Kit doesn't seem too happy that her sister has arrived. From the Poppy tumblr her sister was the queen two years ago but left after their father fell ill to become the head of the family IIRC. With Kit being a total medical genius that is world renown does anyone else think that her family pressured her into the position?

Then there's the fact that it looks like Kit is in charge of saving her fathers life. That's a pretty big responsibility to have, knowing that failing to do so will result in your father dying and the family will pretty much blame you not trying hard enough. No wonder poor Kit works herself half to death.

Well, we got some insight. The tech level is high enough that they have a city-sized flying saucer, teleportation on a massive scale, and, as far as I can tell from the upside-down statue and towers, possibly structures capable of inverting gravity entirely.

I assume Chicadino's whole plot to get married into royalty is because Kit wants to use Godsblood to save her dying father. The next question is where the hell godsblood comes from exactly. I'm assuming they aren't piping it out of a dead god like they do for dragon blood.

I dunno, it seems the main object of her worry is her family coming back. While the mob is most definitely up to shenanigans, her family's relations and the still unsolved cure (if the three days in the lab are anything to go by) are probably the bigger issue to her at the moment.

It's probably gonna end up with her cheefully announcing the town's energy concerns are gone thanks to the new deal with "Totally Legitimate Energy Inc" because looking into mob rumors take up time that could be used for medical research

I asked a question on Morbi's Poppy Tumblr numerous times but it never got answered, so I'll ask you guys.

Do guns exist in the Poppyverse? I know it's been hinted at/referenced in alt text before. Like the one about the earplugs and localized gunfire. Because if guns did exist there sure is a lot of swords and medieval armor going around (at least in Kit's castle)

>>
>>77472548
It's cheaper to mass produce guns and teach people to use them than to hope all your soldiers have magical ability and then train them in magical combat. Sure it has advantages but with guns you have the distance of engagement advantage and an easier way to kill someone. This is presumably why Morbi's been avoiding having guns around prominently in the comics themselves. Would be anticlimatic if a gangster in that one chapter just pulled a gun out and started capping everyone there.

that thing was so broken it wasn't even funny

>>
>>77472634
I was saying in general. We really don't know the full capabilities of magic in combat in the comic either.

And like that one anon said, why not both? Like have some Dishonored shit going on and mix/matching the use of both, or like in Mage: The Awakening with enchanted guns n shit. Would be cool.

Considering that almost everyone in the series has some level of magical ability and enchantments are almost a casual thing it might just be that guns simply have more things that can counter them than in the real world. We're talking a setting where a traumatic amputation can be healed with magic in a few days.
>>
>>77472743
Most have magical ability sure but how many have the ability to raise shields to protect from bullets? A fast shooter can have a gun up and firing in seconds. I don't see why there can't be both. All I'm getting here is "m-muh magic"

Okay smart guy, then why even have guns in the Poppyverse if it's all magic all day every day? If they're still using swords, they're obviously not just relying on magic for fighting, so why not have guns as well? Magic + Guns would be a devastating combination.

Imagine a place where a gun-free zone means an anti-combustion field or something like a Dune-style shield that automatically stops something going above a certain speed. Clothing that's been enchanted to where it puts a Level III bullet-proof vest to shame.

Then there is the fact that most everyone in the series is shown to work far beyond the level seen in reality. Poppy walked off a heart attack, Valente gets punched through a massive steel door then hits another massive steel door a kilometer away and survives, and Poda gets punched in the face so hard the wall behind her craters when her head hits it and isn't phased. It's not "m-muh magic," it's that within the context of the world guns really wouldn't be anything special.
>>
>>77472944

But there are both as a matter of fact. The royal guards that aren't magically capable enough will employ firearms if deemed necessary.

Folks with enough of a talent such as Friedrich, who can outright surpass a firearm with telekinetically propelled swords are the ones who won't care about firearms.
>>
>>77473075
he can also teleport
>>
>>77472880
Perhaps some things can't be killed using magic. Also, not everyone has magic reserves for fighting. Mary, for instance, has a laughably small amount of magical ability despite being a direct descent of one of the Three Sisters of Magic.

Going on this information, we can assume that technology was created to assist those who were not magically inclined (with the exception of Opossums for obvious reasons). And magic might be traceable. All the more reason for tech to be used in the wrong way.
>>
>>77473075
>>77473089
Okay, so why can't someone with enough magical talent also use a gun, and teleport and shit and cap some niggas? Guns > Swords.

>>

What does that have to with Morbi's setting?
>>
>>77473124
Someone with enough magical talent could opt for something less complex so that they could use it for a more extended period of time. In a fantasy setting like this where some can put up a fight while still being in the effective range of a firearm, the power disparity between a blade and a gun can get a bit fucky under the right circumstances.
>>
>>77473124
Ask Morbi.
>>
>>77473253
I am sounding like a broken record, but I'll say it again.

Why not both?

Like in Dishonored, you choose to use either a gun, sword, crossbow or magic, depending on the circumstance. They each have their inherent advantages and one can compliment the other well. Imagine how easy it would be to lay down suppressing fire if you have a magical shield up around you as not to eat bullets trying to cover your squad?

The thread so far had rated me on several of my previous stuff with varying levels of "Yeah that's pretty alright I guess". What I'm doing right now is from an idea a long while ago about some poor shitter who has a definitely useless lucky star, except I threw him on a train murder mystery because I could.

Here's my resume
>>
This isnt even that complex a concept.

Universes like these have power levels. Some dudes are just fucking beyond what physics can pull off - If you KNOW such a thing as dragons exists, you're going to be worried about researching and developing heavy scale magical countermeasures long before you develop physical ones.

having individuals who can laugh off bullets make them a hell of a lot less attractive on the tech tree simple as that. the worlds national powers would focus more on super dudes since there are basically fucking stands that ensure a good chunk of it is set from birth. guys on freds level appear to be fairly rare - he's the only fighting game character we've seen who isnt a Lucky Star.
>>
>>77473247
Magic Guns.
>>
>>77473289
But there's nothing special about chemical slughthrowers. They're just one type of weapon among many, and you start to sound just like the katana crowd for insisting on them.
>>
>>77473289
Honestly, I think the problem comes down to us not really seeing enough combat orientated "learned" magic (not innate, i.e. Lucky Star powers) powers. The only style of combat we've seen so far is Friedrich's, which pretty much justifies not utilizing a firearm.

If the magical power orientated around putting up protective fields, a firearm would most certainly make more sense as it would be a waste to put the advantage of on-demand cover to treating it like a conventional, physical shield.
>>
>>77473359
which are not confirmed or even hinted at in this setting, so nothing apparently
>>
>>77473370
There's nothing special about sharpened metal, they're just one type of weapon among many.

I'm not insisting on them, I'm just trying to ask where guns come into play and I have these jerkoffs coming out of the woodwork just to say WELL UH MAGIC AND SWORDS ARE BETTER SO NO GUNS

you're trying to project modern weaponry onto what would be mideval musketry. sure we can see robot rabbits and, apparently, aero-planes, but these things arent mass produced. Their high end, rarified, expensive as shit luxury items.

so sure someone could try and develop them but they'd bring it into a real battle, the seriously trained among the enemy would go "Oh, bullets" and throw shields up in no time flat. Then the side that brought them in would realize it was a waste of money and shut that project down.

its not like people just develop glocks or AKs out of nowhere, theyd be musket level at first. is the idea that the tech just wouldnt advance due to severely viable alternatives at that level quashing it so hard to work your head around?

Would cybernetic limbs be possible? I mean, they have robots and shit. Sure, they can regrow limbs, but could someone theoretically Adam Jensen their shit up to be super strong or something? I imagine the limbs would be powered by their inherent magic or something.

It's stupid I know but I was just curious.

>Guns vs Swords vs Magic faggotry
The real question isn't about magic vs guns.

It's about organization.

Lucky Star powers are great on a personal level, but when you go in to a WAR setting you can't have some faggot that grows ten feet tall, ghost arm katana wielder, and some third weird thing all holding the same battle line. The better drilled, better organized, army wins even when their opposition possesses superior force and technology. However war is waged, with guns magic or sword, you'll have to group the combatants in to a coherent fighting force. Meaning the method of any given battle unit (on various scales) will have to posses equivalent abilities to work together coherently. Not only that, command will have to have reliability in knowing what their forces can do in a real sense. Having a bunch of super powered special snowflake fags chaotically running around doing their own thing only works if the enemy is incredibly disorganized.

Perhaps soldiers will all be taught a simple combat magic to wield based on unit type. It's not strong, but put together a thousand diddly and it adds up to a whole lot of diddly. It's simplicity and better organization man to man also makes it easier to use tactically. Complicated weapons are NOT necessarily superior ones.

Maybe you ignore teaching your jerks magic and outfit them in enchanted arms (appropriately low grade for mass production amongst a lot of troops but still effective enough for the job). Maybe you have some really well trained war wizards buffing and providing magical backup from behind the lines of the grunts.

There's a lot of potential, but it all boils down to ORGANIZATION. A simple to wield, effective, weapon able to be produced or learned widely will be the prefered method for military.

Everything else is only good for street fighting or body guards.
>>
>>77473739

>>77473826

>>
>>77473953
It's not like specialist units don't exist in reality. Granted, that's also very conditional. Boris' power is good in a brawl, but what about in a life and death fight where the other guy has a bazooka?

Even in medieval times, you had specialist units. More specifically trained and using different weapons, but the overwhelming bulk of the army was still homogenous. Your whole army can't be the faggots riding in the chariot by the enemy front lines harassing them with arrows, for instance.

>>77474009
Battle lines still and will always exist. Their form may become obscured, but there is always a line to be held in some manner. It may not be held by lining knights or peasants shoulder to shoulder anymore, but it's held all the same.

In modern times, a lot of warfare is simply information based for such reasons.

Granted, war was always won based on information, but before modern times the ability to gather and pass it was incredilby limited.
>>
>>77474039
>It's not like specialist units don't exist in reality. Granted, that's also very conditional. Boris' power is good in a brawl, but what about in a life and death fight where the other guy has a bazooka?

Boris could take a punch from Poppy without even flinching. Seeing the amount of force concentrated on a single point that implies, I'm pretty sure his reaction to an RPG's explosion would be "you burned my fucking pompadour!" followed by punching.
>>
>>77474071
I think you underestimate what a RPG is capable of, but it was just an example. Boris is a brawler, and his lucky star power is only suitable for such one on one personal fights where no one is bringing the magical equivalent of a FUCK YOU from a mile away.

I'm not belittling Boris as a character. He himself clearly knows his niche is as a prize fighter, and he's very good at it.
>>
>>77474039
Jets don't fight in a battle line, for example, so no.
>>
>>77474126
And yet front lines still exist, jets fly to assist in holding territory on the front lines, and it works fine.
>>
>>77474126
having soldiers who can fly on their own would change battles
>>
>>77474142
Really depends on their own capability (beyond the power of flight) and how much they can hold while flying, doesn't it?
>>
>>77474090
And I think you're underestimating what Boris can withstand. And if a brawler can tank a direct bazooka hit, think of what a trained military specialist can?

To comment your earlier point of battle lines, thiose weren't absolute even on Earth. For example feodal Samurai charged each other as battle lines true, but upon contact they engaged in individual melees, challenging each others into duels to gain honor from defeating a famous enemy swordsman.
>>
>>77474135
Terrorists and guerrillas don't fight in battle lines or hold a front either.

You're taking the term FRONT LINES too literally.

Supply lines, centers for communication, where equipment is kept, and such things are still needed by terrorists and guerrillas. They have to live somewhere, sleep, get their supplies, eat, and have some method of passing information to each other. They will also have some sort of command structure no matter how well hidden it is. Is this difficult to understand?

>>77474170
Your idea that Boris is invincible relies on an awful lot of assumptions. As such you have no argument except your own belief it has to be true.

The only argument I can offer against delusion is thus; If he were as invincible as you think, he wouldn't be a mere prize fighter.
>>
>>77474265
>If he were as invincible as you think, he wouldn't be a mere prize fighter
In Boris's case, he is unsuited to war combat because his power relies on self-esteem
>>
>>77474270
And thus, even before the faulty assumption of invincibility, the argument is rendered impotent.
>>
>>77474279
You're the only one talking about invisibility though. Poppy's punch packs more power than a bazooka hit, and she couldn't even scratch Boris, that's what everybody else saw happen in the comic but not you, apparently.
>>
>>77474265
Ok, but what that has to do with fighting in battle lines? Nothing at all.
>>
>>77474297
RPGs work by using shaped charges to shoot a molten steam of copper or something at multiple times the speed of sound
>>
>>77474303

>>77474307
The thing that annoys me most about modern technology is media portrayal. So often popular media like movies will portray military hardware as so impotent that people truly believe this shit isn't dead killy.
>>
>>77474335

>>
>>77474307
i wonder if boris could will himself to survive literally any physical attack if he was an egotistical megalomaniac didnt have his bullied past and insecurity about his hobbies to hold him down
>>
>>77474090

I don't think I do. Poppy is able to exert a humongous amount of force, in a much smaller surface area than an explosion does. If a surface can take a direct from Poppy without so much as slightly bending, it's pretty easy to assume that personal scale explosives are just not going to be enough to rupture it.
>>
>>77465772
I remember that part in Utena, now Poppy and Kit must kiss to get the magic sword, and the hot duded must drive their care very dangerously and very naked.
>>
>>77474382
The explosion isn't the dangerous part of an RPG. How do you think it pierces tank armor? Shaped charges propelling jets of molten metal. The explosion is just a side effect.

>>
>>77479476
There's also a good chance that the melee weaponry of Flora are enchanted to shit with combat spells which would otherwise be ludicrously expensive to apply to thousands of bullets that only get used once, and enchanting the gun itself wouldn't help because it isn't the actual thing physically hitting any type of shield technology going on.

Plus, ranged combat is probably the domain of spellcasters with fireballs and shit anyway

Is she related to Lando?
>>
>>77480581
Since we're talking MAGIC, couldn't you say an enchanted gun puts an effect on the bullets as it fires?
>>
>>77481040
This is mostly a game balance thing from tabletop RPGs - weapons are high quality things that can be enchanted, ammunition is disposable and having to enchant each individual bullet is time consuming and expensive as hell.

The mana on the weapon would drain out at top speed if you tried to get it to change the bullets individually - Accuracy is typically the ideal way to go. Given we're working with a fighting game system in Flora, though, it likely Just Doesnt Work that way.
>>
>>77481629

>>
>>77481860
Those small military doses probably get drained within a minute of enchantment gun combat though, plus you could probably get more damage out of the doses with pure magic artillery versus physical. In fact the only reason they probably keep guns around is because otherwise all your weaponry could be negated by a possum in plate armor.
