found their way onto these teams, the next thing you'd be bitching about is that there aren't any heroes to tackle black issues because they're too busy "fighting the white man's devils".

You're proving my point, asshat.
>>
>>77506067
How am I proving your point? I just told you two examples featuring two characters you mentioned in teams that we're all black and they were fucking great there. You're just a blind ass shit eating racist coon.
>>
>>77506121
You're proving my point that you're going to hate anything because it's there.
It exists so you hate it.

How long ago was Mister Terrific used in anything major?
The Justice League Unlimited cartoon, same for Steel.
I haven't seen Black Lightning in forever, and Static is just used for future League bullshit.

You'd rather shit on an honest attempt to breathe some fresh life into these characters, than try to contribute to it.

Having an all black team is as racist as an all white team, and last I checked, 90% of Superhero teams are made up of white dudes.

So fuck off with your hatred, I'm sure there's a dubs thread you're not shitposting in.
>>
>OP here

>I'm OP
I think using a trip is appropriate for this kinda thread OP
>>
>no Black Lightning, Amazing Man, Vixxen
yeah maybe you should widen your search there are black superheros
>>
>>77506406
Op here.
I referenced above that I wanted to start small, and expand once the comic found it's niche.
I'm not sure Vixxen fits The Electric Company so well. I think I'd rather place her on a team with the Amazons like Artemis and Cassie (WonderGirl).

Doesn't she fit a little better with magic users/mythical heroes?
>>
>>77506245
When was the last all white dude team?
>>
>>77505484
I like this idea. Steel's design lends itself to it pretty well, I think.
>>
>>77506245
>How long ago was Mister Terrific used in anything major?
Future's End. Sit your uninformed ass down and shut your trap, you bitch.
>>
>>77506566
Every hero in Gotham city aside from BatWing which everyone hates.

Every Kryptonian aside from Val-Zod.

Every WonderWoman/Girl/Person.

Young Justice before AquaLad was made black.

The Legion of Superheroes, because apparently there are no black people in the future.

The All-Star Squadron.
Challengers of the Unknown.
Doom Patrol.
The Elementals.
Team Titans.
Justice Guild of America.
Justice Society of America.
Infinity Inc.
Secret Six.
Justice League Dark.
Justice League 3000.
Shadowpact.
Force of July.
Outsiders.
Watchmen.
Hawk and Dove.
Extreme Justice.
Blackhawks.

I could go on, but.. yeah..

So.. Go fuck yourself?
>>
>>77506858
>old teams
So not lately. Thanks for clearing that up.
>>
>>77507155
Yeah, Doom Patrol and Justice League Dark are so old, and Justice League 3000, Hawk and Dove, Shadowpact, and the Legion of Super-Heroes, so old.

Fuck off shitlord.
>>
>>77506858
>Blackhawks
>no niggers

Oh, c'mon DC...
>>
>>77507233
You know Wonder Woman isn't white right?
>shitlord
Oh, nevermind.
>>
>>77507233
Doom Patrol mostly has characters whose ethnicity has nothing to do with the story and their designs leave no room for skin tone anyway, it's like whining about Metal Men - also, they had a black guy on the roster for a while, durng Kupperberg's and Morrison's run.
>>
You could've just proposed an Earth-23 series and left it at that.
>>
>>77505101

Superman/Icon team up sounds cool but let's just make sure we don't give Virgil Hawkins ridiculously styled hair that might make his identity a bit obvious
>>
>>77505101
I remember you OP. If you're going to post often and are planning to do something with this idea, use a trip so you won't have to bother with saying you're OP every time.
