The giant dump of teenage ISSUES on his head doesn't make sense for that character -- it's not just an age thing, it's a personality thing. The writers tried extra hard to make sure Finn got unhappy and broken and unable to deal with his own life. For drama.
What's the point of this show? What overarching plot is there in adventure time? The focus is supposedly Finn's internal conflict of being a fucking beta and growing up and whatnot, but in the episodes that move the narrative the most, like the finale of season 6, we don't see him growing up, or acknowledging his failures, he goes from epiphany to epiphany without changing, so what's the point?
