Does fox even care? I thought they were in on it seeing how they've been downing them since 95.

And for the most part Simpsons has artistic license and freedom under fox outside of censorship issues as a pg13 show.

Then again that was the point of the Halloween censor murder box

Well the looney tune properties were still outside of this for the most part. WB also was pretty based with their lineup at the time (Freakazoid, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons) which they didn't pull punches and left mostly untouched by news "standards" of the industry.

They were all well animated (not 1970s quality be still better than most), allowed violence, and didn't shrink of their characters for the sake of PC.

It was still a while before that shit hit critical mass.

Not /co/ but End Of Evangelion was basically Anno saying F U C K Y O U to otaku culture.
Shinji masturbating to a comatose Asuka was his way of saying "this is literally you. making waifus of animated 14 year olds (particularly Rei) is fucked up".
Everyone wanted an ending that wasn't clip shows, so he turned the world in to Orange juice.

S&P stands for standards and procedures. They're basically the censors from what I gather. The original text on the party poster was "bottles will be spun" but S&P wouldn't allow it because it implied kissing, and as we all know, kissing can lead to sex, and sex is bad. So the show changed it to "not S&P approved" and S&P couldn't find anything wrong with that so, ironically, was forced to approve it.

>LoK's existence puts a hamper on the Avatar universe in general

Why would anyone wanna go back after this? You didn't expand upon a current IP you attempted to kill it. Say what you will about Aang discovering Energy Bending last second and sucking Ozai's Fire Bending away. That's still a win in Aang's book and he was able to do it without breaking a moral code. Why would anyone wanna be at Ozai's level of reasoning?

Then you have Korra who solved every problem with physical violence.

With each new threat becoming progressively more and more ridiculous

There is a reason why people thought Book 2 of LoK jumped the shark...I went into that thinking "lets see where this goes..."

The executives liked Elmyra despite most fans not being big on her. I hope there's some behind-the-scenes documentation to confirm fan theory, but that's the common theory. Similar rumors also say that Fifi got the shaft because fans were being weirdly obsessive over her, so take that as you will.

>>
>>77478041
Well, he also served a little bit of a purpose to a joke. He was the perfect counterpart to Poochie's design and concept. He would have been the perfect voice actor for Poochie. He'd just have to do that thing where he shows up and just acts like himself, and if anything it would have improved what the execs were going for for the character. And then Homer gets cast for the part.

It's actually strange to me that as a kid I got that part of the joke a lot better and hardly noticed the "this character will never come back again because this whole idea is stupid" part.

Not really. Ripping Friends is a concept John K had for a long time about "the world's manliest men." It started out with one superhero who's the manliest man, but Fox wanted to tone it down, so it became a team of brothers. (There's some cross-network rule about cartoons for kids only featuring children or child-like adults)

So it became Ripping Friends, and was pure John K trying to be entertaining.

He didn't get the voice actors he wanted and the acting and timing were spotty in places, but it was definitely "played straight" and not a "fuck you" to the network or anyone.

It used to be pretty much the norm in the US, and still is in a lot of places. There's been a documented trend of less "neighborliness" in the last decade or so, which is often attributed to increasing isolation brought on by technology and less trust in a post-Columbine/9-11 world.

It's apparently more noticeable in the Northeast and West, and quite possibly the norm depending on what country you live in.
>>
>>77480034

Not quite a writer and not quite a company, but there's this.

In 2001, Marvel recalled the recently released Universe X: Spidey one-shot. It was strange, as there seemed to be nothing content wise that would cause it to be pulped, and there were no printing errors. Then someone discovered a message in one of the panels.

Spidey was released a few months after Bob Harras was fired as Marvel Editor-in-Chief. Al Milgrom, former longtime Marvel editor and then-current freelance inker, wrote a little hidden message in the book to detail his feelings on the subject.

Its by Don Hertzfield. He does alot of these minimalist cartoons, they always have a message to them. It can be a mixed bag really, but sometimes they're good. The Simpsons couch gag is basically Don taking the piss out of The Simpsons gradually becoming little more than catchphrase spouting cliches that exist only to peddle merchandise, with Homer briefly remembering Marge having emotions and loving him before looking sad at what his family has become.

Like I said, his work can be mixed really, and you have to have a certain tolerance for that sort of thing, but I think the couch gag at least was well done.

Walk of Doom ended with Zim beside a sign saying, "Welcome to Mexico". It was purely a joke on how bad Zims sense of direction is, but Nick thought it had racist overtones.

So Jhonen replaced it with the most racist depiction of Mexico he could imagine.

Because it had no specific references to Mexico, it went through.

It's amazing how creators get away with so much more if they just throw a whole lot of shit at the censors and overwhelm them with a wave of it than if they just upfront show the thing they wanted to do in the first place. It's gotten to be a hollywood tactic by now. For some reason people in the position of moderating these things feel a need to nitpick and tear shit apart even when it's fairly tame, but refuse to do the work of shifting through a whole pile of offensive material and instead just pick out the worst bits and let the other stuff go, even when they'd never let it fly someplace else.

Our neighborhood's actually been getting to be a little more neighborly than it used to be. We take our dog walking every day and we stop to talk to people sometimes. Maybe because we started doing it, but there's been a steady increase in people doing the same thing in the past couple of years, and gradually we've come to know a lot of the people in our neighborhood. That was a joke that he made in reference to the Christian symbolism used in the TV series, and has nothing to do with the movie.

>the actual final episode was done that way because the studio ran out of money.

That's a bullshit theory that's been debunked for years. The reason was that they ran out of time to produce the episode and the production schedule was incredibly tight towards the end, apparently being one of the most stressful shows that most people involved with it have ever worked on.

Part of me really wants to know how this sort of mindset comes to pass. But it was possibly more depressing than it would have been because Anno did get a lot of hate mail for the original ending including death threats.

Executives suffer from that expert problem, where expertise in one field is confused for expertise in others. Steven Spielberg really pushed Warner brothers to make Tiny Toons and later Animaniacs. Disney had their renaissance with feature films and started making strong after school programs. Then Nickelodeon all kinda happened at the same time.

Animation sucked in the late 70's up through most of the 80's, it was a fucking corporate grind toy commercial industry. Even Disney features were really really weak in this period. I honestly think that it was such a long gulch of content that several people in different organizations independently thought about revitalizing cartoons in various ways.

Wasn't there another episode where Stan goes on for a minute or two and the entire thing is censored? I can't even recall what the episode was about, just that bit at the end with Stan talking into the camera looking pissed and the whole thing being bleeped. Tried googling it but all I can find is the episode 201 stuff.
