Let's have a Thorgal storytime
>>77474455
Man, there isn't any love for Thorgal on /co/, is there?
In the unlikely event that an anon actually reads this, I highly recomend this series, one of the best franco-belgian comics out there.
I used to read it. It's actually pretty damn involved.
>>77474489
>Forgotten for generations
I'm pretty sure the vikings still practiced it c. 1000 AD, when this comic takes place
The art is wonderful.
I like it, nigger, I'm lurking don't stop.
Hmmm the storytime appears to have stopped.
>>77474455
THOR ISN'T A GAL
THOR WAS NEVER A GAL
STOP THE GENOCIDE AGAINST STRAIGHT WHITE MEN
SJW FAGGOT CUNTS
>bump that is
Wait, this isn't Thorn Girl?
>>77475759
What are you talking about?
>>77475636
The artist is still doing Thorgal to this day, although the original writer left.
Can't wait for the next volume, we'll finally seeKahaniel
Why is it suddenly stopping? Someone continue please.
>>77476114
I'm guessing the OP stoped because nobody was responding and the thread was therefore on autosage, I don't blame him. I wish I had come sooner.
I don't know where the OP got these English scans of Thorgal, I read the series in the original french
>>77476149
I am not sure but i think he started in an incovinent hour.
>>77475517
>In the unlikely event that an anon actually reads this, I highly recomend this series, one of the best franco-belgian comics out there.
Niggah, are you high? It's probably the best sword and sorcery comic ever made, second only to Mike Grell's The Warlord of course
>>77476251
I agree.
Has anyone read any of the spin-offs? I found the "Young Thorgal" series kinda meh, but enjoy the Kriss and Louve series
>>77475517
Had to step away, but I'm reading and enjoying it.
>>77475562
The history in Thorgal is.... something better not dwelt on.
It's a high fantasy series featuring a lot of vikings, basically.
Also
>stopping storytime because nobody comments
OP confirmed for new.
>>77476903
It basically mixes a bunch of different cultures in a somewhat nonsensical world that doesn't make much sense.
Any historian reading this would give up on it long before he reaches the Aztecs with Zeppelins
>>77476272
I thought the Louve series was OK, but hated what they did to Aaricia's character.
Which was the Thorgal book that had /ss/?
Will read when time permits.
>>77476251
Way to hype it up.
>>77476149
Anyone have a download for this series? Wish OP would've continued, this looks amazing, right up my alley.
>>77477911
Maybe they'll be back if we keep it bumped.
>>77475517
The last good one was "La forteresse des banis", I couldn't give a shit after that one. I'm happy that Rosinsky is getting work but Van Hamme doesn't give a shit anymore and is just cashing in. Same with XIII post 3 silver watches,
His Blake et Mortimer stories are really dope though.
Torghal N°9 (Arsinoé ?) with the green kid is probably one of the best horror BD I ever read.
>>77478401
Van Hamme isn't the author anymore because even he knew he no longer cared.
Every album from "Moi, Jolan" onwards is by a new guy. I quite like it even if it's a bit different from what we had before.
Van Hamme isn't doing XIII anymore ither, although I haven't read any of the books by the new guy other than the Mysteries spin-off
>>77474577
Fun fact: this same giant showed up in a later album as one of the guests giving presents to the King of the Giants
>>77475920
He's just making fun of anti-SJWs. I think, it's hard to tell satire apart from extremism sometimes
>>77479960
well, that was pretty lame
>>77474582
is that the last page?
>>77480516
No, the storytimer just got mad and left because no one had commented yet while the storytime was happening.
FUCK THIS I'M TAKING OVER
>>77481113
Should I start at the beginning or continue from where OP left?
>>77481139
Continue.
>>77481265
the pages numbering is wrong, so no pages missing
>>77481350
Fug.
>>77481435
just to know, is thread on auto sage?
>>77481501
Nope. It only autosages after 500 posts or if only one person is posting.
>>77481996
kay now, i'm in a bind, see, i'll post the next story, but from where I stand the english translations skipped the first two original issues, and I have them, but they're in spanish, if anons have no problem with that i'll post them, so you decide!
>>77482059
Go ahead. If you could give us a general gist of what they're saying it'd be appreciated, but not required.
After you're all done, could you provide some download links?
>>77474455
holy shit I need a download link if you have one. I can already tell this shit is right up my alley.
>>77482172
>>77482144
right then, as an fyi, i've been thinking of translating euro comics (as in spanish or tranlsated to) since I have quite a few, but I can't manage to edit the pictures even if my life depended on it (by that I mean loss of quality and/or pixeling), if anyone would be interested on doing live translations give me a schedule and I could start the dumping.
>>77482257
sure i'll look if links are alive tough, it's been a while since i got them.
>>77482318
You are a sage and a gentleman.
>>77481878
>>77481908
>>77481923
I always thought that the whole "alien" thing felt really out of place in this series. It's suposed to be high fantasy but then they add this sci-fi stuff.
And don't even get me started with the time patrol
>>77480248
It tell you to not use ableist slurs but I'm sorta mellow from fucking your mom.
>>77474485
Gandalf a shit. His daughter is the only good thing he ever did
>>77482576
>Street name signs captcha
>CURSE YOU MY ETERNAL FOE!
>>77482544
actually the "alien" stuff comes into play way later on, SPOILERS!, but then it's dropped later on (with justification within the story)
>>77482728
>>77475920
>MFW I use Thorgal for my monicker in games
>Everyones asumes that I: like the new fem Thor, am a girl, or both.
>Being a Thorgal fan is not easy
>>77482318
>right then, as an fyi, i've been thinking of translating euro comics (as in spanish or tranlsated to) since I have quite a few, but I can't manage to edit the pictures even if my life depended on it (by that I mean loss of quality and/or pixeling), if anyone would be interested on doing live translations give me a schedule and I could start the dumping.
Get Photoshop and the Limpias Globas/Limpas Globas tool. That shit is godsent. Loss generally is introduce by you saving the images into .jpg at a lower quality repeatedly. Best way to prevent that is to use a lossless file type during editing and only convert it all to jpgs for the final version that's going to be uploaded.
There's a page that lists all european comics that have been translated into english by commerical publishers, try finding it to make sure you aren't wasting time.
On wasting time - don't translate series you are not absolutely certain you want to work on. Professional translators can deal with that, but for fans, working on stuff we don't like is literally physically painful and exhausting. Believe me, I've been there.
The folks who still make eurocomic scanlations threads from time to time can give you more hints and useful dls.
>>77482713
>actually the "alien" stuff comes into play way later on, SPOILERS!, but then it's dropped later on (with justification within the story)
I'm aware. Still dumb, although the Qa story was fun
>>77482544
You don't realize how fucking popular ANCIENT ALIENS are in Europe.
Erich von Däniken used to have a fucking theme park about Ancient fucking Aliens, for christ's sake, with rides and all that jazz.
>>77482894
>commerical publishers
>like cinebook
>Implying i'll wait for them to finish Valerian and Laureline, when I already translated the spanish comics
>>77482955
dude, posting an image on a storytime?
>>77483048
>>77482808
also, thanks for the tips, tough I don't think i'll manage much (work demands much of my time), but i'll keep translating.
>>77482893
The story where they meet the other alien survivors in some mountain is the worst album of all thouh. Don't remember the name
>>77483140
They ain't gonna be singing Gandalf's praises for long.
I'm surprised he even lasted as long as he did
>>77482611
my mom died when she gave birth to men.
I hope you enjoy having leprosy
>>77483252
Just wondering, has anyone read worlds of Throgal?
>>77482611
>ruining thread with juvenile humor
>>77483287
and fuck you too for replying.
>>77483417
Yes, gave my opinion here >>77476272
In fact, just 2 days ago I read the newest Kriss of Valnor album, was good
>>77483455
Does Gandalf not care that people call him "The Mad"?
>>77483455
>>77483463
oh, right then, I've downloaded them, can't read french, but they seem nice
>I thought the Louve series was OK, but hated what they did to Aaricia's character.
What does this mean? what happened to her?
>>77483571
>>77483495
I think it goes as in battle mad like a berserker or something like that
>>77483571While Thorgal is away on an adventure, this one guy wants to bang Aaricia, so he tricks her into thinking Thorgal is dead. Aaricia tries to commit suicide. The guy has to save her twice, and later ends up sleeping with her.
>>77483655Louve is very angry about this, refuses to believe Thorgal is dead and calls her mother a whore, Aaricia slaps her. At least in the end, thanks to Vigrid, she finds out the asshole lied and just wanted to marry her to get the magic powers he thought she had, and makes up with Louve, but the damage is done.
>>77483645
>>77483655
>>77483744ntr-ing the purest waifu in comics history, my rage and rustled jimmies will bring about the end of the world
if I wasn't storytiming id start shitposting rage mrw images, jesus christ, now I DON'T want to read them.
>>77483814
The Kriss of Valnor ones are fine. Nothin that would piss anyone off.
Gives her backstory and then her going on a new quest that connects to events in the main book
>>77484067
>>77483655
>>77483744
>>77483885I mean look at this, how can anyone do that to a sweet character like this? WTF is wrong with Yann?
>>77483814
>>77484147
If it's any consolation, the series does turn Louve into a badass
>>77484291
>>77484353
Now I just hope they can a happy ending, at least.
Just now i'm seeing something about "Thorgal's youth" anyone read that?
>>77484514
I read the first volume at the library. Didn't interest me much
>>77481676
Now that looks like something from the "Ulysses 31" cartoon. Anyone remember it? Both that and Throgal gives the same type a vibe IMO.
>>77484844
>>77484875
>Ulysses 31
>Anyone remember it?
>My brethren of african descent
>>77484988
>>77484875
Well shit, I didn't know the series was actually complete, now I know what to look for tonight
>>77483655
>never seen this one before
>seems interesting
>maybe i'll pick it up
>"oh btw anon, see that cute character there? yeah, NTR"
>infiniterage.png
god fucking damn. i have no problem with ntr in porn, but in this kind of story and to this kind of character just fucking no.
>>77484955
Cheers.
Also, that bit about the "Star People" reminds me of thatPolishcomic originally published inGermanythat dealt with van Daniken's whacko theories. AFAIK that and Thorgal was published here about the same time in the late 80's/early 90's and really takes me back.
>>77485148
You mean the Ulysses thing?
Only ever aired a few eps, but it was so unusual it kept a special place in me memories.
>>77485148
>>77485173well kekold, not actually breaking the couple, but anyway, it already happened with Thorgal, so now that i think about it, it doesn't seem THAT bad, just hope there isn't an offspring.
>>77475517
Loving it /co/mrade.
>>77485381
END, now as promised i'll post the first comics with a quick translation
>>77474455
fucking sjw shit pandering to feminists, reported
>>77485442
>title: a sorceress betrayed or the betrayed sorceress
I honestly kept scrolling past this thread because I saw the word Thorgal and just assumed you were talking about Whor.
>>77485541
wow, at least i was joking when i called it sjw shit, that's genuinely retarded
>>77485467
Gandalf gloating about the "ring or stone of sacrifice" how he likes how people scream while the tide rises
Thorgal drops the truth, you're not only cruel and stupid, you're (something like traitorous or perfidous) like a crow and more cowardly than a hare.
>>77485608
Again Gandalf gloating, about how the tide will make him sing a different song.
Thorgal swears revenge.
Gandalf making Aaricia look as how the sea will swallow Thorgal
>>77485788
Thorgal: I can't die like this
>>77485813
Thorgal asking Odin if he'll let him die without revenge
>>77485904
T:Who? I don't know-
W:But I know you Thorgal Aegirsson
W:Thorgal the skald... no one knows your origins, not even yourself. people say that you're Aegir the sea giant's child
W:Also called "child of the storm" because of your character
W:Who is being punished for the crime of being an outsider and loving the king's daughter
T:Aaricia
W:yes
T:Who are you and how is it that you know all this?
W:My name comes later, now Thorgal I need your strength and hatred
T:It's getting cold, free me and well talk about it.
W:Not so fast i have a proposition for you.
W:I'll free you if you swear to serve me for a year.
>>77486226

W:In less than an hour the cold wit paralyze you, in two you will die. and for nothing, i give you your life and ask for one year. what is there to lose?
T:My dignity!
T:But there isn;t just hatred in me, there is also patience. I accept stranger, one year, but not one day more!
W:True strength comes from wisdom friend. lesson learned
W:come child of the storms, a long journey awaits!
>>77486677
T:It's been five days since we left the sea and three we go up this snow...
W:Save you breat Thorgal. we've almost arrived
T:Arrived where? no one lives in these mountains. what are you looking for woman? what do you want?
W:The same thing you want: vengeance! and you will be my instrument for it, and you'll get it for me...
W:Up there!
>>77486830
W:Up on the mountain there is a tower, guarded by a giant and a dwarf in there is a small silver box.
W:Tomorrow you will take my sword, climb the mountain, kill both guardians, find the coffin and bring it here.
T:but...
T:who does this coffer belong? and...?
W:silence!
W:you've sweared obeciance for a year Thorgal Aegirsson. therefore hold your word and obey! no questions asked!
T:just a bit more...

G: Go on dog! Move!
G: The sea awaits us...
G: The ring of death! Ah, how I love this place
G: Think about it, think about all who have died screaming while tied to these chains as the tide rises.
G: And you'll die too Thorgal Aesgirsson! you too will scream until you drown!
T: Not only are you cruel and stupid Gandalf the Mad.
T: You're as dastardly as a crow and more cowarldy than a hare!
>>77485788
G: Thor's hammer!
G: Maybe the salty wind on this wound'll make you sing a different song, before the water and cold make you silent! damn skald!
T: Ki... kill you Gandalf! I swear... I swear i'll kill you!
G: Move! weigh anchor!
G: And you my sweet child, my dove, I didn't bring you here to miss the sights...
G: So, look my angel! Look one last time upon the miserable wretch of a bastard that you dared to choose as your lover!
>>77485813
T: Midgard's rings! dying like this is too pitiful!
>>77485904
T: yield! yield damn it! yield! (don't know if this is the correct word)
G: You'll die Thorgal Aesgirsson! you too will scream!
T: Odin! Odin! Will you let me die without granting me vengeance!?
>>77482761
Maybe you should use Aegerison instead...
Thorgal's youth and the New World arc are probably my favourite parts of the series.
>>77487203
W: Up on the mountain there is a tower, guarded by a giant and a dwarf, the giant is a fearsome foe, but the dwarf is, surprisinly the most dangerous of the two, the two of them guard a small silver box.
W: Tomorrow you will take my sword, climb the mountain, kill both guardians, find the coffin and bring it to me here.
T: But...
T: Who does this coffer belong? and why...?
W: Silence!
W: You've sweared obeciance to me for a year Thorgal Aegirsson. Therefore, hold on to your word and obey! No questions asked!
And so at the break of dawn...
T: Just... a bit more...
>>77487276
T: Right, everything good so far. Maybe...
T: I'll be able to sneak...
Giant: Finally an intruder... I was starting to bore myself. Defend yourself little man!
T: I have no chance of winning in combat...
>>77487293
Then...
I'll improvise!
EH!? What...
Now then... If this was the least dangerous of the two, I wonder how the other one will be!
But, where could this dwarf hide? Is he stalking me?
Within the tower no doubt...
The box!
>>77487307
T: No, this is too easy. There must be a trap...
D: So, you've defeated my poor brother... Don't know if I should congratulate or curse you.
D: Yes, this box attracts the greedy. But, unfortunately for you, you're the first one that has actually entered the tower.
T: The bars! They're closing!
D: Of course they're closing you fool! these bars are alive! and I've commanded them to crush anyone that dares set a foot within this door!
T: Stop... can't breathe...
D: Scream, you bastard, scream... And die, just like anyone who dares to profane the frozen kingdom of Niflhel's watchtower!
>>77487323
T: Sharn! How did he? Oh!
T: The bars... the dwarf... gone! Is this a miracle or a nightmare?
T: Quick! let's take this damn box and leave! this was a close one!
T: I ignore what sacrilege you've made me do woman, but know by the gods that responsibility falls on you
W: What do I care... You've made it. quick give me...
W: Freyr's rings!
W: MWAHAHAHA!
W: With this I have you now Gandalf the Mad!
damn I dozed off for a while, translation continues
>>77487349
Once a year, the Joll raunites the seafaring peoples in banquets and drinking. the main attraction of this festivity is the breaking of war steeds.
And the northern vikings, Gandalf's people, aren't any less enthusiatic about celebrations...
G: Heriulf, so nice to have you back at the table! ha ha ha!
>>77487373
That beast is wilder than a demon from Niflheim. No one can tame it.
No... it's just that you have legs softer than snow. you've lost your bet Heriulf...
What a pretty belt friend, such a shame to lose it. Ha ha ha! come my brave vikings, who wants to gabmle and win this magnificent animal? you just have to sit on it! hahaha!
Pff we've all tried...
Except Gandalf himself, he's just happy to collect our bets.
Heriulf's right, that horse's indomitable.
Only Thorgal Aegirsson could mount it.
Obviously, it was his horse.
Shht... quiet!
It seems someone mentioned a name I hate, a name whose owner the sea has taken. But, let's not sour the festivities... so I'll ask again, will anyone bet for this horse?
Yes! I will!
>>77480550
it was page 8 to be honest.
>>77487445
Ho Ho! welcome to my lands, stranger. You may partake on our feast and drink. But aren't you *ahem* a little old to break a steed?
A mount like that would be a godsent, Isn't the Joll's rule that anyone has a right to try?
It's your choice old man, worse for your bones. But if you know the Joll's rules you'll also know that you have to gamble with me. what do you bet?
This golden bracelet is surely a worthy treasure to gamble with you sir!
You're crazy! The beast will break your bones!
No my friend, it won't.
Forgive me old buddy, I'm about to do something to you that you may never forgive me...
>>77487547
I warned you...

Looks like you'll still travel on foot old man. Good show. now pay your debt and join us for a drink.
Aye, I've lost. the bracelet is yours
A pretty jewel foreigner, and easily won.
Too easily Gandalf the mad!
Wha- What do you mean?
What you dishonestly earn may very well be your ruin, Oh my stupid and cruel king!
>>77481726
holy shit what...
This is wild!
BUMP
Not gone, still writing
>>77485317
Yeah, the couple isn't actually broken.Aaricia thought her husband was dead, and I'm sure Thorgal would understand since as you pointed out, Thorgal did far worse since he actually slept with and impregnated one of their most hated enemies.
What is Thorgal anyway?
It uses some scandinavian mythos but rather freely, mixes it up with "ancient aliens" whatever and has that eerie feeling to it.
>>77495800
Wasn't he coaxed into it?
>>77487651
How I've waited for this, viking mongrel! Now I have you at my mercy!
You! you and that bastard together! Men to me! My vikings! to me! Get them!
Your raiders won't move Gandalf. They are afraid. And you know they hate you. No, they wont aid you, maybe, they'll even be glad to see you turned into my slave thanks to the magic of Freyr's rings...
Crawl Gandalf! Crawl to my feet like the mongrel you are! come to me...
They... They're gone! She took him! Why? What will she do to him Thorgal? Who was she? What sorcery...?
I ignore the answers to all this.
Let me go with you, my love. I beg you...
I can't Aaricia. not yet. I must follow her. But, i'll return, to never leave your side again, I promise.

It mixes Ancient aliens, with Norse mythology and then adds a bunch of new magical stuff of their own, as well as mythologies from other cultures.
Then in one story we're introduced to the time police from the future. (They suck at their job)
>>77495889
A low fantasy world that hides a high sci-fi fantasy universe.
>Wasn't he coaxed into it?
No he forgot his previous lifeOdin willed it as punishmentand Kriss found him and told him he was her husband.
>>77495922
I always wondered something about the time police. In the original timeline before that Time agent accidentally let Jolan change things, Thorgal and Kriss died and Jolan just lived on an island. Wouldn't the fact that Thorgal and Kriss survive change the course of history A LOT given all the crap they did after that story? You'd think the Time Police would have killed them anyway to prevent history from being altered so much.

>>77495939
Shit sounds better with every minute.
>he forgot his previous life Odin willed it as punishment and Kriss found him and told him he was her husband
Well, all things considered, one could hardly blame this nigga.
>>77496023
Maybe they were all like "it's spawning a new universe anyway so whatev"?
>>77496148
I think so, I mean, since they didn't implode or vanish it would mean that whatever changed may not affect the far future.
Did they ever explain how Kriss of Valnor managed to get from Central America back to Northern Europe?
That always bugged the crap out of me, especially the way how when asked she just says "I did, doesn't matter how"
>>77487704
I don't understand your mistrust nameless. Why hide your intentions? Where are we going?
Shut up!
Remember you belong to me, Thorgal Aesgirsson. For eleven months and a week more. So stop looking for answers, just obey my commands.
I know! But you abuse our agreement. Remember that it is slavery that begets revolt.
By the way, aren't you affraid our prisoner might escape?
Him? As long as he wears Freyr's ring that pig won't take a step unless I say so.
Hey! How long must we keep going? I... I cant go on.
That's because you're gaining weight Gandalf! But don't worry. This is the end of your road.
The Baalds!?
>>77496263
I'm pretty sure that liberating an island from an evil God, destroying the last spaceship of the people of the stars, curing a plague, helping an exiled God return to Agard, getting Loki exiled, leading armies defending the vikings from totally-not-christian crusaders, causing a demi-god to be cursed, an ancient sorceror being reborn and all the other stuff they've done since then would have pretty big impact on history.
right guys i'll have to stop here, if thread's still alive tomorrow I'll continue, if not I'll start another one, once I've finished translating. see you around!
>>77495922
>(They suck at their job)
Like hard.
"Hello kid who is probably a fuck powerful psyker. Let me show you the thing that would make the decades of sorry and loneliness worth it. Certainly you will not just punch me in the face and mindrape me so that you'll at least die knowing that things will be allright for your family."
>>77496641
Probably just as well to start a new thread since this one is so close to the bump limit
>>77482318

News travel fast around here. We heard that the poor king of the vikings was in peril and would love to ease his suffering. permanently. And you, travelers, have nothing to fear from us... so long as you stay out of it.
Don't leave to them, Slive! These bandits have no gods or follow any laws... they are cruel... they'll torture me...
You deserve worse Gandalf. Haven't you done tormented your own people for years? Maybe the fate they offer you might be a mercy compared to what awaits you with me. And you have no right to mention my name...
But there was a time when you were a great warrior, Gandalf. You were corageous and knew how to fight...
Come, try to remember and defend yourself!
>>77488034
Now's the time, Sharn... Go!
With that beast, the odds are against us. Run! we'll get them later...
But first, I'll deal with you, witch!
>>77488137
Gandalf, stop! Don't follow them...
Who said anything about following those dogs, idiot...
Now I can finally rid myself from this she-demon. What better chance than this.
May Thor's hammer crush this mutt! He can't be at her side at all times, and when he does
Gandalf you coward... The Baalds... may return
So? I should kill out of rpinciple, you bastard....
>>77488222
But you've fought by my side. That will spare your life today!
You damn rat...
Enough! Move!
Oh, almost forgot...
Give this trinket back to your mistress. Goodbye Thorgal Aesgirsson.
>>77488254
What is it?
Your horse, or what the wolves left of it.
And that would be Gandalf's trail, looks like he's wounded, if the wolves haven't killed him he sittl won't be too far.
It'll soon be nightfall, we better hurry or we'll lose him.
Then time is of essence. We're a day's travel from the viking territories. We must catch Gandalf tonight. Hurry!
Look, seagulls, the coast must be near.
Aye, I see...
