Are there any notable working class superheroes without super powers or even augmented super senses, that primarily rely on hand-to-hand martial arts in combat rather than a melee weapon or firearms, and don't have a wealthy benefactor, like a government agency or a billionaire hero, backing them or involved in their origins/training?
Best I could think of is some of the vigilantes in Watchmen.

Check. Not even any gadgets really, aside from his mask and some basic tools like lock picks, glass cutters, and flashlights. And a few sick ass cars, like a VW Bug with a Porsche engine installed. Although I'm not sure if that Pontiac from the cartoon series is ever in the comics.

I kind of liked the Shadoweyes approach (yeah, I know, Rossphia Campbell) of having the heroine be pretty aimless and ineffective for a lot of the first half of the story. She basically stumbles into fights, often beats up the wrong person or for the wrong reasons, and takes on like a hundred missing persons cases with zero ways to solve them.
