Last thread someone said it was because they're meant to be scrolled down as one giant page and build anticipation. Kinda makes sense to me, if you're not limited by feasible print proportions may as well try to come up with a better use of panels.

Fun fact: Korean history is one giant story of how potentially the superpower of Asia, with amazing military technology and masterful tacticians plus the wealth of ALL their neighbors, was unable to do much except survive every other group in Asia constantly trying to bend them over and fuck them.
This is because anyone in Korea who managed to make it into power was either a sex addict with a backstabbing fetish, or someone with a plump back just asking to be stabbed.
That applies for most groups in history, but it's particularly bad with Korea. Every great military invasion ends in "But then that one asshole sabotaged it because he could get a paycheck out of it" and every cultural advance ends in "But then their neighbors broke in and burned it and told nobody what it looked like, because they were jelly".
