Well maybe if some people didn't make them popular, they wouldn't be used. You have only yourself to blame. It was "radical" shit in the 90's and now we have memes. And when the the next popular trend happens, the media is gonna use that too. This ain't nothing new

A+X.
It was a short series that came out after Avengers Vs X-Men.
Every issue, a different Avengers-related character would team up with an X-Men related one.
Other instances include SpOck teaming up with Magneto (the source of the "You know I was in the Holocaust, right?" panel), Captain America and Vampires Jubilee, Kid Loki and Mr. Sinister, and more.

Since it was basically an anthology comic, the writers were always different. This issue was written by the DrMcninja guy.

If DC hired me, I would write Fat Industrialist Lex Luthor as stealing 40 cakes from a bakery.

Either he lies about paying for them, he simply walks in and takes them all because can and its a power trip, but either way, I will give Fat Lex 40 goodamned cakes.

And when they call Superman, he doesn't fight Lex over the cakes. He just shows up as Lex polishes off the last on and looks with a simple look of utterly pained disappointment, like "This isn't evil, this is a cry for help." Then Lex chucks a pie tin at him or something and rolls his fat ass away

I think it's because some of us have lived through a time period were internet jokes were so obscure if you made them outside of the internet or your circle of internet savvy friends nobody would get the joke and you would just look weird. So a mentality developed to keep it online. I've the last decade or so it's bless enough into the mainstream that it isn't obscure inside jokes anymore.

I still kind of bristle when I hear a internet joke used at work or on TV, because I feel like nobody will get it and I feel empathy embarrassment for the person that said it. Except most people get it now and that's just a reaction from years ago that hasn't gone away yet.

While you're not wrong exactly I don't agree. By your logic when you ask how some one is doing and they say "can't complain, it wouldn't do any good." They're using a meme.

The term comes with the implication that it's source is internet humor in particular, not just any repeated humor.

I have a dog and people at my university call it my "doge" (pronounced like the word "dough" with a g at the end, apparently) at least once a week. It really makes me want to go Cho on all these faggots.

I love it when they manage to sneak stuff past the editors, like this Goatse reference

I hate to admit this, but I do kind of feel this way. It's like when your 60 year old dad calls you and asks if you've heard this song and starts singing lil wayne. It's not that I particularly like lil wayne and my dad singing his songs makes it now seem uncool to me, or brings someone into my "secret club" who I don't want to be there, it just seems strange to hear a liberal normie 60 year old white man say nigger so many times.

This. It's not enough to make a reference, it has to be in service of a joke or some kind of larger/more basic/intrinsic humor. That is why the venture brothers is god-teir and family guy sucks AIDS-infested cocks.

Somewhere in the multiverse is Earth-69, the Slashfic universe where everyone has lots of sex with everyone.

If you use them sparingly meme references are OK.

It's shitty writing to just dump memes all over your work though.

Wasn't the context of that scene based on the real 60's Spider-man episode where he hides from Electro?
>>
>>77440901
I thought that was Earth 34. Wait, are Slashfic Earth and Porn Earth the same or not?
>>
>>77441007
Yes, you got it, its based on the episode where he hides from Electro under a table, that's why he asks about Electro in this scene even though he wasn't in the Sinister Six attacking right outside. Then Gwen makes a reference to the masturbating Spider-Man meme
