Will you miss Garfield once it ends?
>>77498180
It feels jarring seeing a Garfield strip with smart phones
>>77498180
I will never miss a comic strip more than Calvin & Hobbes.
>>77498180
Is it ending, or are you just posing a hypothetical?
wait so garfield can actually communicate using written english?
>>77498213
Hypothetical. I just got to thinking of it, y'know?
Everyday there's a strip. Every day Garfield's doing something even when we're not paying attention.
And Davis is getting pretty old, y'know..?
>>77498242
I heard that he's barely involved in the day-to-day strip production by now.
Can't confirm it. But maybe he just sits around in his Depends and collects royalties. Nice work if you can get it.
Garfield just isn't the same any more.
How is it still going?
Do people still like it?
Did people ever liked it to begin with?
>>77498387
It just is.
I don't actively seek it but when i do read, i'm amused.
yes.
garfield could go on forever, davis is a construct that has become outmoded. observe.
Heathcliff is on it's second author after the first one died and it hasn't dropped in quality if I can say so.
>>77501062
>hasn't dropped in quality
>has always been shitty
guess it's not that hard to be consistent
Did you know that Jon is a cartoonist?
>>77498180
Show of hands, who here automatically tries to remove Garfield from the strip in their head whenever they read one?
Garfield will never end
It's practically ghostwritten now and I wouldn't be surprised to find out Davis doesn't draw a lot of the dailies either
But even if you factor that out, you could run any comic from the last 25 years or whenever the art change happened and no one would be the wiser
tl;dr I will never miss Garfield because it will be around long after I am dead
>>77501102
>Heathcliff
>shitty
Ayy lmao
>>77498227
Whoa. Within the world of the strip, this is as much a game-changer as Jon and Liz hooking up, and I doubt the creative team has realized it.
>>77501669
>jon hasn't quit his job to be the owner of the first confirmed sentient cat
>>77498242
oh my god that last panel. Almost perfect for a banner, only the aspect ratio is a bit wrong.
>>77498296
As I recall he just signs the strips and that's it. Not sure if he even does editorial, eg. stops bad strips from going through.
Like you said, the cash is really admirable, but only if you do not mind your creations getting defecated upon.
>>77502706
Considering his intention with Garfield was always solely to make money, I'm sure he doesn't mind.
>>77502706
hm, now that I look at it, the image has better impact when mirrored.
>>77498387
It's entirely coasting off that inexplicable surge of popularity it had back in its hayday. People just expect it nowadays, so every newspaper has garfield comics.
>>77501703
yeah wtf since when did they communicate?
>>77498242
>implying that Davis does much of his own comic anymore
Just look at all the newspaper comics by dead guys that are currently running.
>>77502706
>As I recall he just signs the strips and that's it. Not sure if he even does editorial, eg. stops bad strips from going through.
I think he still sort of does editorial. Like sometimes he goes in, suggests ideas for comics, sketch out how they should go.
>>77501062
I don't get it. What's the joke?
>>77503251
Cats are notoriously finicky.
Thus they are at the vet because she thinks something's wrong with him as he is not acting normal.
>>77503274
Oh. I see.
Heh?
>>77498180
I don't really know how to feel about this.
>>77502873
This is great though.
What is dead may never die!
>>77503517
>>77503517
with strange aeons, even death may die.
>>77502743
That wasn't always the case. He started phoning it in during the mid '90s when he realized his Garfield and Friends movie would never leave development hell because it was "too dark."
>>77504025
I thought that was the intent day 1.
That's why he went with imitating Heathcliff, the most popular comic strip of the time.
>>77503109
This, it will continue until the last newspaper is published.
>>77498242
a "the spirit" refence? wow davis thats fantastic
>>77500989
why is there an early panel in between the new panels
>>77498189
It ended on the highes note.
There's no better praise for a comic than wanting more once it ends.
>>77504175
Randomizer.
Wait, you mean new Garfields are still being made?
>>77498180
why does that cat have a phone
>>77498242
I like Liz's DSL.
